Elementary school teacher accused of abusing teen student after victim's father makes astonishing discovery
An elementary school teacher was arrested for abusing young student after the victim's father found a picture of the woman's 5-year-old child on Facebook that looked exactly like his son. The New Jersey teacher stands accused of a years-long betrayal of trust after authorities say she sexually abused a former student in her care, beginning when he was just 11 years old. Police began their investigation last year after the father made a post on Facebook. 'Tell me y'all don't see (what) I see. If that ain't my exact DNA it's definitely my son's and we both know I never touched you,' the post read. Last week, a Cape May County grand jury indicted Laura Caron, 34, of Cape May Court House, on two counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. According to court documents, the abuse began in 2016, when Caron was 28 and the victim just 11 years old. The charges stem from what prosecutors have alleged was a years-long sexual relationship that Caron initiated and maintained with a boy who had once been her student. 'These allegations are deeply disturbing, particularly given the position of trust the defendant held in relation to the victim,' said Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland in a statement following the indictment. 'Our office remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.' The New Jersey elementary school teacher stands accused of a shocking and years-long betrayal of trust after authorities say she sexually abused a former student in her care, beginning when he was just 11 years old and later giving birth to his child The victim and his siblings, who had previously been Caron's students, began staying at her home intermittently, reportedly due to instability within their biological family. Over time, that arrangement became more permanent, and by 2016 the children were living with Caron full-time. Investigators allege how behind the closed doors of her Middle Township home, Caron began grooming the boy, eventually initiating a sexual relationship that continued for four years, until 2020. Prosecutors say Caron gave birth to a daughter in 2019, when the boy was just 13 years old. At the time, Caron was still employed as a fifth-grade teacher in the Middle Township School District, where she had taught for over a decade. What shattered the years of silence was the father's Facebook post. The post gained traction and raised immediate concerns. It was this viral accusation, suggesting that Caron's daughter resembled both the father and his son, that led police to open an investigation. The resulting probe, led by the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office and the Middle Township Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, uncovered what prosecutors now describe as a case of systematic abuse and manipulation. Court records show that Caron not only taught the victim, but also his younger brother. Both had been her students before they moved into her home with their sister. The affidavit of probable cause alleges that other children in the home noticed troubling signs including the victim sleeping in Caron's bed, rather than with his siblings, and showering with her. One of the victim's brothers reportedly witnessed a sexual encounter, believing Caron and the victim thought he was asleep. Another sibling reportedly possessed a screenshot of a conversation in which the victim admitted to being the father of Caron's child but pleaded with her not to tell anyone, saying he didn't want Caron to get in trouble. In January 2025, Caron was arrested. At a detention hearing, her defense attorney, John Tumelty, argued that the state had acted prematurely and that no DNA test had yet confirmed the paternity of the child. Prosecutors confirmed that a DNA warrant was obtained, but the results have not yet been publicly released. Despite the gravity of the charges, Caron was released pending trial. The Middle Township School District has not publicly commented on the indictment but confirmed that Caron was suspended without pay following her arrest. Tumelty also noted at the time that no complaints had been filed against Caron during her 11-year teaching career and that her mother, who lived in the same house, knew of no abuse. Still, investigators say the evidence is mounting. The indictment follows months of forensic analysis, interviews, and affidavits painting a disturbing picture of a teacher who allegedly used her authority and emotional proximity to manipulate and sexually exploit a child entrusted to her care. Prosecutors say Caron continued to abuse the victim until 2020, when the child was around 14 or 15 years old. If convicted, Caron faces up to 20 years in prison on the first-degree aggravated sexual assault charge, with an additional 5 to 10 years possible on each of the second-degree charges.

Major update on teacher, 34, who had BABY with boy, 13, & was exposed when ‘his dad realised he looked like his child'
A NEW Jersey primary school teacher who gave birth to her 13-year-old student's baby has been charged with sexual abuse. Laura Caron, 34, worked at Middle Township Elementary School before she was accused of engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student. 5 5 The student was alleged to have been living at her home, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office said. The fifth-grade teacher was caught when the boy's dad made a shocking realisation. When he noticed a striking similarity between his son and the child on Facebook, he alerted authorities. Officials alleged the schoolteacher sexually assaulted her former student between 2016 and 2020, with their child being born in 2019. The two of them met when Caron taught him and his brother at Middle Township Elementary School, the New York Post reported. The teenager's family reportedly had a good relationship with the teacher and allowed their two sons and daughter to spend a couple of nights per week at her house. The trio lived permanently with Caron between 2016 and 2020, sharing a bedroom. It was during that time that Caron allegedly fell pregnant after having 'inappropriate sexual relations' with her former pupil, cops said. The boy's sister said she remembered going to sleep with her brother in the same room - but woke up to find him in Caron's bed, the criminal complaint alleges. She added that the teacher started sleeping with her brother when he was 11 years old. The victim allegedly admitted to his sister in a text that he was the dad of the child and asked her to keep it a secret. Investigators allege that the teen's brother had once seen Caron sexually assaulting his sleeping brother. The alleged victim, who is now between 19 and 20 years old, revealed the sexual relationship with Caron to investigators during an interview and confirmed he is the baby's child. Police arrested Caron at her home in January and charged her with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. The grand jury's indictment came last week. Caron was charged with aggravated sexual assault, as well as sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland revealed. The charges could carry potential penalties of over 30 years. The prosecutor's office did not say anything about the child in its press releases. Sutherland said: "These allegations are deeply disturbing, particularly given the position of trust the defendant held in relation to the victim. 'Our office remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute those who violate that trust." Caron is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility without bond until her first court appearance, court documents show. 5

Police find multiple hidden cameras in Ocean City restrooms
The Brief Investigators say what started with the discovery of one camera, led to more cameras being found in other restrooms. The invasion of privacy caused many beach-goers to react with shock. OCEAN CITY, N.J. - A disgusting discovery was made in Cape May County where police say small cameras were hidden inside multiple restrooms. The woman who made the discovery was appalled to find the camera. Timeline Ocean City prides itself as one of New Jersey's finest family resort towns, but now visitors are on alert. "My best friend and I and her three-year-old were using the bathroom, getting changed. We're ready to go on the beach and I glanced down and noticed something sticking out from behind the trashcan," explained Fallon Conway, who found a recording device. Puzzled, Conway picked it up and found an undercover pen video camera in the family bathroom at 6th and Boardwalk. She continued, "It was really heavy. It had a blue light on it. I noticed the slide over the lens and you uncover it like you would a webcam. It was directed right toward the toilet and we had been in there for about five minutes before we noticed it." What they're saying Fallon called police who removed the device and then detectives discovered several more devices in other public restrooms along the boardwalk. "I think it's crazy. It's disgusting that people come down here with their families and have to deal with things like that," visitor John Ruggiano reacted. Carrie Pinot commented, "To me, it's an invasion of privacy. It shouldn't be happening." Fallon – concerned that images of her using the bathroom – may already be out there, said, "To know that I am definitely recorded somewhere, potentially, on the dark web – it's really scary." What's next There are surveillance camera outside the public restrooms that may help police identify the person or people who placed the devices inside. In any event everyone should keep their eyes open in a public restroom.

West Wildwood police getting help from neighboring New Jersey departments amid staff shortage
Multiple South Jersey police departments are providing support services to West Wildwood as the town deals with a staffing shortage among its own force. Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said he asked the Wildwood, North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest departments to "provide necessary manpower and resources" to keep police services in West Wildwood running, and that all agreed to help. "Their commitment to public service and regional cooperation is a reflection of the strong law enforcement community we have in Cape May County," Sutherland said in a statement. The temporary measure comes after West Wildwood made significant staffing changes to its police force back in January. Since then, the department became the subject of a review by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. In a report published earlier this month, the NJSACOP said there is "a complete lack of leadership" in the Borough of West Wildwood Police Department, the force's Internal Affairs is "essentially non-existent," training is lacking among officers and high police officer turnover is contributing to the agency's instability. The report made several recommendations about how the borough could move forward. One option would see West Wildwood invest in recruitment and retention to maintain an independent force. Other options include: Entering into a shared service agreement where West Wildwood shares a police chief with another municipality Entering a shared service agreement with another town to supply partial police services at night Disbanding the West Wildwood Police Department and entering into a contract with another jurisdiction The NJSACOP said it recommends disbanding the force altogether. "Our review demonstrates that geographically and financially this would be the best option. We also believe it would provide uninterrupted services to the Borough and its residents," the report said. "NJSACOP also believes it will provide a better service due to officer availability and enhanced patrol and investigative resources." According to the report, the 2020 Census counted approximately 540 residents in West Wildwood, though the population swells to about 5,000 during the summer season. As recently as April 28, 2025, the town's police department had just four full-time officers and one Special Law Enforcement Class II officer on its staff. In January, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office assigned Detective Mark Weeks to temporarily oversee the day-to-day operations of the department prior to the departure of Chief Jacquelyn Ferentz.
