State and local police quickly spotted the Mustang, triggering a pursuit that covered an estimated 30 miles westbound on Route 101 and then off the highway where police successfully deployed stop sticks to deflate the right front tire in Deerfield, according to the radio transmissions. At that point, police took a juvenile passenger into custody while the Ruiz ran into nearby woods, according to the transmissions. Advertisement State and local police launched an intensive search of the area, ordered a shelter-in-place alert with a two-mile radius, and deployed a police dog, three drones and the Massachusetts State Police helicopter. But the key sighting came from an area resident who spotted him in the woods, according to transmissions. He was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m., about two hours after the gunfire was first reported in Hampton Beach, records show. Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno said there will be an increased presence of officers in the Hampton beach area to ensure safety. 'Despite the actions of a few individuals who have chosen to disrupt the peace and security of the community, Hampton remains a safe location thanks to the strong public safety presence and community support,' Reno said in the statement. Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the department at 603-929-4444. John R. Ellement can be reached at

Off-duty officer stomped while helping apprehend chase suspect, channel 11 sources say
A late-night police chase sped across county lines from Westmoreland County to Allegheny County last week. Dispatch audio recordings from Broadcastify have State Police troopers in pursuit of a white Dodge Charger on Route 51 heading towards Elizabeth. While it's not yet clear what started the chase, Channel 11 learned it came to a crashing end near Elizabeth Forward High School. Neighbors said the suspect hit the concrete pillar at the end of a driveway, went through the yard before hitting the curb and attempting to run. Sources told Channel 11 an off-duty Elizabeth Township officer who lives nearby ran to help, tackling the suspect before the responding state troopers arrived. Sources said that at some point, when troopers got on scene, the off-duty officer was stomped, causing significant injuries to his face. Channel 11 was told the officer is not currently working while recovering at home. All state police troopers in Pennsylvania are required to wear body cameras. We asked the agency about the situation, how the off-duty officer was injured and if there is an internal investigation. 'We can neither comment on, nor confirm the existence of, any ongoing investigations, internal or otherwise,' said Myles Snyder, PSP Communications Director. Channel 11 did knock on the off-duty officer's door, his family said they can't comment, as did the Elizabeth Township Police Chief. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts.
