Tennis Star Aryna Sabalenka Reveals Her Other No. 1 Goal Without Hesitation

Tennis Star Aryna Sabalenka Reveals Her Other No. 1 Goal Without Hesitation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aryna Sabalenka, the world's No. 1 women's tennis player, has surprised fans with a bold admission: she wants to be number one in another arena — modeling. Advertisement In a recent interview with GQ, Sabalenka was asked what else she would love to be ranked No. 1 in, besides tennis. Without hesitation, the 27-year-old from Belarus responded, 'Modeling.' She then playfully struck a pose, pretending she was in front of cameras on a fashion shoot. Away from talk of fashion, Sabalenka has been making waves on the tennis courts. She began her 2025 Wimbledon campaign with a strong win over Canada's Carson Branstine, beating her 6-1, 7-5 in a 73-minute match on No. 1 Court. After the match, Sabalenka shared her thoughts on the ongoing debate about women playing best-of-five sets in Grand Slam events, similar to the men's format. Though she is known for her strength, Sabalenka said she wasn't in favor of longer matches. Advertisement 'Probably physically, I'm one of the strongest ones, so maybe it would benefit me. But I think I'm not ready to play five sets,' Sabalenka said, according to AP News. 'I think it's too much on the woman's body. I think we're not ready for this amount of tennis. I think it would increase the amount of injuries. So I think this is not something I would consider.' 'For someone watching, it's amazing to see five hours of great tennis. But I'm not really jealous to stay there for five hours as a player,' she said. Wimbledon 2025: Aryna Sabalenka breezes past Canadian model and delivery agent Carson Branstine; enters second round

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Aryna Sabalenka, the top-seed, claimed an emphatic 6-1, 7-5 win, but in an affair that was all about the Canadian's spirit the score line didn't really count. Branstine's story is unlike any other in tennis, ask the spectators, who gave her a standing ovation. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Branstine, ranked 194, impressed in the qualifying here, where she beat the top-seed Lois Boisson. That's when she started narrating her story. In a world where people are quick to complain about the lack of support and funds from federations and sponsors, the Canadian chose to veer from the straight and narrow to write her own script. The 24-year-old represented the United States before switching to Canada, the birth country of her mother, in 2017. That year, she reached a career-high junior ranking of No.4, after winning the Australian and French Open doubles titles with good friend Bianca Andreescu. After battling injuries for several years, she played collegiate tennis in the United States. Branstine has taught tennis, worked as an Uber Eats delivery agent, besides modelled to help fund her tennis career. 'The modelling industry is not very consistent,' she says. 'When I'm travelling for tennis, I may miss 10-20 jobs.' 'You have to go to castings, and there's the fittings, and it takes a little bit of time sometimes,' she said of the industry. 'A lot of the jobs I've done have been last minute. I'm like, okay, great, I can, squeeze this in somehow. But there's much more to my story than just the modelling.' Branstine said just because she models and lives in Orange, California, people think she has everything. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Canadian, who hails from a working class background, with her parents – father Bruce and mother Carol Freeman – continuing to work well into their 60s. 'The last thing you want to do after they put you through college, is to go back to your parents and ask them for more,' she said, underlining that all the jobs she did on the side was to fund her tennis. In February, just before she left for Cancun in Mexico to play a WTA125, she realised she had just $26 in her account and was in tears. 'During that same time, I was doing Uber Eats, deliveries. I put in my bio, I'm a broke athlete. Please help. And so people gave me extra tips. The American tipping culture is pretty good still,' she said. 'My last Uber Eats delivery was literally the same day I took a flight to Cancun, I landed at 9 am and played my first match at 4pm. That was kind of the kick start to my being here right now. 'When I tell people this, they laugh at me. You can look in my reviews I've delivered with care.' Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 24th seed, retired against French qualifier Valentin Royer when trailing 3-6, 2-6.

(AP pic) LONDON : Top seed Aryna Sabalenka overcame Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine on a sweltering Court 1 to get her quest for a first Wimbledon title up and running with a 6-1, 7-5 win today. With the thermometer soaring above 30°C, the Belarusian turned up the heat early to win the opening five games. But Branstine, who juggles her time between the tennis courts and working as a model, earned loud applause when she got on the scoreboard and although Sabalenka eased to the first set, the second was an intense duel of fierce baseline rallies. Sabalenka, seeded first at Wimbledon for the first time, usually overpowers her opponents with the sheer force of her game, but Branstine had firepower of her own. The Canadian powered down several big aces as she stayed ahead in the second set but Sabalenka sensed her chance at 5-5 and broke serve by forcing her opponent to net a forehand. Sabalenka wrapped up the win with a solid hold.

Canada's Fernandez, Auger-Aliassime advance to second round at Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON — Canada's Leylah Fernandez and Felix Auger-Aliassime are moving on to the second round at Wimbledon. Fernandez cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Great Britain's Hannah Klugman in her first-round match Monday. Advertisement Fernandez, the 29th seed, dominated with 23 winners to 10 for the 16-year-old Klugman, ranked 573rd in the world. The 22-year-old from Laval, Que., also converted five of six break point opportunities to win the match in one hour nine minutes. Fernandez has never advanced past the second round at the All England Club. Montreal's Auger-Aliassime rallied back from two sets to one down to defeat Australia's James Duckworth 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4. Auger-Aliassime, the 25th seed, hit 69 winners compared to 27 for Duckworth, but the Canadian also committed 54 unforced errors. The 24-year-old Auger-Aliassime – a Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2021 – also struck 26 aces and went five for 15 on break point chances in the three-hour 42-minute match. Advertisement Earlier Monday, Carson Branstine saw her Grand Slam debut end with a first-round loss to world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, falling 6-1, 7-5. Branstine, who was born in California but represents Canada through family ties in Toronto, fired seven aces and matched Sabalenka with 17 winners, but the Canadian committed 26 unforced errors and was unable to convert her lone breakpoint chance. Still, Branstine found her rhythm in the second set, and Sabalenka took notice. 'In the first set, she didn't serve great, but in the second, most of her serves were 120mph, which is crazy,' Sabalenka said. "I was lucky to break her in one game. Tough match, tough win." Advertisement The 23-year-old Branstine, ranked 194th in the world, earned her spot through last week's qualifying tournament at the All England Club. Later Monday, Montreal's Gabriel Diallo was scheduled to make his Wimbledon main-draw debut against Germany's Daniel Altmaier. Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., the 27th seed, was set to take on Argentina's Mariano Navone on Tuesday. This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 30, 2025.
