Role of values, culture in innovation stressed
Visakhapatnam: Chairmanof CII Andhra Pradesh Murali Krishna Gannamani said values and culture are invisible forces that drive behaviour, spark innovation, and ensure resilience, making them indispensable for building enduring institutions. Speaking at the third CII Andhra Pradesh HR conclave that focused on the theme 'building value and institution through values and culture' in Visakhapatnam on Friday, he said the modern workforce is diverse, dynamic and increasingly hybrid and presents unique challenges and opportunities. According to the World Economic Forum's 2024 future of jobs report, 68 percent of global employers identify cultural alignment as a critical driver of talent retention and organisational agility, he noted. Founder and chief strategist of The Strategist K Srinivas Rao spoke on how to manage value and fine-tune global code to the local code of business, changing tenured employees to value champions. Briefing about the theme of the conclave, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, EPFO Amardeep Mishra emphasised the significance of values, culture, and ethics within organisations. Deputy Director in-charge, ESIC SK Sahoo explained details of the SPREE (Scheme for Promoting Registration of Employers and Employees) initiative. Chief operating officer, Oasis Fertility redefined the role of organisational culture for India's growth. He mentioned that culture is a standard to be upheld daily across all levels of the organisation. Director, People and Culture, Warner Bros, Discovery Prem J emphasised that organisational culture must be considered as a core business asset. A report on 'building value and institution through values and culture' was unveiled on the occasion.

AP is in tprocess of formulating a recycling policy
Visakhapatnam: AndhraPradesh is in the process of formulating a state-level recycling policy, backed by incentives, to promote entrepreneurship, said chairman of Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board P Krishnaiah. Speaking at a conference on 'industrial pollution control' organised by CII Andhra Pradesh in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board in Visakhapatnam on Friday, Krishnaiah recalled his experience at the recent expo observing that recyclable industrial waste in South India has been under-utilised compared to the western states. He highlighted the need to embrace a circular economy in minimising waste and recycling. Drawing real-world examples, Dr Krishnaiah emphasised the role of standard operating procedures, daily safety drills, and visible leadership commitment in preventing industrial accidents. 'Safety and environment should come first or second in your progress reviews, not last. Green technologies are no longer optional but essential. Industries have to invest in research, upskill their workforce, and adopt the latest clean technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions as technology is the only long-term solution to mitigate pollution,' he asserted. The conference brought key stakeholders from industry, academia and regulatory bodies to deliberate on sustainable industrial practices, environmental compliance, and policy collaboration. Further, Krishnaiah called on industries to view waste as a resource, citing examples like a textile plant in Ongole that recycles even salt residues. He emphasised the need to reduce plastic use and promote affordable bio-plastic alternatives. In order to drive innovation and environmental excellence, Krishnaiah proposed forming a CII-led Industrial Technology Forum supported by seed funding from the AP Pollution Control Board to drive innovation and environmental excellence. Highlighting the increased sensitivity of global investors towards ESG compliance, chairman of CII AP G Murali Krishna emphasised that future industrial growth hinges on adopting zero liquid discharge systems, real-time environmental monitoring, and robust safety protocols. He called for integrating green standards into core business strategies to align with global expectations on pollution control and clean energy. President and unit head, Grasim Industries Ltd BB Puram S Narasimha Sastry underscored the need to minimise, mitigate, and move forward to achieve global competence in pollution control. Head of the department of environmental science engineering and management, Andhra University Prof S Bala Prasad spoke about the evolving landscape of wastewater management.

CII meet stresses maritime development in Andhra Predesh
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Visakhapatnam organised a Ports and Logistics Conference on Friday, focusing on unlocking the State's port potential, improving last-mile connectivity, and promoting multimodal logistics integration. Participating in the programme, Minister for Roads & Buildings, Infrastructure & Investments B.C Janardhan Reddy said that Andhra Pradesh's ports contribute over 5% of the State's GSDP and support nearly one million jobs. Visakhapatnam Port alone handled 82.62 million tonnes in FY 2024–25, while Krishnapatnam Port and Gangavaram Port together handled over 54 million tonnes. He noted that the government was investing over ₹20,000 crore to improve connectivity through 1,040 km of new highways and major corridors such as Badvel-Nellore and the VCIC railway line. He spoke about the development of logistics parks, warehousing, and cold chains to modernise supply networks and reduce logistics costs from 15.7% to 7%–8%. He emphasised the strategic importance of the ₹26,000 crore Dugarajapatnam shipbuilding cluster in Nellore, which is expected to generate 35,000 jobs and attract large-scale manufacturing investments. Industrial corridors D. Satyanarayana, Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board, said that six operational ports and three new greenfield ports at Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam, and Bhavanapadu were being developed not in isolation, but as part of integrated logistics and industrial corridors, fully connected through road, rail, and multimodal networks. The State is also promoting multimodal logistics parks at Kakinada and Visakhapatnam, and connecting industrial zones in Krishna, Guntur, and Anantapur to coastal gateways. M. Angamuthu, Chairperson, Visakhapatnam Port Authority, noted that most major ports in the State were currently operating at 50% capacity, indicating significant untapped potential. To fully realise this, he stressed the need to develop the entire maritime value chain, including skilling, logistics, shipbuilding, and allied industries, alongside core port infrastructure. G. Murali Krishna, Chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh, emphasised the urgent need to modernise coastal infrastructure, develop smart ports, and position Andhra Pradesh as a globally competitive and climate-resilient logistics hub. D.V.S. Narayana Raju, Chairman, CII Visakhapatnam, said Andhra Pradesh is now among the top three cargo handling States in India, with non-major ports handling over 117 MMTPA of EXIM cargo. G. Sambasiva Rao, Convenor, Ports & Logistics Panel, CII Andhra Pradesh, stressed that completing key corridors like the 12-lane Sheela Nagar-Anakapalli road would support faster cargo movement and time-sensitive exports.

Minister Srinivas launches new entrepreneurship drive
Tirupati: In a major push to foster entrepreneurship and accelerate MSME development, Minister for MSME, SERP, and NRI Empowerment & Relations, Kondapalli Srinivas launched the project 'Abhivrudhi Padham lo Swarna Andhra Pradesh Nuthana Prayanam' in Tirupati on Saturday. The minister also inaugurated the CII Andhra Pradesh Entrepreneurs Development Forum and the CII Tirupati Entrepreneurs Development Forum, aiming to create a robust support ecosystem for entrepreneurs in the region. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the state government's flagship initiative, 'One Family, One Entrepreneur', which envisions cultivating a culture of entrepreneurship in every household. He emphasised that this mission is crucial for the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are seen as key drivers of self-reliance, innovation, and employment generation. To sustain Andhra Pradesh's ambitious economic targets including an annual growth rate exceeding 15 percent and a $2.4 trillion economy under 'Swarna Andhra@2047', Minister Srinivas reiterated the Chief Minister's call for the establishment of at least one MSME park in each constituency. These parks will feature plug-and-play infrastructure, including roads, power, training facilities, and subsidised costs, aimed at reducing initial capital burdens for new enterprises. Tirupati District Collector Dr S Venkateswar noted that districts such as Tirupati, Anakapalli, and Visakhapatnam stand out for their dynamic MSME sectors. Tirupati alone boasts over 15,000 MSMEs generating more than 2.5 lakh jobs—surpassing employment figures in the district's large-scale industries. He also revealed that the MSME sector in Tirupati is growing at an impressive rate of 18 percent. Vice Chairman of CII Andhra Pradesh, S. Narendra Kumar stressed the national need to create 7.85 million non-farm jobs annually by 2030. He underscored the role of microenterprises as the engine of job growth in dynamic economies and said that the state's emphasis on mass entrepreneurship aligns closely with India's employment objectives. Past Chairman of CII Andhra Pradesh Vijay Naidu Galla, and Vice Chairman of CII Tirupati SP Rajendran also spoke.
