Armed robbers target multiple people in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood

Police issued a community alert Sunday about a string of armed robberies in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. In each incident, one to three robbers have approached the victims and demanded their property at gunpoint, police said. The robbers take the victims' property and flee either on foot or in a car that may be a dark-colored four-door sedan. Many of the robberies happened in broad daylight. The robberies happened at the following specific times and locations: The robbers are described as three teenage boys or young men, ages 14 to 20, armed with handguns. Burglars steal ATMs from 3 businesses on Chicago's South Side

Police on Sunday were asking for help from the public in finding the perpetrators who stole ATMs from three businesses in the South Side's Beverly and Avalon Park neighborhoods last week. The burglaries all happened between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday, June 27. Investigators said the burglars used a crowbar to break the glass front doors in each incident. Once inside, they stole the ATMs. The burglars first struck at 3:15 a.m. Friday at a business in the 1400 block of East 87th Street in Avalon Park. At 4:02 a.m. Friday, they struck Waldo Cooney's Pizza at 2410 W. 111th St. in Beverly. Waldo Cooney's Pizza at 2410 W. 111th St. was burglarized on Friday, June 27, 2025. Cops: Homicide investigation after 72-year-old man found dead in bathtub on South Side

Police have opened a homicide investigation after a 72-year-old man was found dead Wednesday afternoon inside a bathtub in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the city's South Side, authorities said. The man, whose identity wasn't immediately released, was discovered in a bathtub inside a residence on the 7700 block of South Avalon Avenue and pronounced dead on scene shortly after 2:50 p.m., according to Chicago police. Police said they were conducting a homicide investigation, but did not say how they believe the man died. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday. No arrests had been made as an investigation by Calumet Area detectives was underway. tkenny@

Man, teenage boy shot in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood

A man and a 15-year-old boy were shot and wounded Monday evening in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood. At 7:19 p.m., the boy and the 33-year-old man were near an alley off the 7900 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when they were both struck by unknown gunfire, police said. The teen was struck in the back and was reported in fair condition at the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital. The man was struck in the torso and leg and was reported in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center. No one was in custody late Monday. Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
