Mercury drops after showers, commuters face traffic jams
1 2 Kanpur: The mercury dipped in Kanpur as the city received widespread moderate to heavy rains since the morning. The intermittent showers continued till evening and resulted in pleasant climatic conditions. However, residents faced problems moving inside the city due to water-logging at several locations. In fact, the city experienced rains since Thursday evening and, since Friday morning, the intermittent showers disturbed the normal traffic of the city. The residents witnessed dark clouds in the sky since 7 am, and it appeared that they would shower heavily. There was a heavy shower in some areas but the duration was not long. However, it was sufficient to cause water logging on the roads and the overflowing of drains. Drains overflowed onto roads as they were choked at the discharge end. The weather experts had predicted light to moderate rains in the city earlier. According to S Sunil Pandey, weather scientist at CSA University, the mercury dropped around 4 degrees below normal as the maximum temperature recorded in the evening was 32 degrees. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Lifetime Office 365 Download Undo The minimum temperature was recorded as 26 degrees, which was also one degree below normal. Light drizzle brings brief relief in Kanpur, humidity soars again
Kanpur: Residents of central Kanpur experienced brief relief from the scorching heat on Saturday evening as light drizzles dampened roads and courtyards. However, the respite was short-lived as increased cloud cover by night led to a sharp rise in humidity, bringing back discomfort. The maximum temperature in the city reached 42.9°C — 5.1 degrees above normal — while relative humidity touched 69%, making the heat feel more intense, with a perceived temperature of around 45–46°C. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and S. Sunil Pandey, a weather scientist at CSA University, the months of May and June are traditionally associated with dry heat and heatwaves, primarily driven by northwesterly winds. However, this year, the situation has been aggravated by easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, which are carrying high humidity levels and turning the atmosphere muggy. "These winds are creating vapour-laden conditions that trap heat, making it feel much hotter than it is," said Pandey. He added that nighttime temperatures are also remaining above normal, offering little relief even after sunset. The IMD has forecast a possibility of light rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, between June 16 and 18. A slight drop in temperature is expected due to light cloud cover in the coming days. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Relief from intense heat expected soon
Kanpur: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that citizens may get relief from the current heat wave from June 14 as seasonal climatic changes will become active in the state. Though the arrival of high clouds would reduce the temperature, humid heat is likely to persist due to the arrival of humid winds. The radiative heating has increased and due to this extensive increase during the last few days, the temperature in most places in the state has remained much above normal, the IMD indicated. According to S Sunil Pandey, weather scientist at CSA University, there is no possibility of any major change during the next couple of days. As a result, the heat wave and hot night conditions prevailing in western UP are likely to continue till June 13. However, due to light clouds in the next five days, there is a possibility of drizzle/light rain locally along with strong winds, thunderstorms between June 14-15. The city on Wednesday recorded maximum temperature as 41.9 degree Celsius. tnn
