Legendary's 'Street Fighter' Film Casts David Dastmalchian As Big Bad M. Bison

Legendary and Capcom's upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie might already have a pretty stacked roster of heroes, such as Callina Liang's ( Tell Me Everything ) Chun-Li and Andrew Koji's ( Warrior ) Ryu, but the film has now found the face of its lead villain, M. Bison, in David Dastmalchian. Announced via Deadline, this marks the biggest role to date for the 49-year-old actor, best known for his supporting roles in various superhero franchises, including Thomas Schiff in 2008's The Dark Knight , Kurt and Veb in the Ant-Man franchise, Abra Kadabra in the CW's The Flash , and Polka-Dot Man in 2021's The Suicide Squad . Dastmalchian also landed the leading role in the 2023 independent supernatural horror film Late Night with the Devil , playing the charismatic talk show host Jack Delroy. Although plot details remain under wraps, M. Bison (also known as Vega in Japan) is the main antagonist of numerous Street Fighter games and was first introduced in the 1991 title Street Fighter II: The World Warrior as the final boss of the game. As a would-be world dictator and megalomaniac, M. Bison is a truly evil character, whose ultimate goal is to rule the world's governments through his Shadaloo crime syndicate. Dastmalchian's M. Bison joins the film's expanding roster of characters including Balrog (rapper Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson), Vega (country singer Orville Peck), Blanka (Jason Momoa, Aquaman ), Ken (Noah Centineo, The Recruit ) and Akuma (WWE superstar Roman Reigns), with the film being helmed by The Eric Andre Show's Kitao Sakurai. Dastmalchian also takes over the live-action role from the late Raúl Juliá, who embodied the character in Steven E. de Souza's 1994 movie adaptation, Street Fighter , which also starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue and Ming-Na Wen, as Guile, Cammy and Chun-Li, respectively. It remains to be seen whether Dastmalchian's character will take on the same tyrannical version of M. Bison, or if the upcoming film, which is currently delayed indefinitely, will take a different direction altogether. Kevin is a reformed PC Master Race gamer with a penchant for franchise 'duds' like Darksiders III and Dead Space 3 . He has made it his life-long mission to play every single major game release – lest his wallet dies trying. Capcom David Dastmalchian Legendary Pictures Street Fighter

David Dastmalchian joins Street Fighter cast in major role

David Dastmalchian has reportedly been cast in Street Fighter. The 47-year-old actor - who will next be seen in The Life of Chuck - is said to have landed a major role in Legendary's upcoming live action adaptation of Capcom's classic video game. As reported by Deadline, Dastmalchian will play the villain M. Bison in the movie. In the games, the character is the leader of criminal organisation Shadaloo, which is involved in arms trafficking, mind control experiments and more, with the goal of world domination. Other actors previously revealed for the film include WWE superstar Roman Reigns, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Orville Peck, 50 Cent and Andrew Schulz. The movie will be directed by Kitao Sakurai, with plot details being kept under wraps for the time being. In the Street Fighter video game franchise - which started in 1987 - players collide in one-on-one fights organised by M. Bison in the form of a global fighting tournament. Over the past 38 years, the games have sold over 55 million unites around the world. This will be the third time Street Fighter has received a live-action adaptation for the silver screen, with the franchise's first cinematic outing coming in 1994 with the eponymous Street Fighter - which was followed by 2009's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chu-Li. Dastmalchian has been building his reputation for almost two decades, while his 2024 turn in supernatural horror Late Night With The Devil earned him plaudits. In January this year, it was revealed he has been cast alongside Kelly Marie Tran in psychological thriller Kodak SuperXX. The indie film has been written by Tony Rettenmaier and is set in Los Angeles. It follows Linh (Tran), a quiet woman whose solitary life revolves around her job as a darkroom developer at one of the city's last remaining boutique photo labs. Her lonely existence takes a paranoid turn when she gets caught up with a mysterious stranger (Dastmalchian), whose photos reveal a dark secret. Meanwhile, Dastmalchian previously revealed that his dream is to play a James Bond villain and pitched himself to bosses as the perfect new enemy to push 007 to his limits as the spy franchise prepares for a new era following the departure of Daniel Craig. In a 2023 interview with Slash Film, the 49-year-old actor said: "It begins right now. So whoever is reading this, take it as a sign. You were meant to be reading this line at this moment as you're thinking about the future of what you guys are doing with this franchise. "Trust me when I say that I can bring something to an enemy of 007, whether he or she or they be played in a way that no one has ever seen Bond brought to life before, which is of course the way that you guys always do it." The 'Oppenheimer' actor added: "I think there's no one to push Bond to the limits of their capabilities the way that I could, and I would love to do it. So there's my pitch to them. "I can't wait for them to read this. And then I will owe you when or if I ever get that role, I guess 10 per cent."

David Dastmalchian has officially scored a big role as the iconic villain M. Bison in Legendary's upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie, based on Capcom's awesome video game franchise. Legendary hasn't commented, but this is a massive gig for Dastmalchian, who's built a killer résumé over the past two decades with the projects he's starred in, and he's going to be great in this role! The actor recently appeared in Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck , and gave an impressive performance in the horror film Late Night with the Devil . While plot details for Street Fighter are still being kept under wraps, anyone familiar with the games knows that M. Bison is the main puppet master. He's the ruthless head of Shadaloo, a global criminal syndicate involved in weapons trafficking, mind control, and good old-fashioned world domination. In the lore, he's also the force behind the global martial arts tournament that sets the stage for the series. Dastmalchian isn't new to villainy as he's set to appear as Mr. 3 in One Piece Season 2, has a role in Dexter: Resurrection , and recently co-starred in Apple's Murderbot series with Alexander Skarsgård. Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai is helming the project.
