Government of Canada grants $1,859,000 to Just For Laughs Festival

MONTRÉAL, July 21, 2025 /CNW/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) This year, the Just For Laughs Festival is back in Montréal from July 16 to 27 with new diverse programming where festive comic entertainment is front stage! Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), along with the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, announced a total of $1,859,000 in funding for the Just For Laughs Festival. CED is providing a non-repayable contribution of $1,359,000 under its Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) for the 2025 and 2026 editions of the festival. This assistance serves to support the promotion and marketing of the event, in addition to fostering the development of new products. For its part, Canadian Heritage is providing $500,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund to support the 2025 edition of the festival. This funding will allow audiences to access rich bilingual programming, including comedy shows of all kinds. QUÉBEC, /CNW/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions and Canadian Heritage (PCH) The Government of Canada is granting a total of $1,750,000 in financial support to the Festival d'été de Québec (FEQ). This must-attend multi-genre musical event taking place on the Plains of Abraham and at other locations across downtown Québec attracts numerous tourists every year thanks to performances by local and international groups and artists. The aim of this funding is to market the FEQ so as to attract visitors from outside Quebec, maintain the summer event's relevance and appeal by enhancing the tourism experience, and provide better access to works by professional artists. The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), and the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, made the announcement today. The Government of Canada is providing the following financial assistance: A non-repayable contribution of $1.2 million under CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP). This funding enables the FEQ to engage in promotional activities internationally, to renew its brand image and to develop new products to enhance festivalgoers' experience at the 2025 and 2026 editions. A $550,000 grant for the FEQ's 2025 edition through Canadian Heritage's Canada Arts Presentation Fund. This funding enables the organization to launch a rich program including internationally renowned artists, in addition to providing an exceptional showcase for the next generation of artists. Totalling $700,000, the funding will enable the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal—one of the world's largest musical events—to once again present a lineup full of exciting discoveries, showcasing both established and emerging talented artists. Through its impressive lineup of shows—most of them free and presented in the Quartier des spectacles—the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal attracts more than 1.2 million participants each year for unique performances. The federal government is proud to support our country's cultural scene, which makes Canada strong and our communities vibrant, and to help our artists and culture shine at home and internationally. No less than 350 shows will be offered, two-thirds of which will be free. Nearly half of the programming will feature up-and-coming artists. The Canada Arts Presentation Fund provides financial assistance to organizations that present professional arts festivals or performing arts series. The Fund also supports organizations that assist arts presenters. In Budget 2024, the Government of Canada announced an additional $31 million over two years for the Canada Arts Presentation Fund.
