Zim talent set to join PSL club after impressing at COSAFA
Zimbabwean highly rated striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya is reportedly closing in on a dream move to South Africa's Betway Premiership. Ngwenya currently plays for FC Platinum in Zimbabwe's Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. As reported by H-Metro , Zimbabwean agent Gibson Mahachi recently confirmed that Ngwenya is on the verge of joining a South African club. 'I can confirm negotiations at an advanced stage with one of the PSL Clubs. An agreement likely to be reached any day from now,' Mahachi said. After turning heads during this year's COSAFA Cup, Ngwenya has now agreed terms with the Betway Premiership outfit, according to sources familiar with the deal. Amazulu FC have won the race for Ngwenya, who will join the South African outfit on a two-year contract, according to reports. Ngwenya's performances at the 2025 COSAFA Cup turned heads, with two goals and a spot in the team of the round attracting interest from several clubs. Local powerhouse Scottland reportedly offered a lucrative package, but Usuthu won the race. FC Platinum star will make his final appearance for the Zvishavane side this Saturday against Simba Bhora. BIG blow: Kaizer Chiefs to miss out on Bafana Bafana youngster!
Kaizer Chiefs are on the verge of missing out on a free transfer for a Bafana Bafana youngster this window. Chiefs were rumoured to be finalising a deal to sign SuperSport United defender Ime Okon on a free transfer. Okon is set to be a free agent in a week's time, this after the conclusion of his contract with SuperSport. Having recently played for Bafana in the COSAFA Cup, rumours swirled that he was signing for Chiefs . Then more reports came out of arch rivals Orlando Pirates also joining the race for his signature. Now that he is done with international duty, the player and his camp are finalising his future. According to iDiski Times , his future doesn't lie with either Chiefs or Pirates. According to the publication, Okon is on his way to Germany to conclude a deal with an unnamed side. 'SuperSport United defender Ime Okon is on the verge of joining an unnamed German side on a free transfer. Okon has been heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs in the past few weeks with the 21-year-old centre-back having been impressive since making his debut for Matsatsantsa in August 2023. This publication has it in good authority that an unnamed German side is on the verge of agreeing personal terms with Okon and will sign him on a free transfer. Should Okon's camp reach an agreement with the German side, he will fly over for medicals.' Wrote the publication. It now remains to be seen which German club he will be signing for and at which level do they ply their trade. Okon was rumoured to be on the verge of joining a Ukrainian side in Dynamo Kyiv just in January. It now seems that his destiny is abroad, a big blow to Chiefs if they, indeed, tried to sign him. Chiefs fans will it hurt to see Okon move elsewhere and miss out on him for free? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Kaizer Chiefs news: Duba missing from training, Saleng latest
Wandile Duba was one of four players missing from Kaizer Chiefs' first training session back after the 2024/25 season concluded due to partaking in the COSAFA Cup. The additional talent who didn't feature are Mduduzi Shabalala, Bruce Bvuma and Aden McCarthy. The club granted them additional leave in order to recover properly before boarding the plane to Europe, where they will take on Dutch giants FC Utrecht. Earlier in the month, it was reported that Monnapule Saleng had signed a pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs. However, this seems to be more myth than fact, with neither party confirming the news. AmaKhosi have several attackers in their sights, including Orlando Pirates target Laurindo Depu Aurelio. 'What I can tell you is that both teams had their scouts there. The scouts were all happy with what they saw in Depu and they enquired about him,' a source confirmed. 'Apparently Kaizer Chiefs wanted their defender Inacio Miguel to help them talk to the player and his representatives. And Orlando Pirates also believed to be willing to talk to the player. They have their different reasons but apparently the scouts from both clubs are happy with what they saw.' A second source confirmed the rumour, saying, 'Apparently Chiefs don't want to dwell much on Feisal Salum if the price is still that high and will now consider Depu.' 'But the problem is Depu is now based in Portugal and it could also be another challenge. However it's believed that they want to use Inacio Miguel to bring Depu to Naturena. So let's wait and see.' Orlando Pirates news: Rulani, Moremi, Kwayiba, Tau
Orlando Pirates are reportedly looking to bring back Rulani Mokwena as their head coach next season. The 38-year-old parted ways with Wydad Casablanca in May and is currently a free agent. With the departure of Jose Riveiro, the Buccaneers are in search of a new coach before their pre-season training resumes. According to iDiski Times , talks between Mokwena and Pirates have reached an advanced stage, but 'some finer details still need to be ironed out'. The publication said that Rulani wanted Michael Loftman as his assistant coach, however Orlando Pirates were keen on keeping Mandla Ncikazi as part of the technical team. The Buccaneers have already released four players since the conclusion of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. Although they are yet to make any announcement, it is believed that Sinoxolo Kwayiba will be a Bucs player next season. The Bafana Bafana midfielder did indicate that he would love to leave Chippa United for a big club. 'Let's hope [that I'll join a big club], I have been praying and I'm happy with my performance for Bafana Bafana,' Kwayiba said during the COSAFA Cup. 'I want to do more, and I hope the move is going to happen. So I'm hoping to play for a big team and then move overseas. That's my dream, and it's going to happen. 'I won't mention any name of the team for now, but I want to play for one of the big three,' he added. Another player linked with Orlando Pirates is Tshepang Moremi. The talented winger recently left AmaZulu but the Buccaneers are yet to confirm if they indeed signed the player. Tau is now a free agent having left Qatar after a short stint. He did admit that he would like to play for Orlando Pirates or any of the big teams if the right offer comes. With Rulani potentially joining the Buccaneers, maybe Tau might be tempted. Kaizer Chiefs news: Four players missing, Mbule talks heat up
Kaizer Chiefs returned to training on January 20, but were without Mduduzi Shabalala, Bruce Bvuma, Wandile Duba, and Aden McCarthy, who were granted additional leave having participated in the COSAFA Cup. Each player is expected to board the plane to Europe for pre-season. AmaKhosi's chances of signing free agent Sipho Mbule are still a possibility. The former Mamelodi Sundowns outfielder has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs by agent Mike Makaab, but the club have yet to make a decision. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are tussling to sign SuperSport United's youngster Neo Rapoo. 'Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,' an inside source revealed. 'His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.' 'With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.'
