Sri Lanka shares gain for third straight week, shake off Trump's 30% tariff
Sri Lankan shares logged their third straight week of advances on Friday, shrugging off news that U.S. President Donald Trump's 30% tariff is set to come into effect on August 1 and buoyed by hopes that trade talks between the nations would continue. The CSE All Share index settled up 2.09% at 18541.26, helped by gains across the board. Trading resumed on Friday after a local holiday on Thursday. On Thursday, Sri Lanka's finance secretary said representatives of the island country will continue discussions with Washington, hours after Trump slapped a 30% tariff on the country - lower than 44% imposed earlier. Industrial Asphalts Ceylon and Sathosa Motors were the top two percentage gainers on the CSE All-Share on Friday, rising 33.33% and 24.98% respectively. Trading volume on the CSE All-Share index climbed to 304.2 million shares from 176.6 million in the previous session. Real estate, consumer discretionary stocks lift Sri Lanka shares The equity market's turnover jumped to 10.23 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($33.92 million) from 5.98 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data. Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 1.32 billion rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 10.13 billion rupees, the data showed.

Sri Lankan shares close higher on broad-based gains
Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Friday, lifted by gains across multiple sectors. The CSE All-Share index rose about 0.3% to 18,148.34, and ended the week 1.5% higher. Conglomerate John Keells Holdings and LOLC Finance were the biggest boosts to the CSE All-Share index. Trading volume declined to 156.1 million shares from 198.2 million in the previous session. Utilities, communication services stocks drag Sri Lankan shares The equity market's turnover rose to 6.76 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($22.5 million), compared with 5.47 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data. Foreign investors were net buyers in the equity market of stocks worth 1.16 billion rupees, while domestic investors were net sellers of shares worth 5.62 billion rupees, data showed.

Utilities, communication services stocks drag Sri Lankan shares
Sri Lankan shares slipped on Thursday as losses in utilities and communication services stocks weighed. The CSE All-Share index settled 0.23% lower at 18,100.92 points. Colombo Dockyard and UB Finance were top percentage losers on the CSE All-Share index, down 18.1% and 16.7%, respectively. IT, healthcare stocks drag Sri Lankan shares lower
Sri Lankan shares ended lower on Tuesday, snapping five straight sessions of gains, as losses in IT and healthcare stocks weighed. The CSE All-Share index settled 0.17% lower at 17,996.73. It gained 7.5% in the last five sessions. Ceylon Printers and Arpico Insurance were top percentage gainers on the CSE All-Share index, up nearly 9% each. Trading volume on the index surged to 679.2 million shares from 257.3 million in the previous session. Sri Lankan shares log best weekly gain since Dec
COLOMBO: Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Friday, as gains in consumer discretionary and materials stocks outweighed losses in healthcare and IT. The CSE All-Share index settled up 0.75% at 17,872.7, rising for the fourth straight session. It gained 4.6% during the week, its biggest weekly gain since Dec. 27, 2024. SMB Finance PLC and Sathosa Motors PLC were the top percentage gainers on the CSE All-Share index, rising 14.3% and 11.3%, respectively. Trading volume on the index fell to 295.1 million shares from 427 million in the previous session. The equity market's turnover fell to 5.14 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($17.08 million) from 6.85 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data. Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 570.4 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 5 billion rupees, the data showed.
