Man Utd vs Leeds kick-off DELAYED as fans forced to wait to see new No10 Matheus Cunha on debut
MANCHESTER UNITED'S warm-up friendly against Leeds has been DELAYED due to heavy traffic around the stadium. The Red Devils kick-off their pre-season campaign in Sweden in what could be a feisty encounter with old foes Leeds. 2 2 United confirmed at the last minute that the game would be pushed back by 10 minutes on Saturday afternoon. It will now begin at 14:10 BST, with live coverage on MUTV and SunSport blogging the game. The new Premier League campaign is less than a month away with preparations now fully underway for both sides. It will mark the first time United fans get to see new signing Matheus Cunha in action. The Brazilian striker has been handed his first start, as has fellow fresh face Diego Leon, 18, at left-back. Cunha starts alongside Bruno Fernandes in the No 10 positions and behind teenager Chido Obi, who leads the line. United's woeful 2024-25 campaign saw them finish 15th in the Prem and without a trophy after Europa League final heartbreak against Tottenham. Amorim has been desperate to lock his squad down on the training pitch and will hope pre-season provides the opportunity to further leave his print on the team. Who's in and who's out: Man Utd's surprising 29-man squad for Leeds clash revealed
LONDON, July 19 — Manchester United have left out five senior players from their pre-season squad to face Leeds United in Stockholm this Saturday. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia will remain at Carrington as the club continues efforts to offload them, BBC reported. New signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon have been included in the 29-man squad, with Cunha expected to make his debut following his £62.5 million (RM355 million) move from Wolves. Injured trio Joshua Zirkzee, Andre Onana and Lisandro Martinez have not travelled but all other fit senior players are in Sweden. Teenage defender Harry Amass has been excluded from the trip as he is set for a loan move to gain first-team experience. Several academy prospects have joined the squad, including Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricson and Jack Fletcher, son of former club captain Darren Fletcher. Godwill Kukonki, Sekou Kobe, Ethan Williams, Reece Munro and Bendito Mantato are also part of Ruben Amorim's travelling party. United are due to fly to the United States on Tuesday, and Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo may join them after a £65 million bid was accepted and a medical scheduled. The PA news agency understands the Bundesliga champions' offer of 67.5million euros (£58.6m) was immediately dismissed, in keeping with the club's stance which saw them rebut an approach from Barcelona earlier in the summer. Diaz is in the last two years of his contract and, while talks have not progressed over a new deal, privately Liverpool insist he remains an important player and interested clubs are being told that. There is also a long-standing interest from the Saudi Pro League in the 28-year-old Colombia international. Al-Hilal's failed 100m euros (£87m) bid for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, who is two years older, is viewed by some as a benchmark valuation for an elite attacker in the domestic and global market, but regardless there remains no appetite to sell. Only a few weeks ago Diaz hinted at uncertainty over his future by claiming his representatives were openly discussing his options. 'We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening,' he said last month. 'We're trying to arrange what's best for us.'
