Somerset in Pictures: Heatwaves and naturists
Temperatures have risen to 31C across Somerset this week as the county experiences another people have been out soaking up the rays and we have had some stunning sunny scenes for you. Here comes the sun: It has been a scorcher of a week, so some weather watches have been heading out later to enjoy the cooler temperatures and witness the setting sun's golden light. This photograph was taken at Burnham-on-Sea's harbour. Daredevils: Kitesurfers have been making the most of the good weather and taking to the water in Weston-super-Mare. Cricket celebration: The popular Vitality Blast Women cricket match between Somerset and Essex at The Cooper Associates County Ground took place on 8 July. There were lots of celebrations as Somerset took the trophy. Naturism for Nudefest: Hundreds of people have descended on Thorney Lakes in Langport for one of the biggest events in the naturism calendar. From a volleyball tournament, to a performance from the Wurzels - they won't be leaving any tan lines. A wheely nice view: There was also an orange "buck moon" on Wednesday when it appears bigger because it is near the horizon. The above photograph was taken in Weston-super-Mare by one of our weather watchers. Putting down roots: Queen Camilla handed out seeds and cuttings from her garden during a day of visiting charitable organisations. Here, she is seen at Shockerwick Farm, near Bath, which runs a centre for children struggling with social exclusion. From Somerset to Wimbledon: Karen Dehalu, from Crewkerne, is part of the team which is behind keeping Wimbledon in bloom during the tournament. The event brings in more than 20,000 flowers for 'living walls', bedding displays and containers.

Dancer, 12, from Burnham-on-Sea, is crowned double world champion
A 12-year-old girl says it was "mind-blowing" to walk away from a dance competition as a double world from Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset, competed at the World Freestyle Championships at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on 28 and 29 entered the freestyle solo and slow dance categories, facing up to 60 dancers from countries including South Africa, Ireland and who trains at Dynamics School of Dance in Bristol, said: "It's like living in a dream." Isla's mother Fiona said she was "absolutely shocked" by the result, especially as her daughter had only recently taken up dance."To achieve something like this, being so young, is crazy," she said her daughter was so nervous after a win on the Saturday of the competition as she waited to compete in a final the next day."She told me she couldn't feel her legs… and slipped on her opening move... so to win from that, we just weren't expecting it at all," she added. Emma Mounter, head of Dynamics School of Dance, said: "Everyone at the dance school is just super proud."She's extremely hard working and anything we throw at her, she takes on the chin and works exceptionally hard."Isla said she was grateful to her dance teachers Ms Mounter and Maizie Rugman, and her sponsor Alex Weston "for everything they have done to help me achieve this".Her mother said she was not sure when it would sink in but "we can't wait to see what's ahead for Isla".

Somerset repair cafe's tech amnesty to support community
A community project, which encourages people to bring in items to be fixed for free, has opened an amnesty point for unused technology to be handed in and repurposed for others. The Repair Café, started by Biddy Hammond from Somerset, has helped hundreds of people since being set up in October has two donation drop-ins a month, one in Burnham on Sea and the other in nearby Highbridge. Items can also be donated at the information bureau on Burnham now have almost 20 volunteers, fixing items including soft toys, upholstery, electricals, and clocks, which in turn, reduces items sent to landfill sites. Ms Hammond said it was after hearing a woman at a charity shop saying she could not afford to fix her iron, that she came up with the idea of opening a repair café."I thought it's such a simple thing to do to help people out and it's pointless buying a new whatever every five minutes, because items work for such a short while nowadays." Repair Cafe volunteers also visit homes with a thermal imaging camera, to help people increase insulation with "simple fixes in their homes like thicker curtains," Ms Hammond said after lockdown the repair cafe has built the community in quite a strong way, offering a service and a social Champion, one of the repair team, said: "We have a good time, hopefully delight a few customers, and send them home with things they had written off that are back to working condition again."And people are so delighted when you help them fix something especially when it has high sentimental value," he added.

Exhibition of historic Burnham and Highbridge photos opens
A collection of historic pictures and documents detailing life in a seaside town for the past 140 years have gone on pictures of Burnham-on-Sea and the nearby market town of Highbridge are being exhibited at the Burnham Community Centre to mark the 40th anniversary of the North Sedgemoor Local History of the group John Strickland said he hoped members of the public would identify some of the photos' subjects."We're hoping that their relatives will come along and help us fill in the jigsaw with their names," he said. The display will cover the history of brewers Holt's, brick and tile manufacturers Apex and Colthurst & Symons, and a collection of photos of the Portishead Radio station which was situated where Mullholand Way is Strickland has also collected pictures of schools from the Victorian era, and pictures of the former Burnham-on-Sea railway station. "A lot of people have moved to Burnham recently and they are often really interested in the history of that area and Highbridge," he said."I'm a big railway buff, and I grew up next to the railway line coming into Burnham. "With the photos we can travel by train through into Burnham and then you can travel to see a boat at the jetty, that's when the railway was used to bring holiday makers in."There's a real interest in local history," he added."People really love the 'now and then' photographs."
