Pradhan lays foundation for Rs 480 crore Net Zero campus of CUO at Koraput
JEYPORE: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid foundation stones for a slew of infrastructure projects worth Rs 480 crore at Central University of Odisha (CUO)'s Sunabeda campus in Koraput district on Saturday. The new infrastructure projects for which foundation was laid seek to build a Net Zero Campus which is environmentally sustainable, technologically advanced, and socially inclusive. The proposed project includes multi-storey academic blocks, 10 modern hostel buildings, a grand auditorium, a gymnasium and indoor sports complex. Besides, shopping centres, fully equipped health centre, and an international guest house will also be built. Designed with green building standards, renewable energy systems, and climate-resilient infrastructure, the Net Zero Campus will significantly reduce the university's carbon footprint while enhancing quality of life for students and faculty. The Minister also inaugurated newly completed facilities of the university, including the academic building, health centre, vice-chancellor's residence, officers' quarters, and staff quarters worth about Rs 130 crore. The minister witnessed MoU signing among six universities - CUO Koraput, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur, and Shri Sadashiva Campus of the Central Sanskrit University, Puri.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 480 crore aimed at boosting the infrastructural development of the Central University of Odisha (CUO) in Koraput district. The ceremony was also graced by Odisha Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, and Koraput MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka and Vice Chancellors of the various Universities. At the event, six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between leading educational institutions. Pradhan visits HAL facility in Koraput, CUO
1 2 Koraput: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan began his two-day visit to Koraput district on Saturday with a visit to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) engine and component manufacturing unit at Sunabeda. Emphasising its strategic importance in national defence, Pradhan called for development of a HAL-based MSME cluster to spur employment and entrepreneurship in the region. He urged HAL to collaborate with IIT Madras and Central University of Odisha (CUO) to offer diploma and undergraduate programmes in aerospace, defenc, and related sectors. "The objective is to develop a skilled workforce with domain expertise and promote innovation from the school level," he said. Pradhan also advised establishment of HAL-sponsored STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) laboratories in schools across Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts. "The laboratories would provide early exposure to scientific disciplines and lay the groundwork for future careers in technology," he said. To elevate the university to global standards, an MoU was signed between six centrally funded higher education institutes in Odisha — CUO, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIM Sambalpur, NIT Rourkela, IISER Berhampur and National Sanskrit University, Puri. Updating the status of academic staff, Pradhan said 70 posts have recently been filled and CUO aims to fill at least 130 out of sanctioned 153 teaching positions in the next year. He also announced that CUO will introduce new diploma and undergraduate courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning and agri-business from the next academic year.
