Sabah Umno focused on future, not past decisions: Bung

Published on: Thursday, July 17, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 17, 2025 Text Size: Bung (left) said the party respects Abdul Rahman's right to express differing views. KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the party respects Sabah Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan's right to express differing views as part of democratic maturity. He acknowledged that Abdul Rahman was referring to political developments in 2022, but emphasised that such differences were resolved through party consensus. Advertisement Bung said the decision to leave the State Government at the time was not personal, but based on collective leadership after weighing all implications. He added that while the past should be respected, Sabah Umno prefers to move forward rather than dwell on old episodes. Bung also cautioned against attempts by certain media outlets to revive the issue for their narrative ahead of the state election. He stressed that Sabah Umno is united, energised, and ready to contest the coming election with a clear agenda and strong grassroots support. Earlier, Abdul Rahman had described the 2022 decision - dubbed 'Langkah Kinabalu' - as a major mistake that weakened Umno's position in Sabah. He said the move caused Umno to lose strategic positions in the state government, along with several elected representatives and grassroots roles. Abdul Rahman insisted that Umno should remain in government to retain its influence and respect in Sabah's political landscape. He acknowledged Bung's leadership but urged a more strategic approach to political decisions to safeguard the party's long-term strength. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Bung rules out election talks with GRS

Published on: Tuesday, July 15, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 15, 2025 Text Size: 'So I do not care about this GRS,' said Bung. KINABATANGAN: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin reiterated his stance of not entering into any negotiations with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ahead of the coming 17th state election. He said as far as Umno was concerned, many GRS leaders could not be trusted and had breached signed agreements. Advertisement Asked about GRS' direction for the polls, Bung said if the coalition has decided, it should just go ahead and say so without further twists and turns. 'It's not that difficult. I have said many times, I do not trust and have no confidence in GRS,' he said, adding that leaders who jump from one party to another are traitors who only think for themselves, and would eventually betray the people. 'So I do not care about this GRS,' said Bung. Over the weekend, there was a growing push from grassroots supporters in Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Sabah Star for the ruling coalition to go into the polls on its own. With the Sabah State Legislative Assembly due to be dissolved by Nov 11, political parties have been locked in discussions over possible electoral pacts. The situation remains fluid amid local political rivalries and a groundswell of support for Sabah to regain its autonomous rights through local parties. GRS is in a coalition with Sabah Pakatan Harapan in the State Government, while Barisan Nasional remains in the opposition in Sabah. Sabah Barisan and Sabah Pakatan are discussing an electoral pact, while Hajiji is keen to work with Sabah Pakatan, without Barisan. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Bung rules out talks with GRS ahead of state polls

Bung rules out talks with GRS ahead of state polls KINABATANGAN: Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has ruled out any possibility of political negotiations with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ahead of the upcoming state election. He said his lack of trust in GRS stems from the very beginning, citing concerns over the coalition's leadership. Advertisement 'People know my stand from the start - I have no confidence in GRS,' he told reporters at the Radu Tetap Radu programme in Kampung Nusa Jaya on Sunday. Bung criticised party-hopping among GRS leaders, describing it as a betrayal of the people's mandate. SPONSORED CONTENT 'When someone keeps switching parties, it shows they are thinking only of themselves, not the people,' he added. He also called for clear and firm decisions from all parties on whether to contest solo or not in the state polls. Bung's leadership remains strong and people's choice - Salleh

Salleh speaking at the Radu Tatap Radu event. KINABATANGAN (July 13): A vibrant show of unity and grassroots support was on full display at the Radu Tatap Radu event held on Sunday at the Buang Sayang Polling District Centre (PDM) in the Lamag state constituency, with the spotlight firmly on the leadership of Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin. Speaking at the event, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, director of BN Sabah's election campaign, stated that any attempt to challenge Bung's position in Lamag is nothing more than a political fantasy. 'Any effort to topple Bung in Lamag is merely wishful thinking,' said Salleh. 'The people of Lamag know Bung well. They have seen, with their own eyes, the transformation he has brought to Kinabatangan – a once-neglected region that is now nationally recognised for its development, infrastructure upgrades and political significance.' Salleh further emphasized that Bung who is also the Member of Parliament for Kinabatangan, is not just a strong figure in Lamag but one of the key voices advocating for Sabah at the national level. 'Bung's experience, courage and unwavering commitment to the people are second to none. From rural road upgrades and clean water supply to ensuring Kinabatangan's concerns are heard in federal corridors – he has consistently delivered,' he added. The Radu Tatap Radu event at Buang Sayang, which was also attended by Bung himself, was described by Salleh as more than just a community programme – it was a clear display of loyalty and political confidence from the people. 'This is more than a community programme – it is a declaration of loyalty. Bung's leadership is not only respected but sought after by the people. Lamag remains a BN stronghold, and the voters are clear about who they trust to continue fighting for their future,' he concluded.

'Winds of change' give Gagasan Rakyat an advantage in Lamag, says VP

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah is pulling out all the stops to wrest the Lamag state seat from Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. Gagasan Rakyat vice-president Datuk Masiung Banah said Lamag constituents want local parties to represent them. "There is a political wind in Sabah, especially in Lamag, in favour of local parties," Masiung said when opening the Gagasan Rakyat office for the Lamag division headed by Abu Bakar Kapar. Masiung, who is Kuamut assemblyman, said that the Lamag division was working hard to capture the seat from Bung, who is the Sabah Umno chairman and Kinabatangan MP. "Gagasan Rakyat will ensure GRS will field the best candidate to take on Bung in the coming state election," Masiung said, advising party workers to work as a family to win the hearts of voters. Lamag, a newly created state seat, was won by Bung on a Barisan ticket in the 2020 Sabah Polls when Barisan teamed up with Bersatu to topple the Parti Warisan and Pakatan Harapan state government. The Lamag, Kuamut and Sukau state seats are part of the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat.
