Biggest Steelers takeaways from Day 4 of training camp

Day 4 of Steelers training camp has come on and gone — and there was much to digest after practices on Sunday. From health concerns to new faces proving themselves in Latrobe, here are the biggest takeaways from Day 4 in camp. Injuries are beginning to pile up Both OT Broderick Jones and WR Montana Lemonious-Craig suffered soft-tissue injuries on Sunday and are considered day-to-day — while FB DJ Thomas-Jones suffered a "more significant" leg injury and was carted off the field. RB Cordarrelle Patterson also missed his fourth straight practice at camp. Yahya Black has arrived Drafted with the 164th pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Black made his presence felt on Sunday — swatting down two passes during team drills and turning in an overall impressive Day 4 performance. Brandin Echols stands tall CB Brandin Echols hasn't taken the offseason disrespect lying down — making a strong case that he belongs in this stacked Steelers secondary. From his interception on Mason Rudolph to Mike Tomlin's comments on his fiery personality, Echols was the talk of camp on Sunday. Will Howard continues to outperform Mason Rudolph The Steelers' sixth-round rookie QB continued to impress on Sunday — even outperforming Mason Rudolph, who overthrew RB Kaleb Johnson on a screen and was intercepted by Echols during seven shots. While the narrative could change next week when pads come on, Howard deserves all the attention he's gotten thus far in Latrobe. Steelers' Broderick Jones isn't ready for LT yet: 'I think I need a couple more weeks'

Broderick Jones needs a few more weeks until he's ready to start at LT — and he'll be the first to admit it. After practice at mandatory minicamp, Jones was asked by reporters to share how the offseason practices have been going — and here was his response (courtesy of Steelers Live): Advertisement "I think it went as good as it could go," Jones said. "You know, with everything going on — with me moving back to [LT] from [RT]. I still got a couple more weeks to hone in on my skills and continue to develop on the left side — and come in ready for [training camp]." A few questions later, Jones was asked if he'd be ready to start games at LT tomorrow — and he was brutally honest about his current abilities: "If I'm being honest, I think I probably do need a couple more weeks," Jones said. "Not saying I'd be bad, but just for me. Just to feel like I'm in the mindset to play an actual game — versus somebody else other than going against Alex Highsmith or Nick [Herbig]." The Steelers are hopeful that switching Jones back to his natural position at left tackle will help get the 2023 first-rounder back on track — as he gave up the second-most sacks in the NFL last season from right tackle. Steelers OT Broderick Jones calls switch from Russell Wilson to Aaron Rodgers 'surreal'

The feeling of playing behind two future Hall of Fame QBs isn't lost on Steelers OT Broderick Jones. At mandatory minicamp, Jones was asked to share his thoughts on playing with Russell Wilson last season, only to now be blocking for Rodgers the following year — and this was his response (courtesy of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette): Advertisement "Man, I was just thinking about that last night," Jones said. "It's like, dang, we really got Aaron Rodgers now. I never thought I'd be playing for those two quarterbacks, right? I watched them growing up — so it's just like, playing with them right now is surreal. Going from [Wilson] last year to now [Rodgers] is just a crazy lineup to me." Aside from protecting Rodgers' blindside, Jones faces major expectations this season, as the Steelers' 2023 first-rounder hasn't quite lived up to his draft status just yet — but a switch back to left tackle could be the fuel for a breakout 2025 campaign. Steelers Offensive Lineman Announces Position Change

Steelers Offensive Lineman Announces Position Change originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers lost starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. to the Tennessee Titans in free agency. Now there will be a bit of shuffling along the offensive line to make up for it. Advertisement Last year's starting right tackle, Broderick Jones, has announced that the team is moving him to the other side to replace Moore. 'I think it went as good as it could go,' Jones said, via Steelers Now. 'You know, with everything going on — with me moving back to [LT] from [RT]. I still got a couple more weeks to hone in on my skills and continue to develop on the left side — and come in ready for [training camp]. 'If I'm being honest, I think I probably do need a couple more weeks. Not saying I'd be bad, but just for me. Jones is a former No. 14 overall pick by the Steelers in the 2023 NFL Draft. Advertisement The former Georgia Bulldog became the starting right tackle in Week 9 of that same season. Pro Football Focus says Jones allowed 30 pressures and five sacks that season. Last year, PFF noted Joness gave up 45 pressures and 11 sacks after taking over for Troy Fautanu after a season-ending knee injury. Jones admitted that he's had to make an adjustment in his head now that he's changing sides. 'It's just flipping the plays in my head. Because some of our plays, they're flip-flopped backwards,' Jones said, via PennLive's Nick Farabaugh. 'So you hear them and they might be going one way, but it may be called the other way. So just staying locked in with the plays and just making sure you know them. And you know the plays, you can play at 110%.'
