NASCAR Power Rankings: Bubba Wallace Enters Rankings With Brickyard Win
Bubba Wallace enters these power rankings thanks to his big victory at Indianapolis. His team owner remains atop this list thanks to a third-place finish. But Wallace teammate Tyler Reddick? He drops out after another disappointing finish, a 29th-place run at Indy. He has just four top 10s in his last 14 starts. Here's a look at where drivers stand entering this weekend's race at Iowa Speedway as four races remain in the regular season: Dropped out: Tyler Reddick (Last Week: 9), Ty Gibbs (Last Week: 10) On the verge: Chris Buescher, Kyle Busch, Ty Gibbs,; Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick 10. Bubba Wallace (Last Week: Not Ranked) A win in a major race lifts Wallace into these rankings. The 23XI Racing driver has four top 10s in the last nine races, including a pair of top-five finishes. 9. Ryan Preece (Last Week: Not Ranked) Preece is still looking for his first Cup win but had a strong finish in fourth at the Brickyard. The RFK Racing driver has six top 10s in the last 11 races. 8. William Byron (Last Week: 5) Running out of fuel late cost Byron a good finish, as he placed 16th after running in the top five for much of the day. The Hendrick driver sits four points behind teammate Chase Elliott for the top spot in the Cup standings. 7. Alex Bowman (Last Week: 7) Bowman placed ninth at the Brickyard for his 12th top-10 finish of the season. Only Hendrick teammate Kyle Larson has more, with 14. 6. Christopher Bell (Last Week: 6) Bell also has 12 top 10s (including three victories) this year, as he wound up eighth at the Brickyard. But it seems that the Joe Gibbs Racing driver is driving a little over the edge at inopportune times. 5. Chase Briscoe (Last Week: 3) Briscoe won the pole at Indy and led 34 laps but placed 18th. Still, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver showed speed, and he sits eighth in the standings. 4. Chase Elliott (Last Week: 2) Elliott was 13th at the Brickyard but retained his series points lead by four points over Hendrick teammate William Byron. He qualified 30th at a track that is hard to pass, and he has consistently said he needs to qualify better to consistently finish strong. 3. Ryan Blaney (Last Week: 8) Blaney didn't have the most speed but posted a workmanlike seventh-place finish at the Brickyard. He was the only Penske driver in the top 10. 2. Kyle Larson (Last Week: 4) Larson finished second at the Brickyard for his second consecutive top-five finish and his 11th top-five finish of what has been a feast-or-famine season for the Hendrick driver. 1. Denny Hamlin (Last Week: 1) Hamlin followed up his win at Dover with a third-place finish at the Brickyard, despite a crash in qualifying that resulted in him starting at the rear of the field in a backup car. Plus, he recently signed a two-year contract extension with Joe Gibbs Racing. Things on the track are going relatively well. Bob Pockrass covers NASCAR and INDYCAR for FOX Sports. NASCAR results: Full finishing order of Brickyard 400 race at Indianapolis
For the second straight week, the NASCAR Cup Series race went to double overtime. Last week, leader Denny Hamlin survived both restarts on old tires and claimed the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Dover. This time, Bubba Wallace maintained the top spot and put himself in the playoffs on minimal fuel at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota outdueled runner-up Kyle Larson for the Brickyard 400 win, his third career victory. He also booked his first postseason trip since 2023 and second ever. Wallace grabbed the lead with 17 laps to go in regulation and still fronted the pack when rain arrived in Turn 1 with six to go. The red flag flew with four remaining. Denny Hamlin rounded out the top three. Here is the full finishing order. NASCAR takeaways: Bubba Wallace can forget about playoff cutline after Indianapolis win
Bubba Wallace doesn't have to worry about the bubble now. With his Brickyard 400 win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 27, Wallace entered himself into the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series playoff field. It was his third career victory and first at a crown-jewel event. And it sends him and his No. 23 Toyota of 23XI Racing to the postseason for the second time. 'It's been getting old running on the cutline,' said Wallace, who arrived in Indianapolis in the 16th and final playoff position, 16 points into the positive. He led 30 of the 168 laps, capturing the front spot with 17 laps to go in regulation. He held onto it through a late rain stoppage and two overtimes. Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Preece and Brad Keselowski followed Wallace to the stripe, filling out the top five. Here are three takeaways from Sunday's race: 1. Bubba Wallace makes NASCAR playoffs with Brickyard 400 win The victory was Wallace's first regular-season win ever. His first two triumphs — in October 2021 and September 2022 — occurred during the playoffs. His Indy performance snapped a 100-race winless streak since the 2022 Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas. The 31-year-old took the checkered flag by 0.22 seconds. While leading after the short rain delay, Wallace elected not to pit for gas before either of the overtime restarts. His team wasn't sure he had enough fuel to hang on and outduel Larson. But he didn't want to surrender the lead, either. 'Unbelievable,' Wallace said. 'To win here at the Brickyard, knowing how big this race is, knowing all the noise that's going on in the background, to set that aside is a testament to the people here on this 23 team.' Wallace last made the playoffs in 2023. 2. Ty Gibbs earns $1 million prize for first NASCAR In-Season Challenge The championship battle of the inaugural in-season tournament wasn't as dramatic as the rest of the Brickyard 400. Ty Gibbs, the sixth seed, beat Ty Dillon, the 32nd seed, to claim the $1 million reward. Though Gibbs' 21st-place finish was his worst of the five-race challenge, he cruised past Dillon, who ranked 28th Sunday. Dillon suffered significant damage during a Stage 2 restart and never recovered. He finished three laps down. In his No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, Gibbs ousted Justin Haley, AJ Allmendinger, Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick over the last month to reach the finals. 3. Next race on NASCAR schedule: Is it Heaven? No, it's Iowa After hopscotching from one coast to another, NASCAR spends yet another weekend in America's Heartland. Race 23 on the Cup Series schedule will be Year 2 of Cup racing at Iowa Speedway, with the Iowa Corn 350 (corn, of course!) set for next Sunday as NBC takes over from TNT and keeps its cameras focused through season's end. The green flag will fly shortly after 3:30 p.m. The Xfinity Series will join the Cup teams on the oval that measures seven-eighths of a mile. Before that, the calendar turns to August and we officially have just a month of Sundays (and a pair of Saturdays) left in the 26-race regular season. Playoff berths are on the line. Jockeying for points picks up the pace, as does dreams of a victory and the playoff entry that comes with it. — Ken Willis contributed to this story This article originally appeared on The Daytona Beach News-Journal: NASCAR results today: Bubba Wallace is Brickyard 400 race winner

NASCAR Power Rankings: Bubba Wallace joins top 10 drivers list. Is there change at top?
A lot happened over the Brickyard 400 weekend at Indianapolis. Bubba Wallace snapped a long winless streak and simultaneously clinched a 2025 playoff berth. Ty Gibbs won a million bucks by capturing NASCAR's first in-season bracket challenge. Ironically, he won it with his worst finish (21st) of the five-week tournament. And Denny Hamlin finally won at Indy. As a team owner, not a driver. But as a driver, he finished third Sunday, in a backup car, after crashing heavily during Saturday's qualifying. That's pretty good when you consider he started dead last in the field and was driving the second-best car his team brought to the Brickyard. It's certainly enough to keep him atop our power rankings. Especially when you consider no one else appears ready to make a serious move to overtake him. 1. Denny Hamlin What a weekend at Indy. Hit a wall one day, kiss a brick the next. 2. Chase Elliott Finished third at inaugural Iowa race last year. 3. Alex Bowman Continues to keep leads within sniffing distance, but hasn't pounced in while. 4. Ryan Blaney Only Cup winner in Iowa Speedway history. 5. Kyle Larson Made Bubba work for that Indy win. When in doubt, blame "dirty air." 6. Chase Briscoe Mr. Saturday will tell you, two Saturday night races will end the regular season in late August. 7. Christopher Bell Checked out long ago, but it's near time to check back in. 8. Chris Buescher This guy is pretty good, and he didn't lead a lap in all of July. Bring on August! 9. Bubba Wallace Pops the playoff bubble, ends 100-race skid, and more importantly returns to our top 10! 10. Ty Gibbs Highest-paying 21st-place finish in NASCAR history.
