Updated 2025 TBT bracket after Carmen's Crew's opening game win
In case you missed it, the Ohio State basketball alumni team, "Carmen's Crew," won its opening game in The Basketball Tournament to start its defense of last year's championship run. They did it as the No. 1 seed in the Indianapolis Region and will next play the winner of "Locked In Elite" and "Fort Wayne Champs" Monday night at 6 p.m. ET. As we always do since the winner-take-all TBT Tournament came into existence, we'll follow along with "Carmen's Crew" to see if it can take home its third title or not. We already wrote a recap of the action and shared some highlights of its win over GoTime Green Machine, but we thought it well worth it to continue to share an updated 2025 TBT bracket as things progressed with Carmen's Crew still in the mix. So, with that being said, here is an updated 2025 TBT Tournament bracket after games on Sunday so you can follow along. We'll continue to update this bracket with every Carmen's Crew win and bring highlights and recaps as long as the former Ohio State players are in the tournament. Carmen's Crew opens title defense of TBT with win over GoTime Green Machine
The Ohio State alumi basketball team known as "Carmen's Crew," started its defense of its TBT (The Basketball Tournament) championship by winning its first matchup in the tournament over No. 8 seed GoTime Green Machine, 78-67 in Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Sunday. The win came in a different way than years past. Two non-Buckeyes led Carmen's Crew, with Scott Thomas leading the way with 20 points, including three shots from beyond the arc to pace the way. Thomas played for Bowling Green in college. The second-leading scorer was also a player without ties to Ohio State, guard Jamel Morris (from Fairmont State), who poured in 13 points. The game was close in the first half, with the lead going back and forth. GoTime Green led 21-19 after the first quarter. Carmen's Crew found the mark from three-point range in the second quarter, hitting five triples to take a 42-36 lead at halftime. The Ohio State alums took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring GoTime Green 24-17 in the period to take a 66-53 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Camen's Crew couldn't quite put away GoTime Green in the fourth, allowing things to tighten up all the way to 66-61 and then 69-63 when the Elam Ending was activated. From there, Carmen's Crew made fairly quick work of things, winning on a Jamel Morris layup. Only one former Buckeye played in the first game, and it was Keyshawn Woods, who contributed seven points and four rebounds. William Buford, Trevor Thompson, and Kaleb Wesson did not play. We'll see if that continues going forward, most likely not. Carmen's Crew will be back in action on Monday at 6 p.m. ET against the winner of Locked In Elite and Fort Wayne Champs. There aren't nearly as many former Ohio State basketball players taking part on the so-called OSU alumni team known as "Carmen's Crew," in TBT action this year, but there are still a few. The team took home the title last year and is looking to defend that championship this year, and so far, so good. "Carmen's Crew" won vs. GoTeam Green Machine on Sunday by a score of 78-67, and the team did it in a little different fashion, with different stars paving the way in Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Despite the score, it was a pretty close game, aside from a third quarter that made all the difference for Carmen's Crew. Green Bay seeking NCAA waiver that would allow it to play in The Basketball Tournament
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay is seeking NCAA approval to compete in The Basketball Tournament, an event that typically features former college basketball players and offers a $1 million prize to the winning team. ESPN says that Green Bay is seeking an NCAA waiver that would enable it to compete in this event rather than going on an international tour. NCAA rules allow college teams to make an overseas trip to play in exhibition games once every four years. Green Bay athletic director Josh Moon told ESPN that the request was about providing the team more opportunities to play and suggested the prize money could go to a charity if the Phoenix happened to win the single-elimination tournament. According to ESPN, Green Bay made the same request last year but received a denial that arrived too late for the school to file an appeal. Green Bay went 4-28 last year in the inaugural season of Doug Gottlieb's coaching tenure. The Basketball Tournament started in 2014 and often features teams of former college or pro players representing their alma maters. Carmen's Crew, a team made up of Ohio State alumni, won the tournament last year for the second time.
