Massive price for 1960s time capsule home

A 1960s house, built by a carpenter for his family and preserved as if time stood still, has sold for $2.405m, setting a new benchmark for an original property in one of the Gold Coast's most sought-after beachside pockets. With a Hills Hoist in the backyard and lace tablecloths in the kitchen, the cottage amazed buyers with its immaculately preserved tableau of the past as it came to market for the first time ever. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house on a 670 sqm lot at 9 Tawarri Cres, Burleigh Heads, sold 11 days after listing, to a local buyer planning to build a family home. Marketing agent Paddy Quinn, of PRD Burleigh Heads, said the price was the highest achieved for an original home in the popular community of Koala Park, located close to picturesque Tallebudgera Creek. 'This is a prime lifestyle location where high-end luxury homes have sold for phenomenal amounts, and the result is testament to how competitive it has become to get into Koala Park,' Mr Quinn said. The last comparable sale was a four-bedroom house on the same street, sold for $1.94m in December and on the market for the first time in 26 years. Burleigh 'marble mansion' up for rent Qld renters missing out on energy bill relief With its cream and green exterior, retro coloured glass, shagpile carpets and shelves displaying religious figures, Mr Quinn said the house at 9 Tawarri sent many buyers on a trip down memory lane. 'The home had never been renovated and was kept pretty much as though time had stood still since the 1960s,' he said. 'The idea of the campaign was firstly, to pay homage to the vendors' late parents for their quality construction of a home that showcases enduring craftsmanship and timeless character – the saying, 'they don't build them like they used to', comes to mind.' It was sold as a deceased estate, and had been home to the seller's mother, a beloved local character known as 'Terry', since it was built until her death aged 91. 'It was a one-of-a-kind house built with a lot of love for a very loving family.' PropTrack data shows house prices in Burleigh Heads were up 16.2 per cent over the past 12 months to a median of $1.569m.

Luxury Porsche vandalised with ‘cheater' message

The Gold Coast owner of a luxury black Porsche has seemingly upset someone after their car was spotted spray-painted with the word 'CHEATER' across the side. On Reddit forums, people shared photos of the car at various popular spots, including the trendy James Street in Burleigh Heads, a restaurant area in Broadbeach, and a car park at a well-known gym. The sports car, valued at least $130,000, was also marked with 'DUCK YOU' and 'HAHAHA' on the rear. After onlookers gathered and snapped photos on James Street, two people were seen getting into the vehicle and driving off, according to The Courier Mail. 'Really f***ed up' In the r/GoldCoast subreddit, users shared their thoughts on this act of 'revenge vandalism' – which is the act of intentionally damaging property after a perceived wrongdoing. 'I'd love to see the link between owning a Porsche and being unfaithful. Cars like that don't scream reliable family man,' joked one. 'No hiding that from anyone. Guess he or she should have thought about what they were doing,' said another. 'Guy took 'cheat day' literally,' another person wrote, referencing the gym trend of taking a break from dieting, as the car was spotted outside a gym. 'My partner and I saw that exact car and we were like 'dayum that guy really f***ed up',' shared someone else. 'Glad I'm single,' quipped another. Scepticism brews However, many quickly pointed out it could be a publicity stunt, as it appeared to be written in temporary chalk paint and was seen in multiple high-pedestrian areas all on the same day. 'This may be a publicity stunt,' suggested one. 'Careful. Didn't some company do something like this as a free publicity stunt the other week? Everyone started rumours, and it turned out to be for a company launching a new product or something,' another added. It's true that last month, a luxury black Range Rover was seen in the eastern suburbs of Sydney with the same message spray-painted on the side. The head-turning SUV was parked at Bondi Beach on a weekend, causing a fair bit of fuss among passers-by who shared photos and videos on social media. 'Well deserved,' said one user on a local community page, while another called the petty revenge 'gold'. However, it was later revealed that the defaced vehicle was part of a PR stunt for the brand Nude by Nature, promoting their new mascara range called 'Lash Affair'. When people scanned a QR code on the dashboard, it linked to the brand's website with a promotional deal on the product. The brand's Marketing Manager told that she knew the word 'cheater' would turn heads – and that's exactly what they wanted. It appeared to be a copycat stunt of a similar campaign in the UK, where a white Range Rover was seen outside a Harrods in London, painted with red words: 'It's over,' and 'Hope she was worth it'. It turned out to be a PR stunt for an American reality TV show.

The couple share daughters Elle, four, and Ruby, one, and met and fell in love on The Bachelor back in 2013 and have called Sydney their home ever since. She said the happy family purchased a residence at lavish hotel Mondrian in Burleigh Heads and will be settling in there on Monday. 'We're heading up to the Gold Coast. We brought a property up there called the Mondrian. They've got different hotels around the world,' she said. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'We brought a property there around four years ago and it's only just settling now. So we're actually going to be moving up there.' 'Everything is happening this week. We're moving up there on Monday. I'm staying for a day and then I'll be coming back [to Sydney],' Anna added. 'We wanted a bit of a change. We don't know how long we'll be there. We're still going to keep our place here [in Sydney]. 'So we will be back and forth a lot for work. We just thought it would be really nice to get away from Sydney winter for a little bit. 'My business partner lives up there too. I've never lived overseas. We've never done anything like this as a family, or even individually.' The Mondrian residences are described as 'coastal luxury' with restaurants, bars and a pool club sitting on the ground floor on the shore of Burleigh Heads. Spa and wellness treatments are also offered on site and all properties have a stunning view of Burleigh Beach. As for her daughters, Anna said Elle is at an age where she is beginning to make friends so is 'a little bit sad' to be moving away from Sydney. 'I think [Elle's] a little bit sad going to the Gold Coast because she won't be able to see her friends,' she said. Spa and wellness treatments are also offered on site and all properties have a stunning view of Burleigh Beach 'They're starting to get to that age where they're making good friends and they don't want to leave them. 'But I know she'll make a lot of good friends while on the Gold Coast... She's great at making friends.' Anna added that Elle will officially be in primary school next year, which the influencer feels 'nervous' about but says she knows her daughter will 'thrive'. As for Anna's husband Tim, 42, who she married in 2018, he will be handling the initial set-up of the move. The blonde beauty will only get to spend one day on the Gold Coast after they move in before she has to fly back to Sydney for work. She will be attending a Huggies activation event at Westfield Bondi Junction, which will start next Wednesday on June 11 from 9am. Anna has been an ambassador for the nappy brand for four years, and is currently promoting the company's latest 'hero range' Huggies SkinProtect Nappies. Huggies, in collaboration with Hello Skin, has produced 'cheeky' limited edition Bum Masks for parents and will celebrate with an immersive pop-up at Bondi Junction. Anna and pediatric skincare expert Dr Deshan Sebaratnam will be in attendance at the four-day event as they invite parents along for the free experience. Thousands of visitors can receive skincare tips from Dr Deshan, take part in fun family photo moments and enjoy free pastries and babycinos. They will also be treated to take home samples of the new Huggies range and the limited edition Huggies Bum Mask. 'It's cheeky, pun intended,' Anna joked, adding the Bum Mask is a 'tongue-in-cheek' way of Huggies saying they'll 'look after parents' as well as their babies. 'I actually tried it,' she laughed, when asked if she had sampled the product which she describes is a 'face mask for your bottom'. 'Nobody was home. You have to lie on your stomach. You can either get someone to help or you can put it on yourself. It is quite relaxing,' she said.

Fitzgibbons, Wilson fall short in Gold Coast Pro final

Julian Wilson's incredible run from the trial to the title has fallen just short with the Australian surfing veteran beaten in an epic final at the Gold Coast Pro. The 36-year-old squared off against Felipe Toledo in the title decider which was a repeat of their 2015 final, also won by the Brazilian, and was edged in a thriller 17.60 to 17.20. Fellow Australian Sally Fitzgibbons also went down swinging in the women's final at Burleigh Heads with Hawaii's Bettylou Sakura Johnson claiming her first World Surf League trophy. After almost four years away from the tour, Wilson claimed the sole wildcard for the main event by winning the pre-competition trial and then surfed his way all the way through to Saturday's final. He and two-time world champion Toledo went blow for blow, with the crowd packed on the headland roaring their approval for both veterans for their lofty airs and searing turns. In his first final for 2025 after taking last season off, Toledo, who scored a perfect 10 ride in his semi-final, set the benchmark early with an 8.53 which he backed up with a 9.07. Former world No.2 Wilson kept hammering, with his top scoring waves of 8.80 and 8.40 coming in the back-end of the final in a heated finish between the rivals. 10 years later and @filipetoledo wins another @originalbonsoy #GoldCoastPro!! 🏆Huge congrats to Filipe.@gwmaustralia @experiencegoldcoast @queensland — World Surf League (@wsl) May 10, 2025 But in the end there was no fairytale finish and fifth title for the Sunshine Coast product, who will compete in the Challenger Series next year. "It's not easy to step away from the thing you love to prioritise your family and watch from the sidelines and I guess these surfers inspire me so much," said an emotional Wilson. "This is what I was born to do. My kids got to share it this week and it's been super, super special." Seeking her first CT title since a win at Rottnest Island in 2021, Fitzgibbons was also denied by the Hawaiian young gun. The 34-year-old threw everything at her young rival, surfing a mammoth 13 waves, but fell short with a two-wave score of 7.83 to Sakura Johnson's impressive tally of 15.33. FIRST CT WIN FOR BETTYLOU 🏆A huge congrats to Bettylou, winner of the 2025 @originalbonsoy #GoldCoastPro!@Queensland — World Surf League (@wsl) May 10, 2025 The Gerroa surfer went to the air four times, trying to stick a landing that would give her a score to put her back in contention, but she was unable to seal the deal. "I wanted to get it together so bad in that final but it was Betty's day," Fitzgibbons said. "It's been a fight and a grind in the last few years, but I want to be here and my deep desire is to keep surfing." It was Sakura Johnson's second win of the day over a local hope after earlier eliminating top-ranked Australian Molly Picklum in the quarter-finals. "This is the best feeling in the world, and I'm over the moon to have my first win here on the Gold Coast," said Sakura Johnson, competing in her second final after bursting on to the scene as a 16-year-old. "This is what winning feels like, and I want to keep winning." Fitzgibbons outscored Erin Brooks in the semi-finals earlier in the day, with the Canadian wunderkind eliminating six-time Gold Coast champion and eight-time world title holder Stephanie Gilmore in the quarters. With Gilmore's former coach Jake Patterson in her corner, Brooks used superior wave selection to get the better of the Australian legend, who is due to return to the tour full-time next year.

Sally Fitzgibbons and Julian Wilson fall short in Gold Coast Pro final

Australia's Sally Fitzgibbons has gone down swinging in the Gold Coast Pro final, with Hawaiian Bettylou Sakura Johnson claiming victory. In the men's final, Fitzgibbons's compatriot Julian Wilson lost to Brazilian Filipe Toledo. Fitzgibbons was hunting her first Championship Tour (CT) title in four years. The 34-year-old threw everything at Sakura Johnson, surfing a mammoth 13 waves, but fell short with a two-wave score of 7.83 to her opponent's impressive tally of 15.33. Fitzgibbons was on the back foot from the start of the final, with 20-year-old Sakura Johnson posting a score of 8.50 on her first wave in front of a huge crowd at Burleigh Heads. The Australian went to the air four times, trying to stick a landing that would give her a score to put her back in contention, but she was unable to seal the deal. It was Sakura Johnson's second win of the day over an Australian, having earlier eliminated Molly Picklum in the quarterfinals. "It's so special and I feel amazing," Sakura Johnson said. "I'm so over the moon." Wilson, 36, squared off against Toledo in a repeat of their 2015 Gold Coast Pro final. They went blow for blow, with the crowd packed on the headland roaring its approval for both veterans as they repeatedly took to the air. Toledo won a thrilling contest, 17.60 to 17.20. "It was crazy with the rematch with Jules," Toledo said. "With Jules coming back to the tour, winning the trial and going all the way, it was such a special moment for him." AAP
