Blue Line service to be interrupted over weekend for routine maintenance
Blue Line service will be interrupted over the June 28-29 weekend for routine maintenance. The Blue Line will be closed between 69 Street and Downtown West/Kerby this weekend for routine maintenance. Shuttle buses will replace CTrains and run every five minutes between stations, with a separate shuttle between Kerby and Sunalta. The city said on its website that it's using the downtime to inspect and do maintenance on tunnels, station repair work, cleaning and inspection, roof repairs at Shaganappi Point, electrical work, and other things as well. Full CTrain service will be back up and running early Monday, June 30. For more information, go here.

Calgary transit driver charged in pedestrian collision
Calgary police have announced a CTrain driver has been charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm following a collision involving a pedestrian. Officers were called out around 8:15 a.m. on April 17 to the Banff Trail station, located at 2374 Banff Trail N.W. for reports of an 11-year-old child being struck by a CTrain. The child was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver was taken into custody. Police didn't say why the driver was taken into custody, but investigators believe the pedestrian was crossing at a marked crosswalk as the train entered the station heading northbound. Calgary police say charges laid after 11-year-old boy hit by transit train
CALGARY – Calgary police say charges have been laid after an 11-year-old boy was hit earlier this year by a light-rail train car. Officers say the boy was walking in a marked crosswalk at Banff Trail Station in mid-April when the CTrain entered the station. The pedestrian barriers weren't down, and the train struck the boy, who was treated in hospital for life-threatening injuries. They also said the driver of the train was arrested. Police say the 60-year-old train operator has since been charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm. They say he is scheduled to appear in court in September. The collision happened at the Banff Trail Station on Thursday, April 17 at 8:15 a.m. Police say the CTrain hit the youth while travelling north into the station. He was crossing in a marked crosswalk at the time and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Gordon Steve Ferdinands, 60, is charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 3. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Article content The annual Rotary International Convention is returning to Calgary for the first time in nearly 30 years, taking place at the BMO Centre from Saturday to Wednesday. Article content Article content More than 15,000 Rotary members and participants from more than 120 countries will unite to celebrate humanitarian service, cultural exchange and global peacebuilding. Article content Article content As Rotary members take in the city, Calgarians should expect a vibrant wave of visitors in traditional dress exploring the city centre. Article content Article content To accommodate the event, CTrain service will be increased for the length of the convention, running every seven minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes outside of peak hours. Article content Calgarians can also expect heavier traffic downtown, at Calgary International Airport and along the city's key routes. Article content To mark the occasion, the Calgary Tower will glow red and yellow on Saturday and Sunday to honour Rotary's fight to eradicate polio worldwide. Article content Then, the tower will be blue and gold from Monday to Wednesday in honour of the organization's broader mission to promote health, peace and prosperity.
