The Arty Party is over — and Canucks fans aren't taking the trade well
It's a trade that had to happen, with the Canucks' crease situation all jammed up. Still, it doesn't mean Vancouver fans are happy about it. Fan favourite and reigning Calder Cup playoffs MVP goaltender Arturs Silovs is off to Pittsburgh , in a trade that sees the Penguins part with depth forward prospect Chase Stillman, who was a 2021 first-round pick, and a fourth-round pick in 2027. Something had to give, and Silovs was the obvious piece to move on from — the 24-year-old was going to need clear waivers this season to be sent down to the minors. The lanky Latvian with the big smile and pink paisley shirt, however, will certainly be missed around these parts. Arturs Silovs will forever be entrenched in #Canucks lore. 🧊👕🥳🏆 19+ It's not quite pitchforks and torches time in Vancouver for moving on from a No. 3 goalie. Or is it? justice for arturs silovs Silovs built up a something of a cult following in Vancouver. Sunday's trade didn't see a shortage of existential dread on social media. this is the end of everything actually the way they did it again. artūrs šilovs don't move im coming to get you. my forever two favourite players 😭♥️ artūrs šilovs with the canucks will be so missed ❤️🩹 goodbye sweet prince, artūrs šilovs 🤧💔 CHASE STILLMAN IS A CANUCK AND ARTŪRS ŠILOVS IS A PENGUIN NOW WHAT IS THIS Wasn't gonna drink tonight but Arturs Silovs got traded so I have to Meanwhile, despite the Canucks getting fair market value for Silovs, media around the hockey world are praising the move for the Penguins. AHL insider and Flohockey columnist Chris Peters writes : 'The Penguins … have a need at the position. They have a few promising young goalies in their system, but guys that probably should spend more time in the AHL. That includes Joel Blomqvist, who played some at the NHL level this year … (Silovs) showed during the Calder Cup Playoffs that it's time to give him some more NHL net time. 'If Silovs hits and can be a starter for the Penguins in the near future, this might solve one of their most immediate needs at the NHL level. (Tristan) Jarry's days as a reliable No. 1 appear to be dwindling. Adding a young, athletic and fairly accomplished young goalie is probably one of the more intriguing moves the Pens have made all summer.' Arturs Silovs has been traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Chase Stillman & 4th round draft pick '27. Low risk-high reward opportunity for Pittsburgh. I like this deal from Penguins' perspective. Over at , analyst Dan Kingerski writes: 'This is an A+ trade for (Kyle) Dubas and the Penguins. They've risked nothing and may get an NHL goalie. (Chase) Stillman was a 2021 first-round pick by New Jersey, but has done little to force his way to the NHL. He's an AHL depth player and the other asset given up was merely a fourth-round pick amongst the treasure trove of draft picks over the next three years. 'Silovs is young enough to keep improving upon his subpar regular-season performances. He's just a year older than Blomqvist, who also struggled mightily in NHL action this season.' AHL insider Tony Androckitis thinks there's another goalie trade coming for Pittsburgh now. Have to think another goalie move is coming for #Pens . NHL contracts: Tristan Jarry, Arturs Silovs, Joel Blomqvist, Flip Larsson & Sergei Murashov AHL contracts: Taylor Gauthier & Max Pavlenko Can't have Murashov in ECHL-Wheeling again in 2025-26, IMO. @InsideAHLHockey And predictably, the Penguins faithful are welcoming Silovs into the fold with open arms. Artūrs Šilovs in my favorite team's net arturs silovs is really a pittsburgh penguin like I suggested the Flyers look at Arturs Silovs. Solid move by the Pens. I think he's got started potential or 1A/1B potential at a minimum. I'd like to thank chase stillman for being the reason Cody glass is a devil and Arturs Silovs is a penguin cheers diva x mraptis@

Special Teams Issues Sink Abbotsford Canucks In 5-2 Game 3 Loss To The Texas Stars
The Abbotsford Canucks dropped Game 3 of their Western Conference Final, falling 5-2 to the Texas Stars. Christian Wolanin and Linus Karlsson scored the goals, while Artūrs Šilovs stopped 31 of the 36 shots he faced. Despite the loss, Abbotsford still has a series lead and will head into Game 4 up 2-1. Abbotsford went two for five on the power play, while the Stars finished two for four with two shorthanded goals. Ultimately, the Game 3 special teams performance was shocking, as not only had the Canucks penalty kill been unbeatable this post-season, but they had only allowed one shorthanded goal during the entire regular season and playoffs leading up to Game 3. Abbotsford also struggled to generate shots from in tight throughout the game. According to the shot chat, the Canucks only five of Abbotsford's 24 shots came below the faceoff dot. If the Canucks are going to win this series, they need to find a way to crash Remi Poirier's crease more often and create scoring chances from high-danger areas. Advertisement Abbotsford's overall defensive performance was also problematic, as Texas was able to record 36 shots on net. The Stars were able to generate chances from distance, as well as in tight, as they controlled the majority of puck possession in this game. Ulitmatley, the Canucks did not look like themselves as they could not find a way to create any form of sustained momentum in Game 3. Overall, this may have been Abbotsford's most disappointing performance of the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs. They were outplayed from start to finish, and as mentioned, their special teams had a night to forget. While the Canucks are still up in the series, they cannot afford to put forth a similar effort when they hit the ice in Game 4 on Wednesday. Florida Panthers set sights on Stanley Cup victory as Charlotte Checkers move toward Calder Cup Final
Florida Panthers (via Getty Images) T he Florida Panthers are pursuing their much-awaited Stanley Cup win and their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, are making history on their own in the Calder Cup Playoffs. For the first time since coming together in 2020, both teams are within reach of championship glory—an accomplishment that could replicate an unusual feat unseen in almost 30 years in professional hockey. Charlotte Checkers overwhelm Laval Rocket to sit one win shy of Calder Cup Final undefined The Florida Panthers may not be the only team in the playoffs spotlight, as the Charlotte Checkers are within a win of heading to the Calder Cup Final with a 5-1 thumping of the Laval Rocket in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. On Sunday, the team effort was visible with Riley Bezeau scoring twice, including one during a four-goal second period, as John Leonard, Will Lockwood, and Sandis Vilmanis also scored to make the game far out of reach for the AHL affiliate Laval Rocket of the Montreal Canadiens. Goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen was again phenomenal with 22 saves, supporting Charlotte to its seventh consecutive playoff victory. The Checkers have now scored 15-4 in this best-of-seven series against Laval. 'Our guys have done it all year,'' Charlotte Checkers head coach Geordie Kinnear said. 'That's a great team,'' Bezeau said. 'They finished first in their division; they're not going to go away, and we know that. We've just got to stick to our game plan and keep going.' If Charlotte sweeps the series at home Tuesday night, and if the Florida Panthers keep their Stanley Cup Final quest alive, the two teams might duplicate a task last accomplished in 1995 when the New Jersey Devils and Albany River Rats captured the Stanley Cup and Calder Cup, respectively. Meanwhile in the Western Conference, the Abbotsford Canucks lead 2-0 against the Texas Stars and the series heads to Austin for Game 3. Also read: Brad Marchand eyes the second Stanley Cup in a career-redefining run with the Florida Panthers As the Florida Panthers eye a Stanley Cup championship, the Charlotte Checkers are forging an equally impressive argument for a Calder Cup Final appearance. If both teams win their respective titles, it would be a historic double victory for the organization, helping to make this year one of the most successful in Florida's hockey history.
