Free beginner BMX clinic to be held at Cargill Park in Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Cargill Park BMX is hosting a free clinic for new riders and anyone interested in learning more about BMX. More than a game: How sports can support mental health Certified BMX coach and current Zero Moto team member Wells Cornette will host the clinic. 'BMX racing is a sport for everyone! We have pedal bike riders just starting out and guys who raced for Team USA at the World Championships. No one sits the bench! The track is a fun and safe space for everyone. CPBmx is also home to THE BEST track operators, dirt guys, and certified USABMX coaches in the business. Come check us out!' a press release stated. According to the release, the benefits of BMX include: Physical Health: improves heart health, balance, coordination, and strength Mental Health/Life skills: self-confidence, focus, determination, problem-solving, independence Social benefits: BMX is an individual sport, but there is strong camaraderie among track mates both locally and across the state. Cares Krewe celebrates 100 years of golf at Querbes The clinic will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 3:30 p.m. at Cargill Park BMX, 2800 Cargill Dr. in Shreveport. It is free and open to all ages. Guests can also participate in BMX races at the park (weather permitting), with sign-ups beginning at 5 p.m. and starting around 6 p.m. To race, participants must wear Long sleeves and pants, wear a full-face helmet, and have a bicycle. CADDO PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) is hosting a blood drive in partnership with LifeShare Blood Center as part of its 'Give the Spice of Life!' event. Cares Krewe spreads kindness with free coffee and beignets The blood drive will be held on Wednesday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Caddo Correctional Center, 1101 Forum Dr. in Shreveport. Donors must be 16 years or older, and a signed permission form from a parent or guardian must be presented for those under 17. The CPSO is seeking at least 18 blood donors during the drive. More Cares Krewe community surprises Alex Meachum is back at it again with the Cares Krewe, performing random acts of kindness to unsuspecting community members. Alex Meachum went to a local Walmart and offered to pay for people's gas. Upon doing so, she met Rick, a former US Marine. When asked if purchasing his gas brightened his day, he responded, 'Oh, it brightened my day a whole lot.' Alex then got a chance to surprise a lovely lady by purchasing her gas as well, and she said, 'I'm still in shock over that. It wasn't something I was expecting.'
