Security arrangements for Muharram: Two ministers visit key procession routes

LAHORE: On the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, provincial ministers conducted late-night visits to key mourning sites in Lahore to review the ongoing security arrangements for Muharram. Provincial Minister for Sports and Labour Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, along with Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin, Special Assistant to CM Sania Ashiq, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Commissioner Lahore Zaid bin Maqsood, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, and other senior officials, visited Nisar Haveli, Karbala Gamay Shah and Pando Street Imambargah. During the visits, the ministers thoroughly reviewed the security measures in place for the main Ashura procession routes and other significant locations. Police and district administration officials briefed the dignitaries on the overall security plan, deployment of volunteers, CCTV monitoring, security checks at entry and exit points, and contingency planning. Speaking on the occasion, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar issued instructions to ensure comprehensive security on procession routes and to immediately address any potential disruptions caused by rainfall. He emphasized the need for cleanliness, adequate lighting, provision of water, medical camps, and other essential facilities. He assured the organizers of the government's full cooperation and reiterated that maintaining peace and order during Muharram is a top priority for the Punjab government. The organizers expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and praised the inter-agency coordination. Furthermore, Faisal Ayub Khokhar appealed to the public, urging citizens of Lahore to fully cooperate with the police and administration during Muharram and demonstrate responsible citizenship. On this occasion, Bilal Yasin stated that the security has been placed on high alert at all procession routes and sensitive locations. Continuous monitoring is being carried out through CCTV cameras from central control rooms. He added that Section 144 is being strictly enforced and any unauthorized processions or gatherings will not be permitted. The ministers affirmed that, under the guidance of the Punjab government, all relevant departments are working round the clock to ensure a peaceful and dignified observance of Muharram. Listen to article Police have arrested four women involved in a major home burglary in Lahore's Model Town, recovering Rs60 million in cash and stolen items worth an additional Rs30 million, officials said on Monday. The arrests were made under the supervision of DIG Organised Crime Imran Kishwar following directives from CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana. The stolen items include jewellery, mobile phones, luxury watches, perfumes, and foreign currency. The suspects, identified as Sana (wife of Humayun), Anam (wife of Nader Masih), Shahnaz (wife of Javed Masih), and Shaiba (daughter of Humayun), were detained during coordinated raids in Lahore, Kasur, and Multan. Police revealed that Sana and Shahnaz, who worked as domestic helpers, orchestrated the theft with assistance from Anam and Shaiba. Investigations further disclosed that Sana had a prior criminal record. CCPO Kamyana commended the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) team for their swift action, awarding officers with certificates and cash prizes during a special ceremony attended by DIG Imran Kishwar. Award recipients included Inspector Shahid Hussain, Sub-Inspector Badr Zaheer, ASI Nisar Ahmed, and several constables who played a crucial role in the operation. Addressing the public, Kamyana urged citizens to conduct police character verification before hiring domestic workers and to register their details with local police stations. He highlighted Lahore police's ongoing efforts to combat organised crime through a combination of human intelligence and forensic science. 'We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of Lahore's residents,' he said. Missing children found by Karachi police, reunited with family Karachi police successfully reunited two missing children with their parents. The children were reported missing in the Korangi area of Karachi, prompting a call to the Sindh Police Helpline, "Helpline 15." A concerned citizen reported the children's whereabouts, leading to an immediate response from the police. The officers arrived promptly, taking the children into their care and beginning a search to locate their parents. After gathering necessary details, the authorities traced the children's home address and returned them safely to their parents, who expressed their gratitude to the police for their efficient efforts.
