With my losing streak this month—losing to Wordle Bot, that is—I decided to play it safe with my opening guess and chose CRATE, similar to Wordle Bot's favorite opener, CRANE. This left me with just 40 words. I wanted to use something that knocked out two more vowels, and TORUS came to mind for whatever reason. It wasn't the Wordle, but it did slash out all the remaining possible solutions, leaving me with just one: TURBO for the win! Today's Wordle Bot I get 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating the Bot. The Bot gets 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. This brings our April totals to: Erik: 0 points Wordle Bot: 4 points I'm narrowing the gap! If I get a good 2XP Friday score I could tie this up possibly. If I get a bad score on Friday, all these gains are for naught. We shall see . . . . The word "turbo" comes from Latin turbo, meaning "whirlwind" or "spinning top." The Latin root relates to rapid spinning or rotation. In modern usage, "turbo" was adopted in the early 20th century as a shorthand for "turbine" (especially in "turbocharger") due to its high-speed spinning mechanism. It has since evolved into a general term implying speed or enhanced performance. Let me know how you fared with your Wordle today on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. PLATE was a good opener today, getting me three yellow boxes and leaving just 48 possible solutions. GREAT juggled yellow into green and left me with only three words. Unfortunately, I picked CHEAT next and that was not the Wordle. I had to go one more round for WHEAT. Sigh. This connection likely refers to the pale color of wheat flour. The root traces back to the Proto-Germanic *hwaitjaz (also meaning 'white') and ultimately to the Proto-Indo-European root *kʷeit-, meaning "to shine" or "white." So, the word "wheat" essentially evolved from terms meaning "white grain." Let me know how you fared with your Wordle today on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
