‘Unconstitutional': Henry VIII clause would allow the executive to ‘overrule' legislation
Former speaker of the House Bronwyn Bishop says she is critical of the Henry VIII clause. 'I am so critical and so angry about this, and I say it as a lawyer, as a former parliamentarian, and I say it as an Australian,' Ms Bishop told Sky News host Paul Murray. 'We need to know precisely what the tax laws are. 'This is called a Henry VIII clause because the parliament allowed Henry VIII in 1531 to, in fact, make decrees that overruled acts of parliament. 'It allows the executive … to actually change the legislation and overrule it.'

Albanese remains ‘in the thralls' of China as country edges away from US
Former Liberal titan Bronwyn Bishop discusses the increasing ties between China and Australia, suggesting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is "in the thralls" of the Chinese government. "I think Albanese is in the thrall of China, and by that I mean there is undue influence, some would say control," Ms Bishop told Sky News host Paul Murray. "China seems to be mapping where all the cables are ... we are edging away from the United States and pivoting towards China. "Is Australia the next Taiwan, and it's richer than Taiwan, and it's poorly defended."
