Article content Article content Enter musician and walking music encyclopedia, Burton Cummings, on the phone line. With decades filled with hit songs and historical Canadian firsts, Cummings, 77, has seen it all. Article content In the midst of another leg of his A Few Good Moments tour, the proud Winnipeg native has a brief break after recently headlining the all-Canadian lineup for Line Spike Frontenac, north of Kingston, Ont. Keeping Canadiana spirit in full force, performing Runnin' Back To Saskatoon (co-written with Kurt Winter), was a perfect inclusion. Article content Off the stage, one of his biggest achievements is his ever-growing MP3 collection, staggering in scope. Article content 'The minute CDs were invented, I was a happy guy and I went and got a whole half a dozen iPods and loaded them with all my favourite stuff because I fly all the time … so I've worked on my library now for 40 years and I can say this very honestly, I have way more documented music than any radio station in the world — anywhere. Article content 'I was never a vinyl fan because back in the hippie days we would party for days — and drink beers and play the records and they got scratched all the time — and then I would go and buy another copy of the white Beatles album … I never liked vinyl because there was always so much noise.' Article content But he remains faithful to his era. Article content 'I don't listen to that much modern stuff anymore, but I have to take my hat off to Taylor Swift. She broke all the records that I ever knew about in the industry. I kind of joke on stage now that I've survived into the Taylor Swift era and it makes me very proud.' Article content 'To have a new album out at this age in my life and have the tremendous reviews that I've gotten — it's like people, and the critics, have been very kind to this album. I'm very happy about this at my age.' Article content Article content A Few Good Moments also reveals a bookend to his life. Cummings shot the cover photo. Article content 'It was 1970. The big clock you see I bought on tour in the Maritimes, I think Halifax. The small clock was my mother's alarm clock through her whole entire adult life. The watch in the middle — I got for being on The Dating Game and not getting picked — so there you go.' Article content 'In the 1960s, there was nothing for pop music on television other than maybe the Ed Sullivan Show. You'd see somebody lip sync one big record for three minutes. When the Dating Game approached us (The Guess Who) they said, look, Burton is still single. The other three guys were all married. They said if you let Burton be bachelor No. 3, we will let you guys open the show lip syncing a song. So in 1969 that was a big deal to get on national television — and we lip synced Undun.

TORONTO, July 8, 2025 /CNW/ - The Feldman Agency (TFA) is proud to announce the signing of legendary Canadian rock band The Guess Who and the return of celebrated solo artist Burton Cummings to its roster. This reunion brings together four of the most influential names in Canadian music - The Guess Who, Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman and Bachman-Turner Overdrive (signed in May 2024) - under one roof at TFA. All acts are also now represented in the U.S. by David Levine of WME. With decades of acclaimed releases, major tours, and enduring impact, Burton Cummings and The Guess Who have played a foundational role in shaping Canadian rock music. Their presence at TFA signals both a recognition of their legacy and a renewed focus on strategic growth and future opportunities in live performance. "We're thrilled to welcome The Guess Who to The Feldman Agency and to welcome back Burton Cummings," said Jeff Craib, CEO of The Feldman Agency. "Having them on our roster alongside Bachman-Turner Overdrive is a meaningful alignment, and we're honoured to support and amplify their next chapter." As principal songwriters of The Guess Who 's early catalog, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings helped propel the group to international acclaim with a string of timeless hits including "These Eyes," "Laughing," "Undun," "American Woman," "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature," and "No Time." Their 1970 album American Woman topped the charts in Canada, and its title track became the first Billboard No. 1 hit by a Canadian group, solidifying The Guess Who 's place in rock history. Following the group's original run, Burton Cummings launched a successful solo career, earning a gold record for his debut single "Stand Tall" and releasing a string of hit singles and albums, including "I'm Scared," "My Own Way to Rock," "Break It to Them Gently," and "You Saved My Soul." His 1978 album Dream of a Child became the first quadruple platinum album by a Canadian artist. Randy Bachman went on to co-found Bachman-Turner Overdrive, which quickly emerged as a cornerstone of 1970s rock. The band is best known for classic tracks such as "Let It Ride," "Roll on Down the Highway," "Takin' Care of Business," "Lookin' Out for #1," and "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet." Currently, Bachman-Turner Overdrive is touring across North America with a full slate of summer dates, while Burton Cummings is also performing across the continent on an extensive solo run with his band. Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings to perform as Guess Who for 1st time in over 20 years
Randy Bachman, left, and Burton Cummings of The Guess Who perform during the halftime show at the 88th Grey Cup game in Calgary on November 26, 2000. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Aaron Harris Founding members Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman are set to perform as the Guess Who for the first time in over 20 years. The pair is setting sail next year as part of the Rock Legends Cruise XIII, along with other musical guests including Gene Simmons, Eric Burdon and The Animals, and Kevin Cronin. According to an Instagram post from the band, this cruise is the first time in 23 years Cummings and Bachman will reunite as The Guess Who. Since the band's split, the musicians have performed solo, as Bachman Cummings and as Bachman-Turner Overdrive. This news comes several months after Cummings and Bachman settled a lawsuit with original members Jim Kale and Garry Peterson over the Guess Who name. In 2023, Bachman and Cummings sued their former bandmates, alleging they assembled a 'cover band' to perform and release albums under the Guess Who name, while misleading fans into thinking Bachman and Cummings were involved. As part of the agreement, Bachman and Cummings have acquired the trademark for the band's name. The Rock Legends Cruise XIII will travel from Fort Lauderdale to Jamaica from Feb. 23 to 27, 2026. • With files from The Canadian Press.

Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings to reunite for 1st Guess Who performance in 23 years
Two of the Guess Who's founding members, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, are finally reuniting to perform, marking the first time the pair have performed as the Guess Who in 23 years. Bachman and Cummings will take the stage on the Rock Legends Cruise XIII which will sail from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., through the Caribbean in February 2026. While both musicians have each performed solo and as part of Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) since the Guess Who's 1975 split, on the ship they will perform the band's classics as well as solo material and BTO songs. The Guess Who's hits include American Woman, These Eyes and more, and popular songs by BTO include Takin' Care of Business and Let It Ride. Bachman is currently on tour with BTO, while Cummings is gearing up for a solo tour that begins on June 21 in Edmonton. In 2024, Cummings and Bachman settled their lawsuit against the band's other original members, Jim Kale and Garry Peterson. In the suit, they alleged Kale and Peterson had mislead fans into thinking Bachman and Cummings were still in the Guess Who, by forming a "cover band" and putting out albums albums under the Guess Who name. "I want people to realize that Randy Bachman, Kurt Winter, Bill Wallace, all the people that wrote the songs … we're the ones that made the records. I don't want the history of the band to be tied up with these fakes," Cummings told CBC Manitoba in 2024.
