Saudi Arabia Approves New Regulations for Industrial Activities Outside Designated Zones
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources has approved a set of new requirements and regulations to govern industrial activities operating outside officially designated industrial areas. The move is part of the Kingdom's broader efforts to organize the industrial sector, attract investment, and support sustainable development in line with national priorities. The announcement follows the work of a central committee formed by Cabinet Decision No. 533. Chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the committee brought together representatives from seven other government bodies to assess and address the situation of factories located beyond allocated industrial lands. Based on the committee's findings, 1,143 types of industrial activities were classified by their level of environmental impact. Among them, 46 low-impact industrial activities were identified as suitable to be practiced within cities along commercial streets, according to a statement issued by the ministry. For other activities with a higher potential impact, the regulations specify that they may be conducted on the outskirts of urban areas, provided companies comply with all licensing requirements. These include securing industrial, environmental, municipal, and safety permits, as well as fulfilling any additional conditions necessary for legal operation. The ministry noted that these new controls and standards are designed to stimulate further industrial investment across Saudi Arabia and lay the foundation for developing competitive domestic industries. The regulations also aim to create more high-quality job opportunities, empower women to play a larger role in the industrial sector, and drive wider social and economic progress.

India to fast-track 52 military satellites for better surveillance at borders
After defence forces realised the need for more precision surveillance during Operation Sindoor, the Union government has ordered the fast-tracking of the launch of 52 dedicated surveillance satellites, enhancing round-the-clock monitoring of coastline and land borders. In October last year, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet Committee approved $3.2 billion for the SBS-III programme to develop next-generation satellites over the next decade. Under the programme, ISRO will manufacture and launch the first 21 satellites, while private companies will handle the remaining 31. The Defence Space Agency (DSA) will oversee the operation of the newly launched satellite system. 'We have asked the private companies and ISRO for early launch of satellites. These new satellites will add a next-generation radar imaging capability that will help in all-weather and day-night surveillance. We are expecting first set of satellites to be launched by 2026,' said a senior official. The official added that the new satellites will be using artificial intelligence (AI) to make smarter decisions and improve overall performance and efficiency in space. During Operation Sindoor, satellite-based surveillance helped Indian defence forces to act swiftly by offering accurate intelligence, including the trajectory and movement of drones and missiles. After the successful implementation of SBS-III, India will become more self-reliant and reduce its dependence on other countries. It will help focus more clearly and accurately on the Pakistan and China border and the Indian Ocean Region. During the Operation Sindoor, it was claimed that China provided satellite support to Pakistan. India's satellites, like the Cartosat and RISAT, helped defence forces to track enemy mobilisation, confirm strike impact, and maintain real-time situational awareness, which prevented any major damage to the country's military assets.

Pakistan plans to finalize Roosevelt Hotel privatization structure at next cabinet committee meeting
KARACHI: Pakistan is expected to finalize the transaction structure for the privatization of the Roosevelt Hotel in New York at the next meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization, the government said in a statement on Saturday. Located in Midtown Manhattan, the hotel is owned by Pakistan International Airlines Investment Limited (PIAIL) and occupies a full city block on Madison Avenue and 45th Street. It has also remained one of Pakistan's most high-profile yet politically sensitive overseas assets. 'The base price and expected proceeds from the privatization of the Roosevelt Hotel will depend on the transaction structure and final terms approved by the government,' the Privatization Commission said in an official handout. 'The transaction structure is expected to be finalized at the next meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization.' The statement informed no base price had yet been set for the property, rebutting some local media reports that claimed the government had fixed a $100 million floor. It also pointed out such a value could only be determined at the time of bidding, adding that the deal's potential value would depend on the transaction structure and final terms approved by the cabinet committee. Over the past two decades, successive Pakistani governments have floated plans to sell, lease or redevelop the property, but no proposal has advanced beyond early-stage planning. Earlier this month, Muhammad Ali, the prime minister's adviser on privatization, told Arab News that the government had completed the hotel's baseline valuation and appointed US-based consultancy JLL to conduct market sounding. 'We just need to get approval from the cabinet committee on the structure, and we'll move ahead,' he said.

This project will make easy accessibility to important nodes in the three Industrial Corridors of Andhra Pradesh, i.e., Kopparthy Node on the Vishakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), Orvakal Node on Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC) and Krishnapatnam Node on Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). Along with this, this is likely to have a positive impact on the Logistic Performance Index (LPI) of the country. "Badvel Nellore Corridor starts from Gopavaram Village on the existing National Highway NH-67 in the YSR Kadapa District and terminates at the Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (Chennai-Kolkata) in SPSR Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh and will also provide strategic connectivity to the Krishnapatnam Port which has been identified as a priority node under Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC)," Cabinet Committee said in a release.
