Delhi CM inaugurates pilot project to shift overhead power cables underground

Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated a pilot project to convert overhead electric wiring to an underground system in Shalimar Bagh in north Delhi. Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta inaugurates Delhi's first pilot project where electricity lines will be laid underground, at BH (East) Block of Shalimar Bagh on Saturday. (@gupta_rekha X) She said that the Delhi government will soon expand this pilot project to other parts of the city. 'The government has allocated a budget of ₹100 crore for undergrounding overhead wires in a phased manner. The underground wiring system will make the electricity supply more reliable, safe, and efficient. The current condition of open and tangled wires affects both the city's beauty and public safety,' Gupta said. In Shalimar Bagh, the project will cost ₹8.07 crore. At least 5km of overhead high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) wires will be removed. Instead 10km of underground LT (440V) and 1.2km of HT (11KV) network will be built. Additionally, 23 new double-source feeder pillar boxes will be installed to enhance reliability of power supply. New GI (galvanised iron) octagonal poles and CCMS (Centralised Control and Monitoring System) switches will also be installed for street lighting. 'Around 5,500 families in the BH Block Janta flats of Shalimar Bagh will benefit from the project, which will also improve the aesthetic landscape of the area,' Gupta added. The pilot project is likely to be completed in three months. The project will ensure uninterrupted 24x7 power supply in all seasons, officials said. Despite repeated announcements by previous governments to underground overhead wiring in Delhi, the project has failed to take off on a large-scale and little visible progress has been made on the ground, leaving large parts of the city with a hazardous web of exposed electrical cables. The delay has been attributed to bureaucratic hurdles, lack of coordination between multiple agencies, and funding constraints. Overhead power cables, visible across Delhi especially in unauthorised neighbourhoods, not only affects aesthetics but also poses serious safety risks, particularly during the monsoon season. Power minister Ashish Sood, who was also present during the launch ceremony on Saturday, said the initiative is a major stride towards transforming Delhi into a wire-free city. CM inaugurates other projects Gupta also reviewed ongoing development works in Shalimar Bagh, which is her assembly constituency. She said that new drains are being constructed in BH (East) Shalimar Bagh at a cost of ₹10 lakh, a new sewer line is being laid in Sahipur village, also estimated at ₹10 lakh, and a new chaupal for Aarogya Mandir has been proposed in Sahipur. Gupta also inaugurated a boundary wall construction project at Kaniska Apartment (C and D blocks), being built at a cost of ₹23.48 lakh.

MOH boosts AI and data analytics in Malaysia healthcare system

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health (MOH) is intensifying efforts to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics into Malaysia's healthcare framework. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasised that these technologies are crucial in addressing modern health challenges such as urbanisation, dual disease burdens, and unequal access to care. Dr Dzulkefly stated, 'AI is not a replacement for humans, but a catalyst for early prevention, efficient resource utilisation and more equitable services.' He highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the deployment of a cloud-based Clinical Clinic Management System (CCMS) in 80 clinics and the adoption of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in 230 clinics and 22 hospitals. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is also actively developing AI models for diseases like COVID-19, diabetic retinopathy, and leprosy. Additionally, the NIH is creating a Trusted Research Environment (TRE), a secure cloud-based analytics platform to facilitate collaborative research. The minister stressed that this digital transformation requires collective effort. 'This transformation cannot be driven by the government alone. It requires the involvement of all, especially researchers, practitioners and policymakers. Together, we can make it a success,' he added. - Bernama

MOH committed to advancing AI, data analytics in healthcare system

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health (MOH) is committed to enhancing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics in the country's healthcare system. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said this was in response to today's public health challenges, including urbanisation, dual disease burdens, and unequal access, which required new, evidence-based and technology-driven approaches. "AI is not a replacement for humans, but a catalyst for early prevention, efficient resource utilisation and more equitable services," he said in a Facebook post yesterday. He said initial steps had already begun, with 80 clinics using a cloud-based Clinical Clinic Management System (CCMS), 230 clinics and 22 hospitals adopting Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) developing AI models for COVID-19, diabetic retinopathy, and leprosy. "Currently, the NIH is developing a Trusted Research Environment (TRE) as a secure and collaborative cloud-based analytics platform. "This transformation cannot be driven by the government alone. Ensure timely Sakala resolution or face salary deductions, Kalaburagi officers told

Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzia Taranum has issued a stern warning to government officers that any delay in resolving applications under the Sakala scheme will result in penalties, including salary deductions, for those responsible. Chairing a progress review meeting at her office in Kalaburagi on Wednesday, Ms. Taranum assessed the status of applications under various public service platforms, including Sakala, IGRS, CM Janaspandana, CCMS and Kalaburagi Connect. She emphasised that the Sakala Services Act 2011 was introduced to ensure timely delivery of services to citizens, guided by the motto: 'No more delays, no excuses — deliver on the promised date'. She reminded officials that Sakala is a flagship initiative of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh and it must be implemented with full seriousness. 'As on date, 328 applications across departments, including 98 pending with the Kalaburagi City Corporation, remain unresolved. The officials concerned must clear all pending applications through their departmental logins and bring the backlog to zero. Under Sakala, applications must be resolved within 30 days. If services are not delivered within this timeframe, disciplinary action will be taken, including halting salary increments,' she said, directing the officials to write to Sakala Mission Directorate in cases where technical issues are causing delays. The Deputy Commissioner also directed Additional Deputy Commissioner Rayappa Hunasagi to issue notices if pending applications under the IGRS platform are not cleared by Friday. She further instructed that the 95 pending applications under the Kalaburagi Connect initiative, a pet project of district in-charge Minister Priyank Kharge, be resolved immediately. Regarding the Court Case Monitoring System (CCMS), she noted that 1,203 cases involving various departments are pending in courts across the district. She directed departments to act swiftly, appoint litigation conducting officers as soon as writ petitions or appeals are filed, consult government advocates and ensure departmental arguments are presented effectively. 'Departments must also act on court verdicts promptly and report compliance to their respective heads,' she added. The meeting was attended by City Corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde, Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu and other senior district-level officials from various departments.
