Nabi unfazed by Kaizer Chiefs' pre-season loss to Vitesse in Dutch tour opener

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi believes the team reached their targets, despite a loss to Vitesse at RKSV Driel Stadion in the Netherlands earlier this week. Photo: BackpagePix Image: Backpagepix Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is not concerned about the results in their training matches on their tour of The Netherlands, as long as they meet their objectives. Chiefs began their training matches in Gelderland, in the east of the country, with a 2-1 defeat to Vitesse at a sold-out RKSV Driel Stadion on Tuesday night. Amakhosi had taken the lead through Reeve Frosler in the first half, but an own goal from Dillan Solomons and a late strike by Andy Visser resulted in the loss. Nabi, however, speaking to Chiefs' official website, said he was unfazed by the result, adding that he was 'happy with what I saw on the pitch'. Video Player is loading. Amakhosi lifted the Nedbank Cup but missed out on the Carling Knockout and finished ninth in the Betway Premiership. As such, they must improve across all fronts next season and aim to challenge for every available trophy — including the CAF Confederation Cup. 'It's all about the objectives we have set out for our pre-season,' said Nabi of what the team hopes to achieve in the Netherlands. 'We trained very hard in the last few days, which was physically tough for the players. So, I am not really worried about the result of this pre-season training match.' Nabi was also impressed by the composition of the Vitesse team, particularly their approach in the second half — a useful reference point for the type of football Chiefs may encounter on the continent. 'Vitesse played very aggressively in the second half,' he said. 'Too aggressively, I felt. 'However, that was also a good lesson for our players — learning how to deal with this kind of aggressive display from an opponent.' Chiefs will certainly need to take such lessons on board as they prepare to juggle domestic and continental commitments in the new season. To that end, Nabi has left nothing to chance, bringing most of his squad to camp, including several youngsters and new arrivals. The notable new signings in camp include Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Flávio Silva and Thabiso Monyane. Siphesihle Ndlovu and Paseka Mako are notable absentees — the former having only recently joined the club, while the latter is sidelined with an injury. Kaizer Chiefs reportedly eye Zajmović after TS Galaxy exit

Kaizer Chiefs could be on the verge of securing a reliable frontman after Bosnian striker Dženan Zajmović confirmed his departure from TS Galaxy. The experienced forward announced his exit through a heartfelt Instagram post, officially ending his time with the Rockets and sparking transfer speculation linking him to Naturena. 'Unfortunately, my chapter at TS Galaxy has come to an end. I would like to thank the chairman, the head coach, the club director, the whole staff and last but not least my AMAZING TEAMMATES. It truly felt like being part of a family,' Zajmović posted, highlighting the emotional bond he formed at the club. Chiefs' ongoing struggle for consistency in front of goal makes Zajmović a tempting option. During the 2024/2025 campaign, he scored 11 goals across all competitions, including seven in the Betway Premiership, three in the Nedbank Cup and one in the Carling Knockout. The 30-year-old also chipped in with two assists in 28 appearances, underlining his contribution beyond just goals. Kaizer Chiefs need a striker who can deliver under pressure and link up well in attack, Zajmović ticks those boxes. His exit comes at a chaotic time for TS Galaxy, who are grappling with their fourth FIFA-imposed transfer ban in under a year. With the club unable to strengthen their squad, Zajmović's departure may present a golden opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs to pounce. With Edson Castillo reportedly on his way out of Naturena, a foreign player slot could soon become available. Clearing the path for the Bosnian hitman's potential arrival. Zajmović isn't just a proven finisher, he brings character and leadership, qualities that would resonate in the Chiefs dressing room. His farewell message speaks volumes about his professionalism and the value he places on team unity. If Kaizer Chiefs want to challenge for silverware next season, securing a striker like Zajmović could prove a masterstroke. Do Kaizer Chiefs need another striker like Zajmović? Kaizer Chiefs writing a bold statement in the Netherlands

Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix Kaizer Chiefs have vowed that they are 'building something phenomenal' for next season, leaving no stone unturned in their pre-season tour of the Netherlands. Chiefs are currently based at the Bilderberg Hotel De Keizerskroon in Apeldoorn, where they kicked off their preparations with a loosening jog around the Het Loo Palace on Friday afternoon, followed by their first training session on Saturday. The team are using their two-week stay in the Netherlands to test their character and refine their skillset against quality opposition. Chiefs will play five training matches in the second week of the camp against Vitesse, FC Utrecht, NEC Nijmegen, PEC Zwolle and FC Twente. Taking to social media on Sunday, the club shared an update on their training sessions after shaking off the jetlag. 'Training has been absolutely fire!' read the caption alongside a clip of the players going through their drills. 'The boys are putting it all on the line – pushing through pre-season with full intensity, full commitment and the right attitude.' Chiefs know they must make the most of their time in Europe. This is where they will lay the foundation for a season in which expectations are sky-high. Having lifted only the Nedbank Cup last season, pressure is mounting on the Soweto giants to push for the other two major trophies on offer – the Betway Premiership and Carling Knockout. The outcomes of the coming season will be defining for all involved – from the boardroom to the coaching staff and the playing squad.

Top Stellies defender completes move to UAE

Stellies confirmed the move on Saturday. Stellenbosch FC have announced that defender Ismaël Touré has completed a permanent transfer to UAE Pro League side Baniyas. Stellies confirmed the move on Saturday. 'Toure leaves Stellenbosch after two successful seasons in which he made 76 appearances across all competitions, helping the club win the Carling Knockout in 2023, reach the MTN8 final in 2024, and progress to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final earlier this year,' read the club statement. 'The Ivorian centre-back famously scored the equalising goal in the aforementioned Knockout final against TS Galaxy as Stellies went on to win their first-ever top-flight trophy at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, cementing his status in the club's folklore. 'Everyone at Stellenbosch FC would like to thank Ismaël for his service to the club and wish him well as he embarks on the next chapter of his career in the United Arab Emirates.' Stellies have moved swiftly to secure Toure's replacement by signing defender Siviwe Nkwali on a long-term contract. The 20-year-old joins Stellies from neighbours Cape Town Spurs, who were relegated to the ABC Motsepe Foundation. 'I'm very happy to be here and grateful to Stellenbosch FC for giving me an opportunity to once again showcase my talents,' Nkwali told Stellies media. 'Stellenbosch has been a top-three club in the past few seasons, and I hope to help the team continue to compete in the league and push for more silverware. 'I will put in 110% for the team and fight for this badge, and I can't wait for the season to get started.'

Kaizer Chiefs up and running in their tour of their Netherlands

NEW KAIZER Chiefs signing Siphesihle Ndlovu. | Kaizer Chiefs Image: KAIZER CHIEFS As Kaizer Chiefs went through their drills at their base, Apeldoorn, in the Netherlands on Friday afternoon, they were snapped in a huddle, praying in the forest. Amakhosi landed at Amsterdam Airport late Friday morning after an 11-hour direct flight from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport. After checking in at Bilderberg Hotel De Keizerskroon, the players enjoyed a loosening up session late afternoon on a grass area just across Het Loo Palace. The Het Loo Palace, where the Dutch royal family used to live, is beautiful with trees this time of the year given that it's summer in the Netherlands. Chiefs want to be a 'force of nature' next season, and challenge for all the trophies up for grabs, including the Betway Premiership. And that's why they've taken their pre-season camp to the Netherlands where they'll face Dutch sides Vitesse, FC Utrecht, NEC Nijmegen, PEC Zwolle and FC Twente. It's the second pre-season camp in a row which Chiefs has held outside the country, having flown out to Turkey last winter. Last season's preparations didn't go according to plan as they only won the Nedbank Cup, missed out on Carling Knockout and finished ninth in the Betway Premiership. Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi and his bosses are hoping for a different change of fortunes next season, and that's why they opted to prepare in the Netherlands. Amakhosi are seemingly leaving no stone unturned in making sure they improve their season and get back to winning ways. preparing and praying around natural environments which have royal lineage to absorb the energy which will make them forces to be reckoned with. Chiefs also brought to the Netherlands some of their new signings, notably Ethan Chislett, Thabiso Monyano, Flavio Silva and Nkanyiso Shinga. Other Chiefs' new signings include Paseka Mako who has allegedly broken his arm and Siphesihle Ndlovu who was also announced by the club on Saturday morning. Amakhosi's striker Tashreeq Morris is happy to be back in the Netherlands, having visited the country many times during his time at Cape Town Spurs' academy. 'I slept well on the plane," Morris told Chiefs' media team. 'The country is beautiful. I am also looking forward to the friendly matches against top Dutch sides.'
