UNC Basketball face off against Big 12 school in exhibition game

Thanks to another strong incoming high school recruiting class, combined with a significantly-improved transfer portal class, the UNC basketball team has a strong outlook heading into its 2025-2026 season. The crown jewel of North Carolina's 2025 recruiting class is 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, who committed to Hubert Davis' program in January. Lacking height on their roster last year, the Tar Heels snagged a pair of tall, talented post players in Henri Veesaar and Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson. Advertisement We also know a little bit about UNC's schedule, with a few non-conference matchups released for this fall. North Carolina will play both St. Bonaventure and Michigan State in the Fort Myers (Fla.) Tip-Off during Thanksgiving Week, travel to Kentucky for the ACC-SEC Challenge on December 2, then travel to Atlanta (Ga.) for a CBS Sports Classic matchup with Ohio State. On Friday afternoon, the Tar Heels released another teaser for their 2025-2026 schedule: an October 24 exhibition game in Salt Lake City, Utah against the BYU Cougars. BYU, which is coming off a Sweet 16 appearance in March, should be one of the top teams across college basketball this coming season. The Cougars fared well in the transfer portal themselves, but their top roster highlight will be AJ Dybantsa. Ranked the Class of 2025's top recruit, Dybantsa chose BYU over UNC during his recruiting cycle. Advertisement This is the second-consecutive season North Carolina will open its season with a high-profile exhibition matchup. The Tar Heels traveled to face the Memphis Tigers on October 15, 2024, a 84-76 victory highlighted by Seth Trimble's 33-point outburst. Kentucky's Mark Pope Issues Stern Warning to Rick Pitino

Mark Pope is ready for Rick Pitino—and not just on the court. The Kentucky head coach, who led the Wildcats to a Sweet 16 in his first season, is already looking ahead to a marquee showdown in December when Kentucky faces St. John's in the CBS Sports Classic. Advertisement The matchup, set for Dec. 20 in Atlanta, pits Pope against his former coach, Rick Pitino, in what promises to be a must-watch event. But Pope isn't just thinking Xs and Os—he's thinking tailoring. 'I'm putting this out there so Coach P can hear it. I am bringing the suit game,' Pope said with a grin. 'I already started planning. Coach, just be ready. K? Bring it.' He wasn't done. 'And the game's gonna be elite. I'm not going white. Listen, I'm not trying to be the Don. Like, that position's already been taken. But I'm bringing the Thunder. So I don't know what coach has prepared, but he better get with his tailor because it's on right now.' Advertisement It's the kind of playful energy that's made Pope an early fan favorite at Kentucky—and this game will carry a little more weight than most. Not only are both teams expected to enter the season ranked, but it's also the first time Pope and Pitino will square off as opposing head coaches. Pitino, now at St. John's, coached Pope during Kentucky's 1996 national title run. St. John's Red Storm head coach Rick Penner-Imagn Images The Red Storm are coming off a 31-5 season and will be replacing UCLA in the CBS Sports Classic field, which also includes Ohio State and North Carolina. But come December 20? It's all about the Wildcats, the Red Storm—and the suits. Related: Duke Suffers Major Recruiting Blow in Elite International Battle

Ohio State basketball finalizing home-and-home deal with ACC opponent

Ohio State basketball finalizing home-and-home deal with ACC opponent The college basketball schedule is nothing like the college football schedule. We often know opponents for Ohio State football years in advance and then just fill in the blanks with the Big Ten schedule. For OSU hoops however, we often get the full details an opponents for its schedule a few months prior to the start of the campaign. On that note, we're starting to hear some of the 2025-2026 schedule take shape. Earlier this week, the CBS Sports Classic announced that the Buckeyes will play against the North Carolina Tar Heels in Atlanta, Georgia for this year's event, and now we have some further news of another opponent. According to multiple reports, Ohio State and Notre Dame are finalizing a home-and-home deal in which the Fighting Irish will come to Columbus this year, with OSU making a return trip next season to South Bend. The Irish aren't nearly the power in football and it won't draw near the same interest as the two matching up on the gridiron, but it's still a quality, non-mid-major opponent that can get the blood boiling and boost a potential NCAA resume. OSU holds a 9-4 all-time record against Notre Dame including a win in the last matchup of the two in 2020 when Ohio State won on the road 90-85. The Fighting Irish didn't have the best season last year, finishing just 15-18, and will be looking for a bounce-back season this winter. If that sounds familiar, it's the same type of year the Buckeyes are looking for as well.
