NFL analyst proposes trade sending Falcons TE Kyle Pitts to AFC contender
Bleacher Report proposes Falcons trade Kyle Pitts for All-Pro defensive tackle in three-team deal The Atlanta Falcons made a few necessary changes to their defense, but it may take some time for the new pieces to come together. Veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett is in Chicago after spending the first decade of his career in Atlanta. While the Falcons made a few modest signings in free agency, Jarrett is still a big loss for this defensive line. However, Bleacher Report proposed a solution in a hypothetical trade involving the Indianapolis Colts and the Cincinnati Bengals. The proposed three-team deal would see the Falcons send tight end Kyle Pitts to the Bengals while acquiring All-Pro defensive lineman DeForest Buckner from the Colts. Indianapolis would get Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson in return. "Indianapolis can ship Buckner to the Atlanta Falcons, who have looked to drastically reset their defensive front this offseason," wrote Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski. "The nine-year veteran can serve as the anchor to a group that will now feature first-rounders Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. flying off the edges. Buckner's ability to defend the run and collapse the pocket should be highly beneficial for those rookies." Buckner, 31, is a former first-round pick and three-time Pro Bowler. At 6-foot-7, 295 pounds, he's a tough matchup for any offensive lineman. Buckner has racked up 605 tackles (356 solo) and 67.5 sacks over nine NFL seasons. The veteran would also give Atlanta more versatility up front. The Falcons would in turn send Pitts to Cincinnati where he would join an elite offense. The Bengals already have an explosive unit led by Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Pitts would have a chance to get his career back on track before he enters free agency. "Pitts working in the same offense as Chase and Higgins to open up the middle of the field with Burrow throwing to him can be downright deadly, thus making the Bengals even more potent," explained Sobleski. While Pitts may benefit from a fresh start, there may not be a long-term fit for him in Cincinnati. The Bengals have a ton of cap space invested in Burrow, Higgins and Chase and aren't exactly known for their willingness to pay players. Even though they have cap space, the Bengals haven't been eager to pay Hendrickson, despite his impressive production. Aside from the long-term uncertainty, you could also argue that Pitts would find himself in the same situation in Cincinnati. He would essentially be playing on a team where he's the third or fourth option. The Falcons have received calls on Pitts' availability but haven't been willing to part with him just yet. Perhaps second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. can bring out the best in the former top-five pick this season.

NFL top 100 debuts June 30, which Indianapolis Colts players could make rankings?
The 2025 NFL top 100 rankings will debut on June 30th. How many Indianapolis Colts players could make the list? The NFL is set to unveil its list of the top 100 players for the 2025 NFL season, as voted on by the players, beginning on June 30th. So, how many Indianapolis Colts players could appear on the rankings this year? The unveiling of this list will go from June 30th through August 29th, with two new players being revealed each weekday as the countdown goes from No. 100 down to No. 1. The player reveals will take place on X at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM ET on weekdays and feature a three to five-minute video about each member on the list. Which Indianapolis Colts players could make the NFL's top 100 list in 2025? Last season, linebacker Zaire Franklin was the only member of the Colts to make this list. He came in at No. 100. Franklin should again be in consideration with him coming off a second-team All-Pro season in 2024, which included him leading the NFL in tackles. Along with Franklin, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is a prime candidate for this list, as is left guard Quenton Nelson. By PFF's metrics, Buckner was one of the more disruptive defensive tackles in the game last season, while Nelson made another Pro Bowl and was a second-team All-Pro. Following a bounce-back season by Jonathan Taylor, who finished fourth in rushing yards in the NFL, he could certainly have received some votes for these rankings as well. Lastly, I'll also mention Cam Bynum, who has had very good ball production over the last two seasons and has filled a variety of roles in the Minnesota secondary. Charvarius Ward, meanwhile, is one year removed from an All-Pro season in 2023, while Bernhard Raimann continues to improve and, by PFF's metrics, was one of the better tackles in 2024. Now, with all that said, while these players may be the best candidates on this Colts team, not all will make it. I would say that Franklin, Buckner, and Nelson are the most likely to land on this list.

Who is Indianapolis Colts top candidate to win Defensive Player of the Year in 2025?
Who is considered the Colts' top Defensive Player of the Year candidate for the 2025 NFL season? Pro Football Network recently weighed in. Who is considered the Indianapolis Colts' top Defensive Player of the Year candidate for the 2025 NFL season? Jacob Infante of Pro Football Network recently selected who he believes the top candidate is for each team. When it came to the Colts, DeForest Buckner was the selection. "With 58.5 sacks over his last seven seasons, DeForest Buckner has long been one of the best pass-rushing defensive tackles in the NFL," wrote Infante. "He's a three-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro, but Buckner hasn't been a Defensive Player of the Year finalist yet. If he manages to stay healthy for a full 17 games, that could change in 2025." The last five NFL Defensive Player of the Year winners An ankle injury sidelined Buckner from Weeks 3-7 last season, but upon his return, he was his usual highly disruptive self. Even with missing five games, Buckner was still third on the team in pressures. Compared to his position group league-wide, he ranked seventh in PFF's pass rush win rate, 12th in pass rush productivity, and ninth in run-stop rate. That level of efficiency over the course of a full season has the potential to turn into some high-level production. In 2023, Buckner ranked 14th among all defensive tackles in pressures that year, and he was tied for eighth in sacks. For some context, and of course, the production that's needed to win this award each season differs, but when Aaron Donald won in 2020--the last defensive tackle to do so--he led all defensive linemen in pressures and sacks, according to PFF. Along with Buckner's own production, his presence on the field greatly benefits all the defenders around him with the attention he draws, the push he generates, and the mismatches he helps create.

Giant redwood, cabbage tree cluster in running for national title
By Shelley Topp Rangiora Borough School's giant redwood and a cluster of cabbage trees in Burnside have been named as finalists in the NZ Tree of the Year competition. The redwood tree was named Waimakariri Tree of the Year earlier this year, while the enduring cluster of tī kōuka/cabbage trees at Burnside High School - known as Te Herenga Ora - has been called a "silent sentinel of history". The towering Sequoiadendron giganteum in Rangiora, which is believed to have been planted in about 1860, and Te Herenga Ora are two of the six finalists chosen by a panel of judges. It is now up to the New Zealand public to choose which one of them will become 'Tree of the Year NZ 2025'. The competition is organised by the NZ Notable Trees Trust as a celebration of the "beloved trees that shape our landscapes, memories, and communities", says trustee Brad Cadwallader. "It was inspired by the long-running European Tree of the Year and shares stories of trees that hold cultural, historical, and personal significance." Rangiora Borough School principal Shane Buckner said it was exciting to learn the "beautiful tree" was a finalist in the national competition. The tree has become a living symbol of continuity, pride and belonging at the school. "It has featured in many designs over the 150 years Rangiora Borough School has been part of the community," Buckner said. "Our updated uniform has a stylish representation of our tree in the side panels of the shirt, and our children wear this with pride." The tree is the "focal point" of the school with a stage built around its trunk dedicated to the tamariki of Rangiora Borough School. Pupils can "sing, dance and play on for many generations to come" on the stage in memory of the late Alan Sutton who was principal at the school from 2001-2021. "The stage area provides a number of opportunities for our children to gather and use in a variety of ways, from performance or just for relaxing," Buckner says. He is hoping Canterbury residents will support the school by voting for its tree in the national competition. The Waimakariri competition was run by the Waimakariri District Council greenspace team. Council senior ranger biodiversity Mike Kwant is also calling on the Canterbury community to vote for the giant redwood. "We are thrilled that our Rangiora Borough School giant redwood has been selected as a finalist," Kwant says. "I am sure you all will be keen to promote this Waimakariri District tree by voting for it, and sharing this around the traps to get as many votes as we can muster." Meanwhile, the NZ Notable Trees Trust said what makes Te Herenga Ora truly remarkable is its living legacy. "It is not just a single tree but a self-sustaining cluster, constantly renewing itself as older trees pass and new ones take their place. "This cycle of renewal ensures that the landmark remains intact, a testament to endurance, resilience, and the deep-rooted connection between land and people."
