Longhorns land coveted catcher Carson Tinney through transfer portal

On Monday, the Longhorns offense got a major upgrade On Monday, Longhorns baseball got its best news of the offseason. Former Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney announced that he was joining Texas. He was ranked as the No. 5 player in the NCAA transfer portal, according to Baseball America. Now, he will get to build on his career year in Austin. During his sophomore year, Tinney became one of the best players in the country. The talented backstop was a Buster Posey Award finalist and first-team All-American. In 48 games, Tinney posted a .348 batting average and drove in 53 runs. Tinney also showed some power as 30 of his 55 hits went for extra bases. As he made headlines with his bat, the newest Longhorn also showed great patience at the plate. Although Tinney was elite offensively, that is not the only way he brings value. The Colorado native is also excellent in the field. In his last season at Notre Dame, he only made three errors while throwing out 17 of 25 attempted base stealers. With Tinney now in the mix, Texas will have an elite option behind the plate for the second straight year. Tinney will replace Rylan Galvan, who is also a Buster Posey Award finalist. Following a stellar season, Rylan Galvan is expected to hear his name called in the MLB Draft next month. In Tinney, the Longhorns are also getting a player with two years of eligibility. That gives him plenty of time to carve out a legacy in Texas if he doesn't enter the draft next year. Regardless of how long Tinney is a Longhorn, his career should be full of unforghetale moments. After winning an SEC championship, the Longhorns offense will again be a force to be reckoned with. The Longhorns roster has the potential to win a national title, and Tinney is expected to be a key player.

Longhorns baseball connected to elite ACC Catcher in the transfer Portal

Longhorns baseball connected to elite ACC Catcher in the transfer Portal The Longhorns are in the mix for Carson Tinney Over the last week, Texas Longhorns baseball has been one of the busiest teams in the transfer portal. While they have added a few elite bats, they are not done looking for talent. They are reportedly in the mix for Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney, alongside the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs. With Rylan Galvin expected to enter the MLB Draft, the Longhorns will need a new catcher. Adding a player like Tinney would ensure that Texas still has an elite option behind the plate. Along with Galvin, Tinney is a finalist for the Buster Posey Award, which is awarded annually to the best catcher in college baseball. During the 2025 campaign, Tinney was a human highlight reel with the bat. In 48 games, the talented sophomore hit 27 home runs while driving in 53 runs. He led the Fighting Irish in walks with 34 and total bases with 119. Regardless of the opponent, the Valor Christian High School product was a hits machine. While the Longhorns would love to add Tinney's bat to the lineup, he is not the only player they have been connected to. Texas Is also reportedly showing interest in Virginia's Harry Ford, the best bat in the portal. Like Tinney, he is being courted by some of the top programs in the country, including Florida. If Tinney were to join Texas, he would be part of a talented transfer class. That group includes Luke Dotson, Kaleb Freeman, Hayes Holton, and Jack Moroknek. After winning an SEC championship, the Longhorns wasted little time improving their roster with some of the top hitters available. Over the next few weeks, Tinney will be a player to watch. Texas is one of the final teams in the mix, and they hope his next stop will be in Austin before becoming an MLB Draft pick in 2026.

Longhorns catcher named finalist for prestigious award

Longhorns catcher named finalist for prestigious award Rylan Galvan earns national recognition for his play Texas Longhorns catcher Rylan Galvan could soon be adding to his trophy case. The Texas native has been named a finalist for the Buster Posey Award. Each year, the award is given to the best catcher in Division 1 baseball. The other finalists are Caden Bodine and Carson Tinney. In 56 games during the 2025 campaign, Galvan was one of the Longhorns' best players. He set career highs in home runs with 15, RBI with 57, and hits with 55. For the first time in his career, the Sinton High School product appeared in more than 53 games. With an increased workload, Galvin took his game to another level. While Galvan made headlines with his bat he also impressed in the field. The talented junior finished the regular season with a .992 fielding percentage. He only committed four errors and added 31 assists to his resume. Although the Longhorns fell short of their ultimate goal, Galvan was a bright spot. In Bodine and Tunney, Galvan is going up against two players coming off impressive seasons. Bodine posted a .329 batting average while driving in 38 runs for Coastal Carolina in 50 games. Tinney, like his fellow finalists, thrived at the plate. He finished his sophomore campaign with a .348 batting average in 48 games for Notre Dame. This talented trio will not have to wait long to learn their fate. The winner of the Buster Posey Award will be announced in 18 days. Galvan aims to make history by becoming the first Buster Posey/Johnny Bench National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award winner in Longhorns history.

Multiple Notre Dame baseball players earn All-ACC honors

Multiple Notre Dame baseball players earn All-ACC honors Notre Dame baseball had a pretty good season this spring, as they ended the regular season with a 32-20 record, 14-16 in ACC play. While the Irish are the No. 11 seed in the conference tournament, there were multiple players that stood out this season, and on Monday they were rewarded by the ACC for their play. Catcher Carson Tinney was named to the first-team, and also got more national recognition on top of what he earned last week. He was named as a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, going out to the top catcher in the country. The sophomore hit 17 home runs, had 53 RBI and scored 51 runs on the year. While he was the only Notre Dame player to make the first-team, two starting pitchers made third-team All-ACC in Rory Fox and Jack Radel. Each of them played a huge part in the Irish's success this year, and hopefully that doesn't end later today. Fox led the team in ERA with a 3.34 mark, with Radel just behind him at 3.58. Freshman outfielder Bino Watters made the conference All-Freshman team, after hitting .317 with 9 home runs and 38 RBI. The future is bring for the Irish, considering how young they were this season, and the talent that returns. Hopefully this was the stepping stone they needed to make a much bigger splash in the conference and nationally next season. Congrats to all four of the Notre Dame baseball players who were honored by the ACC.

Auburn baseball: Ike Irish receives first round projection in MLB Pipeline's latest mock

Auburn baseball: Ike Irish receives first round projection in MLB Pipeline's latest mock Irish has powered Auburn's offense with a .345 average, 13 home runs, and 48 RBI so far this season, which has earned him first-round buzz. Auburn baseball is beginning to heat up in the later stages of the season, so is the draft stock of one of its top hitters. Ike Irish was included in MLB Pipeline's initial mock draft released this week, where he received a first-round projection. According to MLB Pipeline's debut mock draft of the year, Irish is projected to land with the Houston Astros organization with the No. 21 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 MLB draft. Irish is one of six SEC players included in MLB Pipeline's first-round projections, joining the likes of Tennessee pitcher Liam Doyle, Texas A&M outfielder Jace Laviolette, and LSU pitcher Kade Anderson. Irish has been one of the most consistent players in the Auburn lineup over the last three seasons. He signed with the Tigers as the No. 39 overall player from the 2022 recruiting cycle and the No. 3 overall catcher. He made a quick impact by earning a spot on the All-SEC Freshman team and several Freshman All-America teams in 2023 by hitting .361 with 50 RBI and 31 extra-base hits. He followed suit in 2024 by boosting his home run, RBI, and stolen base output, which earned him first team All-SEC honors and a place on the Buster Posey Award semifinals list. This season, Irish leads the team in home runs (13) and RBI (48). He is second on the team in average (.345) and fourth in hits (64). Expect Irish to continue his consistency at the plate as his team prepares for a lengthy postseason journey.
