Police officer, 38, who died suddenly on duty is pictured as tributes pour in

Pc Ian Minett, aged 38, died last month while on duty with Gloucestershire Police, and has been described as a 'massive loss' by his colleagues as tributes pour in The police community is mourning the loss of an officer who tragically collapsed and died while on duty last month. At just 38 years old, Pc Ian Minett, was serving with Gloucestershire Police during a night shift when he suddenly passed away. Having rejoined the force in 2022, he had previously dedicated 13 years as a special constable. ‌ His family released a heartfelt statement: "He was working as a Cheltenham and Tewkesbury local policing constable when he tragically and suddenly passed away, despite the gallant efforts of his colleagues on B shift nights and the ambulance paramedics,". ‌ They expressed immense pride in his service: "We, as Ian's parents, and family, are all very proud of his achievements within the police force." Finding solace in his dedication, they said: "We take consolation in the fact that Ian died performing the job he loved, in the town he loved, and that he was well loved and respected by all who knew him and worked with him." The family honoured their son: "Ian, we were privileged to have had you as our son, and we will keep your memories alive in our hearts and minds forever." They concluded with a poignant tribute: "Pc 255080 we salute you." Pc Minett's career began as a special constable with Gloucestershire Police in 2006, followed by a stint as a call handler for Thames Valley Police. He later became a full-time officer with the Ministry of Defence before returning to Gloucestershire Police three years prior to his untimely death. ‌ Adam Williams, chairman of Gloucestershire Police Federation, previously stated: "I was lucky enough to work with Ian and he was well liked amongst all that had the pleasure of working alongside him and getting to know him. "It is a massive loss to the shift, the station, and to the Constabulary as a whole." Charities like Care of Police Survivors (COPS) and the Police Memorial Trust support the families of police officers who die on duty. COPS provides vital support to bereaved families. The Police Memorial Trust maintains a Roll of Honour of officers killed in the line of duty and provides information and support to the public and related organizations. Letby's barrister Mark McDonald moaned that police didn't 'have the courtesy' to tell them it was handing a new file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service. The 35-year-old from Herefordshire was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill seven others while working at the Countess of Chester in 2015 and 2016. She is serving 15 whole-life orders and is Britain's most prolific child killer. The Crown Prosecution Service said it had received "a full file of evidence from Cheshire Constabulary" askingthe force to consider further allegations. These are "in relation to deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women's Hospital". This comes after three people - who were in senior leadership roles at the Countess of Chester Hospital - were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter as part of an investigation into the baby deaths. But Mr McDonald told the Telegraph that the police didn't tell Letby's legal team about the new file. He claimed this forced her to find out through "gossip". 'One could be cynical and say that the police are afraid of what will happen when Lucy's conviction is overturned. 'We will cross every bridge when we get to it, but if Lucy is charged I know we have a whole army of internationally renowned medical experts who will totally undermine the prosecution's unfounded allegations.' In a statement, a spokesman for the CPS said: "We will now carefully consider the evidence to determine whether any further criminal charges should be brought. "As always, we will make that decision independently, based on the evidence and in line with our legal test." A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police confirmed the force had submitted "a full file of evidence to the CPS for charging advice regarding the ongoing investigation". Investigators are looking into the deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at the neo-natal units of both hospitals as part of Operation Hummingbird. This process to determine whether Letby will face further charges is expected to take several weeks and involve consultation with many of Britain's most senior legal brains. On top of the recent arrests for suspected gross negligence manslaughter, there is also an ongoing investigation into corporate manslaughter at the Countess of Chester Hospital. All three ex-bosses arrested have been bailed, with their identities not yet being released by police. Cops also added that these arrests do not have any impact on the killer nurse's convictions. Letby's barrister Mr McDonald added that the police's latest announcement came at a "very sensitive time" and that a proper and full public inquiry into failings by the hospital is needed.
