Much of Wisconsin in air quality alert due to Candian wildfire smoke
The Department of Natural Resources issued an air quality alert for north, central and northeastern Wisconsin, due to wildfire smoke making its way south from Canada. The June 3 advisory comes as northern Wisconsin residents experience hazier air quality from northerly winds carrying surface smoke, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Patterson. "It was to the point where people could smell it," Patterson said. The National Weather Service warns that heavy surface smoke may move south through the state on June 3. Because of a south-moving cold front bringing rain across Wisconsin on June 3, the impacts of the smoke are predicted to be felt statewide, according to the weather service. The NWS is advising sensitive groups, including individuals with asthma or heart disease, to reschedule outdoor activities or move them inside. The smoke is coming from wildfires in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Rising heat, winds, and dry air sparked blazes in those Canadian provinces. Thousands have been evacuated. Conor Purcell five shots back after opening round of the Soudal Open
Conor Purcell carded a 70 to lie five shots off the lead held by three players after the opening round of the Soudal Open in Belgium. The Dubliner made made three birdies on the front nine but dropped shots on 10 and 13 to finish one-under par alongside 24 other competitors in 45th spot. Dutchman Joost Luiten, Angel Ayora from Spain and Candian Aaron Cockerill head the standings on six under after their 65s.

Canada Election Results 2025: Joe Biden congratulates Mark Carney who says ‘Trump is trying to break us'
Former US President Joe Biden congratulated Mark Carney on his historic win in the Canadian Elections 2025. "I congratulate Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party on their success in Canada's election. I'm confident Mark will be a strong leader for the fundamental values and interests Canadians and Americans share," Biden posted on X on Tuesday. Mark Carney is all set become the Candian Prime Minister for a full term. He had replaced Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister after Trudeau announced his resignation in January. Carney took over as the PM after the Liberal Party elected him on March 9. Mark Carney's Liberal party is poised to win the election for the fourth consequetive term – 'a rarity in Canadian politics,' CBC news reported. However, official announcement on the Canada Election Result is still awaited. The Liberal share of the vote hovers just below 43 per cent and, as of 12 pm IST. Carney's party is leading or projected elected in about 167 seats. The Conservative vote share stands at about 42 per cent, which is an extremely strong showing for the party but did not translate into the most seats, local reports added. A party needs to win 172 of Parliament's 343 seats to win the Canadian election and form the new government in the country. Carney's win came a strong reversal of fortunes in the Candian politics. The Liberals earlier looked headed for a crushing defeat until the US President Donald Trump started attacking Canada's economy and threatening its sovereignty, suggesting it should become the 51st state. Trump's actions infuriated Canadians and stoked a surge in nationalism that helped the Liberals flip the election narrative and win a fourth-straight term in power. In a victory speech before supporters in Ottawa, Carney stressed the importance of Canadian unity in the face of Washington's threats. He also said the mutually beneficial system Canada and the US had shared since World War II had ended. 'We are over the shock of the American betrayal, but we should never forget the lessons,' Carney said in his victory speech. 'As I've been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country," Carney said. "These are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us so America can own us. That will never ... ever happen. But we also must recognize the reality that our world has fundamentally changed,' Carney said. Scenic Train To Launch New Route In The American West
The Rocky Mountaineer's U.S. routes will now operate under the name Canyon Spirit, and the route will be extended from Denver to Salt Lake City via Moab. In 2021, a Candian luxury scenic train called the Rocky Mountaineer launched its first American route between Denver, Colorado and Moab, Utah. This week, the rail line announced that it would be extending the route farther west to Salt Lake City and also changing its name for U.S.-based operations. Up until 2021, since its inception in 1990, the Rocky Mountaineer exclusively ran trips in Canada between destinations like Vancouver, Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper in the Canadian Rockies. Unique for its lack of sleeper cars and itineraries that allow guests to disembark each night for local hotel stays, the Rocky Mountaineer has been honored by the World Travel Awards as the 'World's Leading Travel Experience by Train' eight times, and in 2020, it won a Globe Travel Award for 'Best Rail Company,' according to CNN. Expanding in the American West Starting in 2026, the route known as 'Rockies to the Red Rocks' will expand from what was a 2-day, 1-night journey between Denver and Moab with an overnight in Glenwood Springs to a 3-day journey between Denver, Moab, and Salt Lake City with overnights in Glenwood Springs and Moab. It will also go by a new name. While the train company will still operate as the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada, it will now go by 'Canyon Spirit' in the United States. Guests will have the option of booking different types of train packages, depending on where they want to end up. For example, those looking to spend time in Moab to explore Arches or Canyonlands national parks will still be able to book the original two-day, one-night passage. Or, one can customize the trip and use buses—all organized by Canyon Spirit—to explore other national parks in Southern Utah, like Bryce Canyon. Guests can take the train one-way from Denver to Salt Lake, or vice versa. They can also book a roundtrip to start and end in the same city. Unique Sleeping Arrangements When booking the journey between Denver and Salt Lake City, the fare includes overnight hotel accommodations in Glenwood Springs and Moab. This is one of the Canyon Spirit's (and Rocky Mountaineer's) main differentiator from other train companies. By forgoing sleeper cabins in favor of hotels, passengers get to check out a small town or two along the way. The other big benefit is that the train does not move at night, which means that all travel takes place during the day and no scenery is missed. While onboard, guides will narrate as the train passes through small towns and scenic areas, and meals will include dishes paired with beer, wines, and spirits from the regions the train is passing through. Bookings are now open for the new route to Salt Lake City, but the extended route won't begin until 2026. You can still experience the two-day route between Denver and Moab, which will run throughout 2025.
