Wales star Hannah battles back from tough ACL injuries
Cain bounced back after tearing anterior cruciate ligaments in November 2021 but then suffered another horror injury two years later to leave her career in danger. 'The pain of the second one was a lot worse,' Cain told the PA news agency. 'The first one I did my ACL. The second one I did ACL, meniscus, and fractured my femur when the ACL ripped off. 'It was pretty hefty, very painful. Horrendous. When I was on the floor I remember saying to the manager (Gemma Grainger), 'I can't believe I've done it again'.' Asked if she had concerns over her career, Cain said: 'I did a little bit. Not so much the fact I'd had the injury, it was more so mentally. 'Could I come back? Did I want to come back? It was a lot tougher mentally than it was physically.' Cain's return from her second ACL coincided with Wales' march to their first major tournament under Rhian Wilkinson in Switzerland this summer. The 26-year-old scored the opening goal from the penalty spot as Wales beat Republic of Ireland 2-1 in the decisive second leg of their Euros play-off final in December. She said: 'I knew I was on penalties before the game, but kind of forgot at first. 'I had a moment of panic as I thought: 'Right, this is the biggest moment in Welsh history and it's got to go in' – and obviously it did. 'Knowing I could make an impact in such a big game was an unbelievable feeling.' Doncaster-born Cain began playing football with her brother in the park at the age of four, and says she persuaded her mother to continue after telling her 'ballet was not an option'. Qualifying for Wales through her grandfather Bob, Cain joined the national set-up at the age of 14 but switched allegiance and represented England from under-17 to under-21 level. 'I had a bad foot injury and I didn't think international football was for me,' said the Leicester player. 'But then Gemma, who I knew from the England youth set-up, asked me to come back and play for Wales. 'I came down to watch a game with my grandad and he kept saying, 'you've got to do it'. I phoned Gemma the next day and said, 'Yeah, get me in. I want to do whatever I can to help'.' Cain is now set to meet England at the Euros, with France and the Netherlands completing a challenging group. 'I probably know most of the England squad,' said Cain. 'I've played with a couple of them at different clubs and keep in touch with Chloe Kelly as we were good friends at Everton.' Wales kick-off their tournament against the Netherlands in Lucerne on July 5. Their remaining two games are in St Gallen with France on July 9 and against reigning European champions England on July 13.

Emmerdale's Cain plans another funeral after Nate's
Since Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) death, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordely) has been spiralling in Emmerdale. It's no thanks to John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who all but handed him the scotch to enable him to drink himself into a stupor, which resulted in Cain faceplanting the floor and John making himself the hero by saving him from the alcohol poisoning he gave him. But with or without John's interference, Cain has been struggling with his guilt over Nate's death and his turn to booze was a sign he is not coping with his loss. He admitted to John that he was struggling with the fact he didn't tell Nate what he meant to him before he died – or any of the other loved ones he's lost – and the fact that Nate died thinking Cain had disowned him is eating him up inside. Meanwhile, he's still somewhat convinced that Tracy might have had something to do with it, and vice versa, with their game of tit for tat not helping Cain's mood one bit. Tracy (Amy Walsh) truly put the boot in by making her checkmate move and banning Cain from the funeral, which later became a ban for the entire Dingle family. More Trending This was a painful blow to Cain, as he saw it as a lost chance to say a proper apologetic goodbye to his son. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill) tries to help him see that the ban is an opportunity instead – if Tracy is taking over the main funeral anyway, Cain can have his own send off for his son and be in complete control. That means a right royal Dingle knees up is on the cards complete with chaos and all the high spirits their unconventional Dingle funerals can muster. Emmerdale star to stage unexpected return after 5 years
A former Emmerdale character is reportedly heading back to the village for Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) funeral. Carryl is set to reprise her role as Cara – Nate's mum – next month. Cara hasn't been in the Dales for five years, but she was briefly mentioned a couple of weeks ago, when Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) spoke to her about their son's murder. The brief phone call allowed us to discover Cara still hugely dislikes Cain. This will make for interesting viewing soon, as both Cain and Nate's partner Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) have been accused of killing him. 'Nate's death has been heartbreaking for his family and with the truth hidden the Dingles and Tracy are more divided than ever. Cara returns to say goodbye to her son and walks straight into the middle of it all', a source told The Sun. 'She's going to have a few choice words for her ex Cain as she tries to understand what really happened to Nate. Carryl jumped at the chance to reprise her role after five years to do justice to the storyline.' Nate was killed by John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) last year, but this wasn't confirmed until April 2025. In an episode that featured flashback scenes, it was established that John lives with a hero complex. He orchestrates terrible situations and then steps in to fix them, looking like a great person in front of the Emmerdale residents. When it comes to Nate, John attempted to help him after he was attacked by Cain. He gave Nate some medication but he reacted badly to it, leading to his death. As it stands, John is doing a very good job at hiding in the shadows while the police continue their investigation into Nate's murder. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Emmerdale's John Sugden may be 'taken down' by Dales legend in huge twist
Fans of the long-running soap believe Sugden could finally be caught out by an Emmerdale icon. Viewers of popular soap Emmerdale think that they may have figured out how murderer John Sugden will finally be caught out. Observant fans think a Dales legend may be the one to bring John to justice. John Sugden (played by Oliver Farnworth) arrived on the soap back in August 2024, where he was first introduced as the brother of Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins). He quickly emerged as a villain, and was notably responsible for killing Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) after last year's barn fire, and dumping his body in a lake. Sugden also spiked Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) in an attempt to frame Ella Forster (Paula Lane), and induced a severe allergic reaction in Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), reports Bristol Live. Eight months after the infamous barn fire, the village was recently shook by the news of Nate's death after his body was pulled out of the lake. Dales Detectives were initially suspicious of Nate's father, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), after discovering that he had a huge argument with Nate before he disappeared. Nate's wife, Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh) has since been under suspicion, after John planted Nate's phone in her daughter Frankie's (Eden Ratcliffe-Knights) playhouse. On one of last week's episodes, a grieving Cain got drunk on a bottle of strong alcohol that his father, Zak (Steve Halliwell), had brewed before his death. John then noticed Cain stumbling around the village drunk and quickly made him his next target. The Emmerdale villain took Cain home and encouraged him to drink heavily until he collapsed on the floor, with John rushing to "save" him just as Moira (Natalie J Robb) walked through the door. John told Moira that he had taken Cain home to keep an eye on him after he'd drank a dangerous amount of alcohol in secret. "To think what could of happened if you hadn't of been here, John. You saved him... You're a hero, and a real-life one at that. Thank you," Moira said, unaware of the true role John had played. Now, several Emmerdale fans believe that beady-eyed Moira might have already clocked on to John's behaviour after noticing two glasses on the table, suggesting that he was involved in getting Cain drunk. "John said he found Cain drinking. Did Moira not notice two glasses on the table," one person wrote on a Facebook fan page. Another added: "Ooo yes Moira could be hiding what she knows about John," while a third said: "Surely Moira noticed the two scotch glasses and will take John down finally." Meanwhile, a fourth viewer believed that a different villager could reveal John's crimes: "I think Liam is starting to get suspicious noticing that John is always there to save someone just when it's needed. "He's starting to put two and two together once he finds out what happened with Cain." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
