Car Deal of the Day: the stylish Ford Capri is now as cheap as the Explorer
Coupe looks, SUV practicality Good to drive; £2,200 pack for free Just £228 a month It may share little with its original namesake in looks and packaging, but the latest Ford Capri does have one thing in common – and that's aspiration. It sits above its sister car, the Explorers as a more sporting, prestigious model. And yet, right now, you can lease one for the same dough. On the Auto Express Find a Car service, Ford's own dealer group, TrustFord, is offering the Capri for a bonkers £228 a month – that's the cheapest we've ever seen. TrustFord is also offering the Explorer for exactly the same price a month with an identical £2,736 initial payment, so take your choice. Advertisement - Article continues below We'd be tempted to opt for the Capri, though. This deal gets you the entry-level Style with the smaller battery pack, so features such as 19-inch aero alloy wheels, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, a soundbar, LED headlights and intelligent adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, all come as standard. But, get this – TrustFord is also throwing in the Driver Assistance Pack for free, getting you keyless entry with door-handle illumination, a head-up display, a 360-degree parking camera and an electric tailgate, among other features. This would normally cost you £2,200 alone but here's it's zilch. The 52kWh battery pack will give you a claimed 242 miles of range, so around 220 miles in everyday driving is likely. Meanwhile, a 168bhp electric motor powering the rear wheels gives more than enough poke. Handling-wise, the Capri doesn't drive like a two-door sports car, but it is rather good for a large, five-door coupe-SUV, with solid body control and a well controlled ride. The interior is a near carbon-copy of the Explorer's, so it's modern, well laid-out and nicely finished. And despite that sloping roofline, space in the back is very good, while the boot capacity is an impressive 572 litres. 285 mile-range; easy to drive Just £237.50 a month Nearly £100 a month cheaper than EV3 The new EV3 may be the Kia that's (rightly) in the spotlight right now, but don't forget the other electric car that has helped Kia to become a leading EV maker – the Niro EV. It may not have the EV3's new factor, but the Niro EV is still an excellent electric family hatchback – especially if you're new to the world of EV motoring. Add in the fact that the Niro costs around £100 less a month on lease than its glitzier sister, and it's a winner in our book. This 36-month agreement has a 5,000-miles-a-year cap, but this can be revised up to 8,000 for an extra £17.16 a month. This deal gets you a Niro EV in 2 spec. It's the lowest of the two-trim line-up, with the higher being – you guessed it – 3. The range has recently been rationalised and you can thank the EV3's arrival for that, probably. Still, 2 gets you 17-inch alloys, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, sat-nav, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, and a plethora of safety kit. In our testing we've found 250 miles to be the most likely range you can get, which is still pretty good. The interior is well finished and has a design that's very similar to that of its EV6 big brother. It's roomy, too, with plenty of space for a couple of six-footers in the back, while the boot is huge at 475 litres. Fold down the back seats and this rises to nearly 1,400 litres, plus there are plenty of clever storage places such as a handy 'frunk' under the bonnet. Car Deal of the Day: Vauxhall Mokka Electric Ultimate is a well-equipped EV for £196 a month
Inside you'll find a pair of 10-inch displays on the dash, heated front seats in some rather snazzy suede upholstery, and even a massage function for the driver. Also included is a heated steering wheel, built-in sat-nav, a wireless charging pad, keyless entry, a panoramic rear view camera and adaptive cruise control. While this is the Ultimate trim, it's not the ultimate Mokka Electric, because you have to make do with the smaller 50kWh battery. But that's not a problem, as there's still a maximum range of 209 miles – easily enough for most. Plus, thanks to 100kW charging speeds, a zero to 80 per cent top-up takes half an hour. There's adequate power, too, as the Mokka Electric comes with a 154bhp electric motor (replacing the pre-2024 model's 134bhp unit). It's nippy off the line thanks to its immediate torque, and a 0-62mph sprint time of nine seconds is nothing to be sniffed at.
