Hit It: Best Quotes From the STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS Season 3 Premiere

It's a bad day to be the Gorn, y'all. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is back with a double-episode premiere, and folks, Season 3 is already off to a strong start. 'Hegemony, Part II' feels like a movie, deftly bringing the exciting narrative presented in the Season 2 finale to a conclusion. 'Wedding Bell Blues' isn't quite as action-heavy, leaning more into the show's inherent comedy as Rhys Darby guest stars to wreak havoc of the romance persuasion. Below, I've compiled a list of my favorite quotes from the Season 3 premiere. Energize! RELATED: Hit It: Best Quotes From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ' 'Hegemony' Hegemony, Part II L to R: Carol Kane as Pelia and Martin Quinn as Scotty in Season 3, Episode 1 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, 'Hegemony, Part II,' streaming on Paramount+. Photo Credit: Marni Grossman/Paramount+ SCOTTY: 'This again. It's like being back in lecture hall.' PELIA: 'How would you know that? You were never there.' SCOTTY: 'I was there … in the back.' I love Pelia (Carol Kane) and Scotty's (Martin Quinn) dynamic, even what little we'd seen of it in the Season 2 finale. I also love that they're both perpetually, ever so slightly annoyed with each other — the teacher and the student. In Scotty's defense, sitting in the back of the class ensures you're out of the instructor's line of fire (or, rather, questions). Christina Chong as La'an in Season 3, Episode 1 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, 'Hegemony, Part II,' streaming on Paramount+. Photo Credit: Marni Grossman/Paramount+ LA'AN: 'I don't want to save a handful of colonists. I want to save them all. Everyone that's still alive gets home — even if we have to shoot our way out.' My girl La'an (Christina Chong) is always going through it, but she never fails to emerge triumphant like the innate badass she is. I'd have flashbacks to the most traumatic time in my life, too, if giant space iguanas thrust me back into that environment. This quote is proof positive that La'an is the best of Starfleet. She refuses to leave anyone behind. RELATED: Hit It: Best Quotes From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' 'Subspace Rhapsody' Hope Is Key UNA: 'Chris, take some of your own advice. Focus on hope.' Una (Rebecca Romijn) and Pike (Anson Mount) have a sweet friendship. Our Number One doesn't shy away from telling Pike what he needs to hear, even if it's gentle words of wisdom like the above quote. Hope is a powerful weapon, especially when the odds seem stacked against you. M'BENGA: 'Hey. You're here now. Not back there.' M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) knows La'an's history, and here, he lends a helping hand in pulling her out of freeze mode. It's hard to move forward when you feel frozen in time. At face value, this quote might not seem remarkable, but as someone who must constantly remind myself that I don't have to live in survival mode anymore, it resonates profoundly. RELATED: Hit It: Best Quotes From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' 'Those Old Scientists' Wedding Bell Blues LA'AN: 'But we all know what absence does to the heart.' SPOCK: 'The absence of a heart would be quite fatal.' As it turns out, Spock (Ethan Peck) is unfamiliar with the old proverb, 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder.' That doesn't mean he can't learn, though. If La'an can instruct Spock in the art of dance, she can teach him a human idiom or two. L to R: Melanie Scrofano as Batel and Anson Mount as Capt. Pike in Season 3, Episode 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, 'Wedding Bell Blues,' streaming on Paramount+. Photo Credit: Marni Grossman/Paramount+ BATEL: 'I was just wondering what you're gonna do when I move you into my quarters. Where will all your hair products go?' Wynonna Batel (Melanie Scrofano) lives. Huzzah! She spent three months convalescing in Pike's quarters. However, she's now well enough to return to work. So, who's moving in with whom? Will Batel have space for Pike's hair products? I love this cheeky wink to Pike's legendary hair. You know the saying, 'The higher the hair, the closer to the Koala.' RELATED: Hit It: Best Quotes From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' 'Lost in Translation' OBS Language ORTEGAS: 'You realize she's our communications officer, right? She speaks like 900 languages.' BETO: 'Is Obnoxious Big Sister one of them?' Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) deserves to have love in her life. Enter Beto (Mynor Luken), Ortegas' (Melissa Navia) younger brother. However, Ortegas isn't a fan of her bro getting up close and personal with Uhura. Uhura might not speak the language of Obnoxious Big Sister, but being fluent in 900 languages is pretty damn impressive. L to R: Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Mynor Luken as Beto and Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas in Season 3, Episode 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, 'Wedding Bell Blues,' streaming on Paramount+. Photo Credit: Marni Grossman/Paramount+ SPOCK: 'Doctor, if one of our intellects could bestow immunity, I'm confident it would not be yours.' *Battle of the Eyebrow Arches ensues* It's Spock versus Roger Korby (Cillian O'Sullivan) after Trelane (Darby) shifts reality. Korby insists his intelligence shielded him from the illusion's effects, rubbing Spock the wrong way. Are you implying that Spock isn't smart enough to see through the veil, pal? Buddy, ole pal? *eyebrow arching intensifies* RELATED: Read our Star Trek: Strange New Worlds recaps Star Trek: Strange New Worlds drops new episodes every Thursday on Paramount+. 'Flashback' (1990) Blu-Ray Review - Unlikely Buddy Comedy Is Harmless Fun

Dennis Hopper and Kiefer Sutherland make a screen team that spans generations in Flashback. Infamous '60s radical Huey Walker (Hopper) has been caught by the Feds and is headed for prison under the watchful eye of an uptight FBI agent (Sutherland). Easy enough, right? But when Huey turns the tables on his escort, the two are in for a ride that's anything but easy. Carol Kane, Paul Dooley, and Cliff De Young also star in this laugh-packed road trip (emphasis on trip)! For thoughts on Flashback, please check out my thoughts on No Streaming Required: Video Quality Flashback debuted on Blu-Ray in 2023 with an inconsistent digital AVC encoded 1080p transfer derived from an older master that could use a refresh with its various drawbacks. The transfer retains a respectable amount of natural film grain, although there appears to be some amount of processing applied. Subtle signs of print damage show up sporadically, but it is an overall clear viewing experience. This is a pretty soft image for most of the runtime, but some fine detail can be observed in the clothing and backgrounds. Colors are somewhat muted yet stand out in certain moments in terms of saturation. Black levels are irregular with crush and compression artifacts occasionally visible in this presentation. Skin tones are natural and consistent across the ensemble. This feature could get a nice uptick with a fresh master, but it does what you need it to if you don't mind a careless HD presentation. Audio Quality This Blu-Ray presents the film with a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track and a DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio stereo track that are quite a bit better than the video side of things. The witty dialogue comes through clearly in tandem with all competing sounds. The environmental effects, such as rushing river water and train noises, are defined without turning into an auditory mess. The soundtrack presents an immersive experience for audiences. Nearly every tune emerges with a forthright fidelity, but you do hear the slightest bit of strain in some notes. Shout! Studios has done good work overall. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided. Special Features There are no special features provided on this disc. Final Thoughts Flashback is a pretty standard unlikely buddy comedy that plays well enough within the conventions. Kiefer Sutherland seems a bit too stiff for this role, but Dennis Hopper seems to be completely in his element. Carol Kane is a scene-stealer who allows that back half of the film to feel a bit more lively. This is a good candidate for a mindless weekend watch. Shout! Studios has provided a Blu-Ray featuring a dated A/V presentation and zero special features. Fans of the talent involved will want to seek it out, but casual audiences may want to sample before they buy. Flashback is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray. Note: Images presented in this review are not reflective of the image quality of the Blu-Ray. Disclaimer: Shout! Studios has supplied a copy of this set free of charge for review purposes. Readers react to Debenhams coming back to Manchester's streets after four years

Debenhams has returned to Manchester city centre years after its dramatic Market Street closure. In 2021, the flagship store was shut for good after the parent company of the brand collapsed. While the giant former home of the department store is undergoing redevelopment work, bright turquoise signs for Debenhams Group have appeared on nearby Dale Street in the Northern Quarter. The signs have been put up by online fashion company, Boohoo, who bought the brand back in 2021 and turned it into an online retailer. This month the business announced that it will now be rebranded as the Debenhams Group, after a "successful turnaround" of the once thriving department store. Boohoo was founded in Manchester in 2006 by Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane and became one of the city's biggest business success stories thanks to its online 'fast fashion'. READ MORE: The vile creep caught out by a baby monitor READ MORE: Debenhams is back on Manchester's streets after four years, here's why Its other brands include Pretty Little Thing and MAN, run from its base in Dale Street. But the group has struggled in recent years, with sales falling as the company faces tough competition from rivals such as Shein. In recent months the company has also had a row with investor Mike Ashley, owner of Frasers Group, who battled to join its board. With Debenhams still thought of fondly in the hearts of many, many of our readers were quick to take to the comment section to voice their opinion on its return to the city centre and speak about their experiences with the brand since it went under new management and migrated online. Commenting on Facebook, M.E.N reader, Christine Parkes said: "Love Debenhams used to go there a lot when it was on Market Street in Manchester." Karen Hennessy welcomed the news and simply said: "Great." Victoria Grace added: "Not a brand I'm interested in buying from anymore..." Disgruntled customer, Fiona Edwards said: "They have been dreadful to deal with online, months awaiting a refund." Andy Blower, who used to work inside the building on Dale Street said: "That was the old JD Williams offices. I used to work in there years ago." In October last year Boohoo defied Mr Fraser and appointed Dan Finley, who had been leading Debenhams, as its overall group CEO. And this month Mr Finley announced plans to rename the group, with the slogan 'Debenhams is back'. He said: 'The iconic British heritage brand, bought out of administration, has been successfully turned around. Rebuilt for the future and transformed into Britain's leading online department store. 'We've created a thriving community of brand partners with millions of consumers and we are growing rapidly. The most exciting thing is that we are just getting started. We see a clear path to scaling this into a multi billion-pound business with strong profitability. "The successful turnaround of Debenhams is our blueprint for the wider turnaround of the Group. The turnaround of our Youth Brands is underway and will take time. "I have inherited significant challenges. I can see their future potential as they evolve into fashion-led marketplaces and adopt a leaner operating model "We go forward as Debenhams Group. This is a defining moment in our journey, reflective of our new strategy, new leadership and new beginnings. "Debenhams Group is sharply focused on maximising value for all shareholders. It will be at the forefront of global digital retail. It will be a leaner, faster and more technologically advanced business. I am confident our best days are ahead of us and I am excited for our future.' Manchester Evening News has approached Debenhams Group for comment.
