1 year later, local family still seeks justice for son beaten to death
BRUNSWICK HILLS, Ohio (WJW) – July 13, 2024, is a date that Christopher and Rochelle Olson will never forget. It's the day their son Christion, 18, was found badly beaten. He was suffering from internal injuries and later died at a hospital. Police said he was fatally assaulted. It's just as bad today as it was a year ago today. It's actually even worse because we re-live it, almost like a Groundhog Day,' Christopher Sr. said. 'It's hard to go through daily life, just with the circumstances and missing him so much. It's very hard to just go on each day,' Rochelle said. Sunday, they held a Walk For Justice where they walked from the Brunswick Hills Police Department to Topaz Lane, less than half a mile away, where Christion was found. They've done this event several times now. The Olsons vow to keep doing it until they get justice for their son. Baby found abandoned outside Cleveland residence identified 'We're never going to stop,' Christopher Sr. said. '[We're] Never going to give up, never stop. We're going to keep raising awareness and make sure someone is held accountable. Someone needs to be held accountable for taking our son's life,' Rochelle said. The Olsons told Fox 8 that the last time they heard from police that tips weren't coming in to Medina County Crime Stoppers. Brunswick Hills Police Chief Tim Sopkovich previously told Fox 8 in March that they want justice for Christion, but need witnesses with information that can help them work toward an arrest to come forward. The Olsons believe Christion deserves justice. They shared that they're extremely thankful to all of the family, friends, and supporters who've stuck with them over the last year as they've fought to keep Christion's name out there. Sanders, a fifth round NFL Draft pick, was reportedly pulled over by police in Ohio on Tuesday morning. Shortly after midnight, Sanders was reportedly pulled over for allegedly driving 101 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. He was reportedly given a citation and could appear in court, if he chooses to fight the ticket. Advertisement However, this was not the only time that Sanders has been pulled over by police. ESPN reported on Thursday, June 19 that Sanders has actually been pulled over twice for speeding. He was pulled over for speeding 91 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. From the report: According to a Medina [Ohio] Municipal Court record that was filed June 6, Sanders was pulled over by the Ohio State Patrol earlier this month. In that alleged violation, which took place June 5 in Brunswick Hills, Ohio, The Ohio State Patrol told WKBN-TV that Sanders was stopped for driving 91 mph in a 65-mph zone. According to the record, Sanders failed to appear for an arraignment for that citation on Monday and faces $269 in fines and court costs. He was then stopped by an officer for the Strongsville (Ohio) Police Department at 12:24 a.m. Tuesday morning for driving 41 mph over the posted 60 mph speed limit in a black Dodge TRX truck. The Browns are standing by Sanders, for now. Shedeur Sanders was forced to explain who he is to an Ohio cop who recently pulled over the NFL rookie for speeding. The 23-year-old is the son of ex-NFL and MLB star Deion Sanders. The quarterback was recently selected by the Cleveland Browns following a humiliating slide to the fifth round of the NFL draft. Since then, Sanders has continued to make headlines for the wrong reasons. Twice this month the quarterback has been pulled over for speeding. One of the incidents saw Sanders stopped for allegedly going 91mph in a 65mph zone in Medina County, Ohio. It came on June 5, with the rookie pulled over in the Cleveland suburb of Brunswick Hills by the Ohio State Patrol. In new footage, obtained by TMZ, the 23-year-old is seen handing over an out-of-state ID to a trooper, who asks: 'What's with the Mississippi ID?' Sanders then explains that he used to play college football in Jackson. He was the quarterback at Jackson State before moving to Colorado with his father. 'He doesn't know who you are,' the other cop told the 23-year-old before his partner joined the dots. 'Oh. Sanders. Gotcha,' he said. Sanders' fame did not save him from punishment, however. He faces $269 in fines and court costs over the incident but failed to show in court for his arraignment, according to The arraignment was scheduled for June 16 and just one day later he was pulled over again. Local news station Fox9 claims Sanders, who was infamously selected 144th overall at this year's NFL Draft despite initially being projected as a first-round pick, was pulled over by an officer at around 12:24 am in the Cleveland suburb of Strongsville on Tuesday, June 17.
