Egyptian-Italian Belly Dancer Sohila Tarek Haggag Arrested in Cairo Over Social Media Dance Videos

Egyptian-born Italian belly dancer Sohila Tarek Haggag, known as Linda Martino on Instagram, was arrested at Cairo Airport on June 22 for posting dance videos that authorities say were provocative and broke social norms. She has 2.2 million followers and was charged with inciting immorality through "seductive" dancing and wearing revealing clothes. At the time, she had a large amount of cash. The Italian embassy has asked for her release. Haggag moved back to Egypt after leaving Italy and built a successful career. She may stay in jail for at least two more weeks. Her case is part of a wider crackdown on online behavior under President Sisi. Other dancers have faced similar charges, and human rights groups have criticized Egypt's vague cyber laws, which can lead to jail for content seen as immoral.

Final marine loading arm for ‘Winter' regasification unit arrives in Cairo

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has announced the arrival of the final marine loading arm designated for Egypt's fourth floating regasification unit, known as 'Winter', marking a significant step in the country's ongoing efforts to secure and stabilise natural gas supplies during the high-demand summer season. The loading arm, described as the largest of its kind globally, was transported to Cairo Airport aboard an Antonov cargo aircraft—one of only four in the world capable of carrying such large-scale industrial components. Its arrival underlines Egypt's proactive strategy to ensure the full operational readiness of its floating regasification infrastructure, a cornerstone of national energy security. Once installed, the unit will be connected to the national gas grid via the United Gas Derivatives Company (UGDC) in Damietta, in preparation for the commencement of operations according to the approved schedule. This step reinforces Egypt's commitment to maintaining uninterrupted gas flows across key sectors throughout the country. In parallel, the floating regasification unit 'ENERGOS FORCE' is expected to dock at Jordan's Aqaba Port later this month. The vessel is currently undergoing final technical preparations and will serve as an emergency backup unit—further enhancing the resilience of the regional gas supply chain via the Arab Gas Pipeline. The Ministry of Petroleum emphasised that these developments are part of a broader strategic vision aimed at improving the flexibility, reliability, and emergency responsiveness of Egypt's natural gas system. The enhancements to regasification capacity not only support domestic energy needs but also position Egypt as a regional energy hub, capable of adapting to fluctuations in demand and addressing potential supply disruptions.

Saudi plane makes emergency landing in Cairo after cabin manager dies mid-flight

Cairo International Airport witnessed an emergency landing Thursday by a Saudia, formerly known as Saudi Arabian Airlines, flight en route from Jeddah to London. The diversion occurred after the cabin manager suffered a sudden heart attack, which tragically led to his death during the flight. According to aviation and security sources, Cairo Airport's air traffic control tower received an emergency alert from the pilot, prompting the flight to change its course and land at the nearest available airport to handle the situation. Saudia issued an official statement via its 'X' platform, confirming that cabin manager Mohsen bin Saeed Al-Zahrani passed away due to a sudden health issue while performing his duties on board. The airline expressed its heartfelt condolences to his family, praying for his mercy and forgiveness. The second pilot successfully managed the flight and executed a safe landing at Cairo Airport. A medical team immediately boarded the aircraft to assess the situation, confirming that Al-Zahrani had passed away before the plane landed. His body was subsequently transferred to a nearby hospital, while the Egyptian Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the death to rule out any criminal suspicion. The aircraft later resumed its journey to London after all necessary legal and health procedures were completed. Official statements have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the precise cause of death or further identification of the deceased. Emergency landings due to sudden health emergencies, while rare, are not unprecedented. In June 2024, Jeddah International Airport also saw an Egyptian Sky Vision plane make an emergency landing after its pilot, Captain Hassan Youssef Adas, died from a sudden heart attack during a flight from Cairo to Taif.

During a Monday telephone interview with TV host Lamis al-Hadidi on the'Last Word' (Kalema Akhera), Adel said: 'We have raised the state of readiness within the company and even at our international stations to the highest level.' Regarding the number of canceled flights, he said, 'Flights to Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Dammam, and Riyadh have been canceled, in addition to flights already in the air that were returned to Cairo Airport, such as flights to Dammam, Riyadh, and Mumbai, because they fly over Gulf airspace.' The American website Axios reported, citing a senior White House official, that US President Donald Trump's current goal is to end the war, and he intends to say so to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The White House official explained, 'We want a deal, we don't want more war.'
