Collier scores 26 points, Lynx use challenges in OT to top Dream, who rallied after weather delay
COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) — Napheesa Collier scored 26 points and the Minnesota Lynx successfully challenged two foul calls in the last minute of overtime to beat Atlanta 96-92 on Friday night in a game that saw the Dream rally after a weather-related delay in the second quarter. The Lynx were up 92-90 when challenges reversed foul calls on Atlanta drives with 54.8 and 20.5 seconds to go. Kayla McBride then made four free throws in the last 17.5 seconds to secure the win. Advertisement McBride scored 18 points for the Lynx (13-2) to surpass 5,000 for her career. Courtney Williams added 16 points and Bridget Carleton 14. Minnesota made 13 3-pointers and 17 of 18 free throws. Brionna Jones had 18 points, Allisha Gray scored 17 and Brittney Griner 16 for the balanced Dream (10-6). Rhyne Howard added 15 points, Jordan Canada had 14 and reserve Naz Hillmon 10. Atlanta had a season-high 52 points in the paint to 24 for Minnesota. After missing two games, Collier helped the Lynx get off to a strong start. Her basket — giving her 13 points — pushed the lead to 45-28 midway through the second quarter. But moments later the lights flickered off and on in the Gateway Center Arena, the result of severe thunderstorms outside. The game was delayed for eight minutes. When play resumed, the Dream were a different team, outscoring the Lynx 38-15, with Canada's back-to-back shots push the lead to 66-60 with 3:50 left in the third quarter. Advertisement The Lynx recovered to take a 69-68 lead after three quarters. The Dream led by seven in the fourth quarter. Collier's free throws tied the score at 86 with 21 seconds left in regulation and Atlanta didn't get a good look on the final shot. ___ AP WNBA:

Dream's Brittney Griner Makes Unexpected Personal Move
Dream's Brittney Griner Makes Unexpected Personal Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream have opened the 2025 WNBA season atop the Eastern Conference standings, sitting in second place with a 10-5 record. Advertisement While the Dream have found success this season, Griner has taken a step back in her first year with the team, allowing star teammates like Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard to lead the way. The 6-foot-9 center is averaging 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game through 13 games - career lows in her 11-year WNBA tenure. Even so, Griner appears content in her new role and continues to engage with fans, including Australian gold medalist skateboarder Arisa Trew. Atlanta Dream center Brittney GrinerDale Zanine-Imagn Images On Friday, the X Games' official Instagram account posted a video of Griner swapping jerseys with the skateboarder, a move that's more commonly seen between basketball players. Advertisement Griner even signed the jersey with a personal message for Trew. "Wow, this is so cool," Trew said as she received the signed Griner jersey. "Thank you so much, Brittney. This is so cool." Trew, from Cairns, Queensland, Australia, is only 15 years old and has already earned nine gold medals in international competition, including the 2024 Paris Olympics (1 gold medal), the World Championships in Rome (1) and three different X Games events (7). That total includes her most recent win at last weekend's X Games in Osaka. She also became the youngest-ever from her country to win an Olympic gold medal. Advertisement "Who said jersey swaps need to be in the same sport?" the X Games captioned its post. "Brittney Griner is a huge fan of @arisa_trew and sent her a signed jersey. So naturally, we made Arisa a #XGames jersey to send back 🏀🛹" Griner and the Dream look to avoid a two-game losing streak as they begin a four-game homestand with a matchup against Napheesa Collier and the WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx. How Wings center made bold statement vs. Brittney Griner, Dream
The post How Wings center made bold statement vs. Brittney Griner, Dream appeared first on ClutchPoints. ARLINGTON, TX — Something changed on Tuesday night. 6'1″ Myisha Hines-Allen started (primarily at center) through the Dallas Wings' first 15 games of the 2025 season. On Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream, however, head coach Chris Koclanes placed Li Yueru in the starting lineup at the center position. Yueru played well and Dallas emerged victorious with a 68-55 win. Advertisement Yueru was acquired by the Wings in a trade with the Seattle Storm in June. At 6'7″, Yueru was the logical candidate to start against Brittney Griner and the Dream. However, predicting how well she would play against a future Hall of Famer in Griner would have been difficult. Yueru, 26, turned in a 10-point, 15-rebound double-double. She added one assist and a steal. Meanwhile, Griner finished the game with only two points and six rebounds to go along with one block. Atlanta shoots a lot of three-pointers and Griner only had three field goal attempts, but Yueru still made things difficult on her in the post. Yueru said it was 'exciting' to play against Griner on Tuesday night. 'She's the best post player in the league,' Yueru added while speaking to reporters about Griner. Advertisement It is clear that the new Wings center is developing chemistry with her new teammates. Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers led the way on Tuesday, but Yueru's play was crucial in the game as well. 'She's just an amazing player… Obviously she hasn't been with us for a long time, but she's a really smart player and she's picking it up,' Ogunbowale said of Yueru. 'For her to get the start and come out with the double-double… Really started the energy of the lead. She was scoring, she was rebounding, she was setting great screens. So she's a really great player and I'm glad she's on our team.' Li Yueru may continue to start for Wings at center It is worth mentioning that both Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsoder — who are both centers — are currently playing in EuroBasket and are away from the Wings. They are expected to return in early July. Their returns will lead to difficult starting lineup decisions. Advertisement For now, Yueru is likely going to continue to start games. Her performance on Tuesday night was indeed a bold statement. 'I'm excited to play,' Yueru told reporters. 'I'm appreciative of my teammates and coach giving me a chance. I'm not the best one, so I know… I can do the best small things… (give) extra effort. I appreciate we can win tonight.' Although Yueru is not necessarily guaranteed to start moving forward, she certainly gave Koclanes something to seriously consider. 'She did not back down,' Koclanes said of Yueru playing against Griner. 'She just is incredibly smart and physical… Really good with her positioning. Really proud that she stepped up and answered that call.' Advertisement The Wings are looking to carry their momentum into Friday's game against the Indiana Fever. The contest will receive no shortage of hype as it will be played at the American Airlines Center in Dallas (the home of the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars). Following Friday's game, the Wings will play the second of a back-to-back in Arlington against the Washington Mystics. The Wings can make a statement of their own with a strong back-to-back effort. Fans can expect Li Yueru to continue to play a significant role in Dallas' success moving forward.
