Best looks from Galway Races Ladies Day as punters dress to impress at Ballybrit

From sharp, colourful suits to floaty summer dresses, race-goers were looking their impeccable best at the annual Galway Races Ladies Day on Thursday. Thousands of punters passed through the gates of the Ballybrit track on day four of this year's festival. Ladies Day at the Galway Races has always been one of the highlights of both the Irish sporting and fashion calendars, with the annual event playing host to a mix of local design talent, high street pieces and stunning designer outfits. One of the best things about the races is the diverse styles that can be spotted from the Millennium stand to the Mayor's Garden and this year was no exception. The Best Dressed award - and €10,000 prize - went to 28-year-old Megan Cunniss from Bohermore, Co Galway, who wowed the judges with her vintage black and white 1950's-era dress which was made in France and tailored in Galway. "I just can't believe it, I am ecstatic. I'm from Galway so this means so much to me," Megan said after her name was announced by MC Marietta Doran. Meanwhile, in the Best Hat category, Bride Butler from Thurles, Co Tipperary was awarded the €3,000 prize for a standout piece by Michelle Kearns. While the best-dressed finalists looked amazing, there was yet more major style moments to be seen across the race course.
