KFC offering free buckets of chicken as part of a 'comeback' plan

Kentucky Fried Chicken announced the fast foot chain is giving away free buckets of chicken − but there is a catch. The restaurant said its plan "Kentucky Fried Comeback" will put KFC "back on top" as America's No. 1 chicken chain. Fried chicken, whether on a bun or in a wrap, has been heating up the competition among fast-food joints. Last week, McDonald's reintroduced its Snack Wrap, sparking a friendly war on tortilla-wrapped chicken. KFC's fried chicken, made with the Colonel's "legendary blend of 11 herbs and spices" is what put the company on the map. So following strides in operations to improve the brand's taste and customer satisfaction scores, KFC said its kitchens are inviting customers back to taste the difference −"crispy, hot, and unmistakably original," the restaurant said in a Monday, July 14 news release. 'We're well aware of the latest fried chicken rankings and I'm fired up to launch a bold Kentucky Fried Comeback and remind America exactly who we are," said KFC United States President Catherine Tan-Gillespi in a news release. "If people can give their ex a million second chances, I hope our fans can give us one... Come back and give us a shot −your first bucket's on us.' Here's how to get a free bucket of KFC chicken. How to get a free KFC bucket of chicken To get a free Kentucky Fried Chicken buckets offered at the fast food chain, fans must go online and first spend $15 bucks. The "Free Bucket On Us' deal is a digital offer, available on and the KFC app at select stores through the KFC Rewards account with $15+ online purchase (before taxes and other fees). The offer must be redeemed prior to checkout, KFC said. After customers try the chicken, the company is asking for feedback through a form on its website. The offer is available while supplies last, according to KFC and customers responsible for taxes and fees. The deal cannot be combined with other offers. Hero crane driver who rescued man from burning building in Reading granted bucket list wish

Glen Edwards talked to ITV News Meridian's Wesley Smith about his heroic rescue and his bucket list wish The crane operator who rescued a worker from a burning tower block at Reading's Station Hill has been granted his bucket list of wishes thanks to a Berkshire charity. No-one who saw the Station Hill fire in November 2023 will ever forget the sight as smoke and flames over the centre of Reading. It was crane driver, Glen Edwards, who saved the day, putting his own life at risk in a daring mission to rescue a trapped worker from the top of the building, surrounded by flames. Glen Edwards said: "The smoke was absolutely intense, I could hardly see him, well, I couldn't see him. I knew he was there, he was standing on the edge of the building. "By the time I got the cradle on he had about two metres of area he was standing on that wasn't alight. The adrenalin was out the roof. "He's got two girls, eight and 13 they were at the time, and I got a ver heartfelt letter that would bring a tear to your eye." Glen, who lives near Ascot, didn't realise at the time he had cancer of the tongue. Although it was treated successfully, the cancer has since returned. "The cancer has spread unfortunately to five places in my spine." At an awards ceremony in Reading, Glen and his wife met Gini Hackett, from Burghfield, who set up the charity, Bucket List Wishes in memory of her mother. She heard Glen had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and gladly took on the role fairy godmother. Gini said: "I found it amazing to do this wish for him. He's really humble, what he did was incredible. He is a real hero to us so we absolutely had to do something for him." But 66-year-old Glen is a modest man and didn't ask for an exotic holiday or lavish cruise. He needed to move home and wanted some new flooring and a in came new flooring, kitchen equipment, generous vouchers for bedding and another big surprise, a fishing trip to Swanage. Glen said: "This is unbelievable what's happened to me, quite emotional really."Whatever the future may hold for Glen, thanks to Gini, he can rest assured he's left his family well cared for and forever proud of their true hero.

Bucket Game on Black Friday creates doubleheader for Purdue basketball, football fans

The first Friday edition of the Old Oaken Bucket game in 30 years will create a doubleheader for Purdue sports fans. Purdue men's basketball will serve as the lead-in to the Old Oaken Bucket game on so-called Black Friday, Nov. 28. The Boilermakers have not finalized what is expected to be an early afternoon tipoff time for their nonconference game against Eastern Illinois at Mackey Arena. Purdue and IU will play for the Bucket at 7:30 p.m. at Ross-Ade Stadium. Purdue confirmed the Friday football kickoff will not necessitate moving the basketball game. The university holds Thanksgiving break from Nov. 26-29, so no classes will be in session. Per a Purdue athletics spokesperson, the Big Ten and NBC proposed moving the Bucket Game to the Friday primetime spot and away from the crowded Saturday slate of rivalry games. Athletic director Mike Bobinski presented the proposal to coach Barry Odom, who signed off. The spokesperson said scheduling of the Bucket Game will be addressed annually, as opposed to making this a permanent move. Big Ten rivals Iowa and Nebraska, for instance, always play their rivalry weekend game on Black Friday. IndyStar understands Indiana did not object to playing the Bucket Game on that Friday. This is not the first occurrence of a basketball-football doubleheader — or even the first to coincide with the Bucket Game. On Nov. 22, 2008, the Boilermakers beat Indiana 62-10 with a noon kickoff in Joe Tiller's final game. The basketball team defeated Coppin State 66-46 that night. Purdue men's basketball played a home exhibition game against Indiana State on Oct. 28, 2017. That night, the Boilermakers lost to Nebraska 25-24 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Ross-Ade. IndyStar IU insider Zach Osterman contributed to this story.
