(Image: PA) Signals from Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of her Mansion House speech tonight that the UK Government will bring forward measures to help more people get on to the housing ladder were not enough to keep one of the UK's biggest housebuilders out of the red on the stock market. Shares in Barratt Redrow closed down nearly 10% at one stage this week after it emerged profits would now be around 10% lower than previously guided because of the cost of remedial works on previously completed projects. That came as the company highlighted the impact on demand for new homes from 'consumer caution and mortgage rates not falling as quickly as hoped'. Housing completions for the 52 weeks ended June 29 were 'slightly below' the guided range at 16,565, which the company said was 'mainly due to the impact of fewer international and investor completions than expected in our London businesses'. Latimer selects GRAHAM for $148m redevelopment project in UK

Clarion Housing Group's development arm Latimer has appointed GRAHAM as the main contractor for the £110m ($148m) redevelopment of the former Boddingtons Brewery site in the UK. This project will transform the 1.25-acre brownfield site on Great Ducie Street in central Manchester into a residential community, delivering 505 new mixed-tenure homes. The development will include 60% affordable housing, with 115 homes designated for social rent, 171 for shared ownership, and 17 for rent classed as affordable. Located next to the Manchester College digital and creative campus, the latest project highlights Latimer's aim to regenerate key urban areas. A significant milestone was achieved with the development's Gateway 2 approval under the Building Safety Act. This is said to be the second project of Latimer to receive approval this year, alongside the Leeds Dyecoats development, both being delivered by GRAHAM. Construction is set to begin in the coming months, and completion is anticipated in late 2028. The buildings will feature aluminium windows, traditional brick facades, and juliet balconies. GRAHAM regional director Stephen Van den Hoek said: 'Securing Gateway 2 approval is a significant milestone and reflects the collaborative effort between our teams to meet the highest standards of safety and design. 'This project marks another step forward in delivering high-quality, affordable homes across the region and reinforces our commitment to creating places where communities can thrive.' The project, which forms a key element of the area's broader regeneration vision, is funded in part by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig said: 'This is an important development not only in that it will deliver significant affordable housing in the heart of our city - helping to meet demand and widen housing options for our residents - but it also signals some of the first investment that is kick-starting the major long-term regeneration of the wider Strangeways area.' Last month, Glasgow City Council in Scotland granted planning consent for GRAHAM Investment Projects' student accommodation development in the city's Anderston area. Fusion21 appoints suppliers for $1.05bn Building Safety Framework

UK-based social enterprise Fusion21 has appointed suppliers to its Building Safety and Compliance Framework, valued at up to £800m ($1.05bn) over a four-year period. Overall, 145 specialist companies, with 81% classified as small and medium-sized enterprises, have obtained their places on the framework. In November 2024, Fusion 21 officially announced the renewal of its Building Safety and Compliance Framework, seeking bids from suppliers. This framework is designed to provide support for Fusion21 members in managing and maintaining building safety, as well as demonstrating compliance with regulations. It offers both regional and national coverage and has been established under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. The framework includes a new lot specifically dedicated to sprinkler and mist systems. The Building Safety and Compliance Framework is divided into 12 distinct lots, covering a comprehensive range of services. These include asbestos surveying and consultancy, asbestos abatement and removal, legionella and water hygiene consultancy, and fire safety-related services such as surveying, risk assessments, and inspections. Passive fire protection, fire suppression systems, active fire safety, warden call and telehealth services, and electronic security are also integral parts of the framework. Fusion21 group executive director of operations Peter Francis said: "Our members continue to invest heavily to ensure the buildings they manage are safe. With the introduction of the Building Safety Act (BSA 2022), the responsibility to ensure building compliance has grown, and we're delighted to be able to continue supporting our members with this framework renewal as part of our 'big six' offer. 'Having listened to member and supplier feedback, we've created a new generation of the Building Safety and Compliance Framework, suitable for all building types across the public sector. 'Working with a team of technical procurement experts and prequalified suppliers, our members will benefit from a fast route to market and flexible call-off options. As with all Fusion21 frameworks, this latest framework enables our members to deliver social value they can see in communities, aligned with their organisational priorities."
