There's A Summer Mini Dress For Everyone – Here Are 15 Styles To Shop Now

Fashion is no stranger to a thigh-grazing hem. From its invention in the 1960s to its (even more) micro iterations over 50 years later, the mini dress has only gotten smaller and mightier with age. What the summer mini dress lacks in fabric, it makes up for in versatility. For SS25, designers continue to herald this diminutive wonder, in smock form at Chloé, pelted with polka dots at Prabal Gurung and Carolina Herrera, and buoyed by bubble hems at Stella McCartney and JW Anderson. Anderson also made a strong case for the slinky satin dress – as has Hailey Bieber on at least two recent trips to New York's Cafe Zaffri – while Coach and Sandy Liang used the fabric in pleasingly starchier forms. One could argue that a classic shift is the mini dress' most authentic iteration, since this was the shape that started it all in the 1960s. A simple black shift is always a good idea (Pamela Anderson is a fan), or consider something in leather (see Emilia Wickstead) or neon – or both, as at Gucci. What's more, the summer mini dress can be worn for practically any occasion, from marketing-hopping while on holiday to balmy nights spent dancing, and even more formal affairs; for example, Georgia May Jagger and Jourdan Dunn eschewed the usual midi or maxi dress for shorter styles at this year's Serpentine Summer Party. From bubble hems to Sixties-inspired shifts, airy smocks to satin styles, we've shortlisted the loveliest summer mini dresses, below. A bubble hem lends futuristic edge to the tried-and-trued mini dress. Ground the flouncy silhouette with ballet flats – or chunky loafers, as seen at JW Anderson and Victoria Beckham. Spotted: polka dots dainty and oversized at Patou, Prabal Gurung and Carolina Herrera. You can't go wrong with classic black and white, best accessorised with poppy-red lipstick. The satin summer mini dress comes in forms both slinky and structured, making it the perfect piece for parties and more formal events alike. Take cues from N°21's SS25 show, where a satin shift was styled with pointed flats and a messy beehive. The nightie dress is a heatwave marvel. Reach for smock styles in chiffon or cotton that have romantic, puffed sleeves and pretty smocked or shirred detailing, and finish things off with a generous helping of vintage jewellery. Riff on a Sixties sensibility with a sleeveless shift dress. A well-made one in classic black will see you through decades of wear, or opt for something a little more playful, in candyfloss-pink or nostalgic school checks. Mules or block-heel Mary Janes work well here. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Can a Restaurant Be Both Glamorous and Comforting? Cafe Zaffri Is.

There's an old term in Hollywood: a 'four-quadrant movie.' It describes a film that appeals to every demographic — men and women, young and old. A blockbuster like 'Finding Nemo,' 'Jurassic Park' or 'Wicked.' Allow me to introduce you to the four-quadrant restaurant. This is the place where you can take your parents, and where you can also host your birthday dinner. Where you can have a power lunch. Where you can take a picky eater. Where you can find a flaky croissant and a well-prepared steak. That restaurant is Cafe Zaffri, a majestic, marble-tiled home for Levantine cuisine that opened in February near Union Square. I have tested the restaurant — a soaring space with two dining rooms, one open and sun-soaked, the other dark and moody — with differing audiences, at various mealtimes. My friends and I have basked in the ivory atrium over crisp cigars of halloumi-esque jibneh dusted with so much lemon zest they taste like sunshine. When some British comrades complained to me that American restaurant food was too sweet, they experienced a change of heart over a simple lunch of skewers: silken ribbons of cabbage and pine nuts, slippery hunks of striped bass flickered with tart black lime powder, and grilled pork belly smeared with sticky date molasses. LaQuan Smith Hosts a Pre-Met Dinner With Taraji P. Henson, Babyface and More

While some were rushing to a last-minute facial or doing one final fitting, friends of LaQuan Smith took the night before the Met as a chance to unwind before the big day. Smith hosted a dinner at Cafe Zaffri with VIP guests like Taraji P. Henson and Babyface on Sunday evening — though it was the designer himself who drew the most flashbulbs when he arrived, a full crew in tow. 'I'm overwhelmed, I'm excited — I'm not nervous, I'm just more anxious,' Smith said of his feelings ahead of the Met. 'I'm anxious to just really debut the looks that I've been working on for so long.' Smith said he and his team have been conceptualizing the looks they've made for the Met for the last six to eight months — 'which is not a lot of time.' 'I'm still doing fittings. I'm doing one tonight,' he said. While we'll have to wait until the red carpet reveal to see the guests he is dressing, the designer previewed his own outfit. 'For me, my approach was more about sticking within the theme of really strong suiting, strong tailoring, and bringing that glamour and pizazz that everyone knows LaQuan Smith to be,' he said. 'I'm bringing the glamour and a level of sophistication.' As for what he's looking forward to from everyone else? 'I want to see what Teyana Taylor is going to wear. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone is going to interpret this incredible dandyism theme,' he said. 'I'm looking forward to seeing Black excellence on the carpet.' Hailey Bieber Is a Modern Cinderella in a Baby-Blue Minidress and Clear Heels

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Hailey Bieber was a big-city princess last night as she stepped out in Manhattan for a chic evening at the new Cafe Zaffri in Union Square. The model was a vision in a silky little baby-blue minidress that was every bit Cinderella-coded. The body-hugging piece was sleeveless, with a high, straight neckline and a subtle sheen. Celebrity stylist Dani Michelle revealed on her Instagram Story that she pulled the icy design from the archives. It is actually a vintage Gucci dress from the Spring 1998 collection designed by Tom Ford. Bieber styled the mini with nude heels with a clear, PVC strap—a shoe choice that seemed like her modern version of Cinderella's glass slippers. She further accessorized the ensemble with the Row's slouchy, beige Mira clutch, skinny black sunglasses, and tiny gold hoop earrings. The Rhode founder kept her makeup rosy and glossy, and had on a soapy clear-pink manicure. She even repped her brand via her viral lip case in a cool blue that matched her dress. 'Icons only @haileybieber,' Michelle captioned a street style shot of her on Instagram. We're not quite sure why Mrs. Bieber is in New York City, but it seems likely that she has made the trip for the Met Gala, which will take place on Monday, May 5. This year, the theme of fashion's biggest night is 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' based on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition of the same name.
