LeBron James Calls Bubba Watson 'Ridiculous' But Not For Reason You Think

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. LeBron James is one of the latest to join the long list of stars from other sports who are passionate about golf. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has recently been showing off his swing, receiving no shortage of favorable reviews. Everything seems to indicate that James is not only hitting the links from time to time, but is also following professional golf. Apparently, last weekend he was watching LIV Golf UK, taking into account his reaction to his friend Bubba Watson's performance. The two-time Masters champion finished second at JCB Golf and Country Club, the best result of his LIV Golf career. Enough for "King James" to dedicate a post to the event on his Instagram stories. "You're ridiculous my friend!!" James posted. Bubba Watson's two eagles after two driver off the deck both times left LeBron James impressed. "You're ridiculous my friend," James wrote. — Kit Espina (@KeithEspino22) July 28, 2025 However, it seems that what really motivated James' congratulations were the two spectacular eagles made by Watson on the par-5 10th and 13th holes of the final round. In both cases, the Range Goats GC captain hit driver off the deck on his second shot and ended up holing the putt for a three. "It's not something I practice," Watson said about driving off the deck, according to the transcript of his post-third round press conference. "You don't practice it, right? I just do it. We had 300 plus to the hole on 10, 280 something to the front I think. So wasn't even -- I was just trying to get it over there where I could chip down to the bowl, right?" "I was like, man, that might have hit the downslope, and about that time, 30, 40 seconds later everybody starts cheering and I was like, must have hit the downslope." "Then to get it in the bowl is just I guess luck I'll say it. Then driver off the deck on 13 was a different shot. Like I was trying to fit that in there, but I don't go to the range and practice them. I never practice those until we're playing practice rounds and I need that shot or if I'm playing in a tournament." Watson added six birdies and four bogeys to his final-round card for a 65. He had carded 66 and 68 in the previous two rounds. The 46-year-old has seen a resurgence in his LIV Golf career this season, with three top-10 finishes. In his previous three seasons, he had only achieved one top-10 finish, at the 2023 Tulsa event (10th). More Golf: LIV Golf Doubles Down, Reportedly To Award Record-Breaking Purses In 2026

Niemann lands fifth LIV Golf title of season in UK

LIV Golf UK final leaderboard -17 J Niemann (Chi); -14 B Watson (US); -13 C Surratt (US); -11 Talor Gooch (US) Selected others: -10 J Rahm (Spa); -7 P Casey (Eng), T McKibbin (NI); -5 T Hatton (Eng); -3 R Bland (Eng) Full leaderboard Chile's Joaquin Niemann won the UK leg of the LIV Golf tour for his fifth title of the season. It came after the 26-year-old parted ways with his coach and caddie after missing the cut at the Open earlier this month. Niemann started the final round with a six-shot lead at the JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester. And a steady round of 68, including five birdies and a bogey, left his rivals with a gap that proved too big to close. Nearest challenger Bubba Watson did make a bold effort as his six-under 65 - featuring a run of four birdies and two eagles on the back nine - threatened to make things interesting. Niemann admitted feeling some pressure before he settled to finish three shots clear on 17 under. "I felt like today I was pretty calm, pretty chill, until Bubba started playing golf," he said. "He made it tough for me. I was actually feeling the pressure on 13, 14, but, yeah, just stay in the present. Yeah, was able to hit a great shot on 15. After that, [it] put me back into my place." American Watson's 14 under was the two-time major winner's best LIV Golf finish. Niemann's success in Staffordshire followed ones in Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City and Virginia this season as he became the first player to register five wins in a season on the LIV tour. Jon Rahm's Legion XIII won the team event as he, Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin and Caleb Surratt finished with a combined score of 35 under.

LIV Golf UK: Joaquin Niemann Wins Solo Title, Legion XIII Finishes as Top Team

ROCESTER, England – Joaquin Niemann continued his stellar season with a commanding wire-to-wire victory at LIV Golf UK by JCB Golf & Country Club, marking his fifth win of the 2025 season and seventh LIV Golf win overall — both LIV Golf records. The Chilean posted rounds of 65-63-68, finishing at 17-under, three shots ahead of his closest challenger. The triumph followed his decision to part ways with his coach and caddie after missing the cut at The Open Championship, a change he seamlessly overcame. On the team side, Legion XIII surged to a team victory for the second consecutive week and the fifth time this season. Niemann's dominance at JCB was a masterclass, excelling in all major statistical categories. He was exceptional from tee to green and among the week's top putters. The Torque GC captain's relentless performance in LIV Golf victories remains nothing short of jaw-dropping. It felt as though Niemann would not be threatened all day, but Bubba Watson made a strong charge on the back nine. The RangeGoats GC captain was scorching hot, going birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie on holes 9-14. The remarkable run was vintage Watson, and the 44-year-old cut the deficit to two shots with four holes to play. A birdie for Niemann on the 15th hole would stretch the lead back to three, but Watson made things interesting for a short time. He finished the week at 14-under par, good for solo second place and his best-ever LIV Golf finish. Caleb Surratt, 21, continued his rapid ascension as one of the league's brightest young players. He led the way for Legion XIII's come-from-behind team victory on Sunday when he recorded rounds of 67-68-65 to finish at 13-under and in third place, the best LIV Golf finish of his career. In fourth place was Talor Gooch of Smash GC, who shot a 5-under 66 to finish at 11-under and continue his strong form after winning his last start at LIV Golf Andalucia. On the team leaderboard, Legion XIII's victory was claimed by seven shots. The win marks their fourth of the season and eighth in the last two years. The champagne shower extends their stranglehold on the No. 1 seed in the standings as the Team Championship in Michigan inches closer. Surratt led the charge, but it was the consistency of the team, top-to-bottom, that ensured another victory. Jon Rahm charged on Sunday, shooting a 6-under 65 to finish tied for fifth. Tom McKibbin (T11) and Tyrrell Hatton (T21) both played solidly to contribute to the win. Despite a strong effort from Torque GC as they pursued their first team victory since 2023, they weren't able to overcome a tough round for Carlos Ortiz, who shot a 2-over 73. Sebastian Munoz shot a 2-under 69 and Mito Pereira shot an even par 70, which simply wasn't enough to hold off the hard-charging Legion XIII. JCB was easier in Round 3 than in the first two rounds, playing to an average of –1.87. Next up is LIV Golf Chicago at Bolingbrook Golf Club from Aug. 8-10. LIV Golf's new scoring format this season now involves all four scores now counting in every round in the team competition. Here are the scores and final results after Sunday's Round 3 at LIV Golf UK. This piece is courtesy of Mike McAllister in partnership with LIV Golf. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
