Four arrested as police bust cheating racket in govt recruitment exam
New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted a cheating racket in a govt recruitment exam, arresting four individuals, including a dummy candidate, a schoolteacher, and an office superintendent. The four accused have been identified as Sumit Dahiya, 29, an exam aspirant who impersonated another candidate in a CBSE-conducted exam for junior secretariat attendant posts; Bimal Kumar Singh, 59, a physics teacher; Baljeet Singh, 50, school's office superintendent; and a 40-year-old woman who allegedly acted as the facilitator. Dahiya was promised Rs 6 lakh for impersonating the original candidate, Ankur, police said, adding, key documents including Aadhaar, admit card, and the OMR sheet have been recovered. According to police, the racket came to light on May 18 when the school principal of a private institution in Hemkunt Colony, Greater Kailash-1, alerted the police about suspected impersonation. Upon verification, it was confirmed that Dahiya was not the original candidate. A case was registered at Greater Kailash Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police team initiated an investigation and arrested Dahiya, Bimal Kumar Singh, Baljeet Singh and the woman who allegedly acted as the facilitator between the dummy candidate and the school staff. "During investigation, police arrested Dahiya, 29, who admitted to impersonating Ankur. He disclosed that he had been contacted by a middleman and offered money amounting to Rs 6 lakh to appear in the exam. The woman facilitator, who had earlier worked with the school in coordinating open-school exam related work, used her network to connect Dahiya with school staff—Bimal and Baljeet—who allegedly accepted Rs 50,000 each to help Dahiya gain access to the exam hall using Ankur's credentials," said DCP (south) Ankit Chauhan. "Dahiya reached out to a woman known to him, who introduced him to the school staff. She had strong links with them from past work. All of them collaborated to execute the impersonation," he said. All four accused have been booked under Section 319 (Cheating by personation), Section 318 (Cheating), and Section 61 (Criminal conspiracy) of the BNS. Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the original candidate, Ankur.
