UK Begins Development of High-Altitude Surveillance Balloons

Israa Farhan The British Ministry of Defense has announced the development of high-altitude unmanned surveillance balloons designed to support national security and enhance military reconnaissance capabilities. According to an official statement published on the Ministry's website, the new program focuses on creating drone-guided balloons capable of conducting surveillance, monitoring, and enemy force detection missions as part of the government's broader defense transformation agenda. The balloons were tested earlier this year in South Dakota, United States. During the trials, the aircraft demonstrated an impressive range of over 2,000 nautical miles while flying at altitudes between 18,000 and over 24,000 meters. The Ministry confirmed that the tested models can carry payloads of up to three kilograms and remain operational for more than five consecutive days. This innovative project is being developed through a partnership between UK-based defence firms Volant Autonomy and Landguard Systems, with additional technical collaboration from the US company Aerostar. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language

Attack on oil tanker near Yemen inflicts limited damage

LONDON, May 18 (KUNA) -- An oil tanker was attacked off the Yemeni coast late on Friday, a British maritime security center said on Saturday. The Joint Maritime Security Center, an authority affiliated to the British Ministry of Defense, said via its website that the oil tanker was lightly damaged due to the impact of an aerial ordnance. The incident happened 76 nautical miles off the Yemeni port town of al-Hodaida in the Red Sea, it said, adding that the captain had affirmed that there were no casualties and that the vessel was pursuing its journey as scheduled. The authority renewed the warning to captains of ships that sail though the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean to be vigilant while crossing these waters. The Yemeni Houthi militias have repeatedly targeted ships sailing through the Red Sea and allied forces have disabled missiles and booby-trapped drones unleashed toward the ships. (end)

UK joins US air strikes against Houthis in Yemen

The UK has begun to support the US in attacking Yemen's Houthi militia. The British Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday its forces had conducted joint airstrikes against what it claimed was a Houthi-controlled military facility. The development came against the backdrop of Houthi-linked reports stating that another US attack hit a migrant detention center, resulting in dozens of civilian deaths. At least 68 African migrants were killed in the strike on the facility on Monday, the militia's Al Masirah TV Channel reported, adding that 47 people were injured. A US defense official said that the nation's military were aware of the claims about civilian casualties. US President Donald Trump launched a large-scale air and naval strike campaign against Yemen-based Houthi targets last month to protect shipping in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks. According to London, Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets and US warplanes struck a 'cluster of buildings' located about fifteen miles south of the capital, Sanaa, on Tuesday. The facility was reportedly used by the Houthis to manufacture drones for attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Houthis have been targeting vessels they associate with Israel as part of a strategy to pressure West Jerusalem over its military operations in Gaza. Israel launched its campaign following a deadly raid by the Palestinian militant group Hamas in October 2023. The rebel group controls western Yemen, including the capital and the strategic port of Hodeidah. In support of the Palestinians in Gaza, the Houthis have launched kamikaze drones and missiles at commercial ships and fired ballistic missiles at Israel. They have stated they will halt their attacks once Israel ends its campaign against Hamas. President Trump has instructed the Pentagon to intensify strikes in Yemen, warning that the Houthis will be 'completely annihilated' if they do not stop targeting shipping in the Red Sea.

Government of Change: British enemy must anticipate consequences of its aggression against Yemen

Sana'a (Saba) – The Government of Change and Construction affirmed that the British enemy must reckon with its predicament and anticipate the consequences of its aggression against the Republic of Yemen. The Government of Change and Construction said in a statement issued today, "With typical British impudence, the British Ministry of Defense announced the implementation of a joint military aggression with the American enemy against our country, south of Sana'a, in response, the Government of Change and Construction affirms that the British enemy must reckon with its predicament and anticipate the consequences of its aggression against the Republic of Yemen." The statement added, "While the government pledges to respond to this brutal and unlawful aggression, it affirms that it comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts of the American and British enemies to support the Israeli enemy by attempting to stop Yemen's support for Palestine, so that the Israeli enemy can isolate Gaza and continue its crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people there." It pointed out that this joint aggression once again proves that the United States and Britain are allies in the same aggression against Yemen and Palestine, stressing that Yemen's position will remain steadfast in supporting the Palestinian people in their battle for the promised conquest and holy jihad. The government emphasized that, whatever the challenges, Yemen will confront the evil trio of America, Britain, and Israel, and those who orbit around them, the people will confront the campaigns of fear-mongering, threats, and intimidation by continuing to embody their faith.
