CITCO plans to boost online room bookings to compete with private hotels

In a move aimed at enhancing competitiveness with private hotel chains and increasing guest bookings, the Chandigarh Industrial Tourism and Development Corporation (CITCO) is set to ramp up its online room reservation system for its three flagship hotels—Hotel Mountview in Sector 10, Hotel Shivalikview in Sector 17, and Hotel Parkview in Sector 24. As part of the plan, the agency will integrate the web booking engine with CITCO's existing IDS software, enabling real-time room reservations via CITCO's official website for all three properties. (HT File) The proposal will be placed before the CITCO Board of Directors in its upcoming meeting scheduled for July 1. The Board is expected to finalise the appointment of an agency that will manage the web booking engine, channel manager, and revenue management system for all three hotels. According to officials, the selected agency will be responsible for ensuring a seamless and error-free online reservation experience. The contract will be valid for three years, with a provision for a two-year extension at the same rate, subject to satisfactory performance. The total estimated cost of the contract is approximately ₹ 17 lakh for the initial three-year term. As part of the plan, the agency will integrate the web booking engine with CITCO's existing IDS software, enabling real-time room reservations via CITCO's official website for all three properties. The integration is expected to streamline the booking process and improve customer experience. The initiative comes in response to growing concerns about CITCO's declining hotel occupancy rates and resulting revenue losses. Despite a proposal made during a Board meeting in November last year to formulate a new marketing policy to compete with private players, no tangible progress had been made in the past eight months. During that meeting, board members expressed concern over the corporation's dwindling bookings and emphasized the need for strategic changes. CITCO officials who visited Kerala to study its successful tourism policies presented their findings, prompting the board to adopt a more competitive marketing approach. The board also resolved to focus on improving guest satisfaction by upgrading hotel services and taking into account guest feedback and social media ratings. It was suggested that the sales team should be empowered to manage rate distribution and apply discounts based on seasonal demand trends instead of relying on past pricing patterns. CITCO's renewed focus on digital integration and market competitiveness is expected to help the corporation regain its foothold in the city's hospitality sector.

CITCO petrol pumps record increased profit

Chandigarh: CITCO petrol pumps have recorded a significant profit of Rs 1,747.68 lakh during the financial year 2024–25, with total sales of Rs 68,386.01 lakh. The profit increased from Rs 1,176.99 lakh in financial year 2022-23 to Rs 1,527.60 lakh in the financial year 2023-24, showing a growth of Rs 350.61 lakh. "This increase in profit indicates a positive trend in the company's performance. The company's expansion, including the start of three new petrol pumps since 2021, contributed to this considerable increase in profits. This impressive growth is the outcome of a series of strategic and customer-focused initiatives undertaken by CITCO," said a CITCO spokesperson. "One of the key milestones was the introduction of a CNG facility at the Dhanas petrol pump in July 2024, offering an eco-friendly fuel alternative to meet the growing demand for cleaner energy. Additionally, the modernisation of the CITCO petrol pump in Sector 56 further improved customer service, operational efficiency, and overall user experience," the spokesperson added. To cater to an expanding customer base, CITCO is now extending its petrol pump in Industrial Area Phase-I, which will feature state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the fuelling experience. Further, CITCO, in association with IOCL, has entered into an understanding with Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) to supply diesel directly into CTU depots, which will further boost the sales and profits of CITCO in the coming days. Efforts are also being made to install EV charging stations across the CITCO petrol stations in the coming days.

Srishti Sharma of Panchkula scores 100% marks in Class X, tops district

Written by Serena Gujral This date, May 13, 2025, will be etched in the heart and mind of Srishti Sharma, a student of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15, Panchkula, who has secured 100 per cent marks in the CBSE Class X Board Examination. The district topper is beaming with joy, and still can't quite believe her perfect performance. 'I met my class teacher at the school in the morning, and I was so scared that I wanted to run away,' smiles the topper, daughter of Rajeev Sharma, an employee with CITCO. What followed was her teacher's joyous cheer that she had scored a perfect score, and a round of hugs and happy tears. Despite being a high-achieving all-rounder, Srishti was anxious, never expecting to top. Her only goal was to give it her best shot, which she did. Preparing for her subjects, she made sure to cover her school books thoroughly and not take anything lightly. 'I did not attend any tuition classes. What worked for me was self-study with the guidance of my teachers. I understood that it is important to cover every part of the syllabus, down to the last word.' She didn't follow a strict timetable but instead went with the flow, studying nearly 20 hours a day during her pre-board study leave. Studying, for her, is not just a schoolwork requirement but a passion, or even a hobby, like an art. Her artwork, however, had to take a backseat during preparation time. Her advice to the upcoming batch is simple yet powerful: 'Give it your best, don't stress too much, believe in God, and learn to manage your time well.' She recommends using a planner or to-do list to ensure the goals one sets get done, giving adequate time to each subject, and never neglecting any of the less important ones. She emphasised the importance of covering NCERT thoroughly, making notes, doing the activities, and reading even the smallest details. While she acknowledges that pressure from parents and teachers can be intense, she believes it comes from a place of love and a desire to see their children succeed. Her dream is to study engineering at IIT, Bombay, explore the world, and never stop learning. Srishti plans to celebrate her achievement for the next 2-3 days, before focusing once more on her Class XI studies, because she doesn't want to lose sight of the bigger picture. 'It is important to stay focused in life and have goals, as they motivate you to be even better,' exclaims Srishti with a smile. A close second from Panchkula is Yashasvi Bhav, a Class X student of Hansarj Public School, Sector 6, scoring 499 out of 500 marks — 99.8 per cent. A consistent and goal-oriented outlook makes Yashasvi a winner. Amisha Prakash, a Class X student at Delhi Public School, Sector 40, Chandigarh, also made her school and family proud with 99.8 per cent marks. Her father Dheeraj Prakash is a general manager with Maruti Suzuki, and her mother Priyanka is a homemaker. Amisha says unit tests prepared her for the boards and has also been attending FIITJEE classes. She wants to be a computer science engineer. Painting and playing badminton are her stress busters. Class 10 CBSE results: Srishti from Panchkula nails a perfect 100%

Right after her 16th birthday celebrations on Monday, Srishti Sharma had even more reason to celebrate on Tuesday as she scored an impressive 100% in the CBSE Class 10 exams. A student of Bhavan Vidyalaya in Sector 15, Panchkula, Srishti lost one mark in the social science subject. But given the CBSE's 'Best of Five' rule in Class 10, where the marks of the five best-performing subjects are considered when calculating the overall percentage, she achieved a perfect 100%. 'I already knew where I had gone wrong. It was a multiple-choice question and I made a silly mistake. I was bawling after returning home,' she said. Interestingly, she had opted for Punjabi as the optional third language. While many students don't study too hard for the third language, as they just need to clear it, she studied Punjabi avidly and got full marks in it. Srishti said she did not take any tuitions and her success was the result of self-study, dedicating an astounding 17 to 18 hours a day, and her teachers' efforts. School principal Gulshan Kaur was all praises for the student. Her father, Rajiv Sharma, works with CITCO in Chandigarh and her mother, Aasha Sharma, is a housewife. She has now opted for non-medical, with plans to pursue computer science engineering from IIT Bombay. Two students from the tricity — Amisha Parkash of Delhi Public School, Sector 40, Chandigarh, and Yashasvi Bhav of Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, Panchkula — secured a remarkable 99.8%. Gurnoor Singh of St Joseph's Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, achieved 99.6%. His father, Wattandeep Singh, is a manager at Cheema Broilers in Mohali and mother Deepika Kamboj is a housewife. In Mohali, Harshvir Singh of Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Sector 69, also bagged 99.6%.
