Here We Go's Alison Steadman says 'no more' as she shares sad career news
Alison Steadman shared some heartbreaking news on This Morning as she discussed her lengthy acting career in TV and theatre During her appearance on ITV 's This Morning on Friday (25 July), actress Alison Steadman shared her decision to retire from theatre. She sat down with Dermot O'Leary and Olivia Attwood to discuss her latest projects, including the third series of BBC 's Here We Go, but sadly announced she won't be returning to the stage. Dermot expressed his disappointment to Alison, saying: "This breaks my heart. You don't want to do theatre anymore," to which co-host Olivia chimed in: "Stage fright?" Alison confirmed: "Yeah, really. I've put my shift in and it was my favourite thing. I absolutely loved it, but no more." Over the years, Alison has graced the stage in numerous productions, beginning her career in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie after completing her studies, reports the Mirror. Her theatre credits include Abigail's Party, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Entertaining Mr Sloane and Hotel Paradiso. She even bagged an Olivier Award for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. In other parts of the interview, Alison gave a sneak peek into what fans can expect in the new series of Here We Go, set to premiere on BBC One on Friday (25 July). "We're so excited," she exclaimed, before sharing some updates about her character Sue Jessop. "Well, she's moved in with them, it's what she's always wanted! She's living with them, she's rearranged the kitchen, as mother-in-laws do. She just loves it, she just loves being with all the family." Alison elaborated on the distinctive filming style of Here We Go. The series is shot in a single continuous take, leaving no room for cuts or edits. "It's filmed always in one long take, so there's no cuttings. It's quite tough sometimes. It's just quite tiring, sometimes the scenes can be four, five pages long," Alison shared with Dermot and Olivia. She confessed: "If you're filming it without a break, and you're doing take after take, sometimes you think 'Please let me rest!'" Alison shares the screen with Jim Howick, Katherine Parkinson, Tom Basden, Tori Allen-Martin, Freya Parks, Mica Ricketts, and Jude Morgan-Collie in the popular BBC sitcom. The series, set in the town of Bedford, narrates the unique tale of the quirky and dysfunctional Jessop family, through the lens of teenager Sam (Jude Morgan-Collie), who captures plenty of footage on his handheld camera. Flashbacks to less chaotic times also feature, giving the series a unique selling point.

Kardashian channels Liz Taylor as Kidman watches at Balenciaga
With only three marriages under her belt, Kim Kardashian has five more trips down the aisle before she can truly be compared with movie star Elizabeth Taylor – but on the Paris runway for Balenciaga, she did her best. Kardashian appeared in the final haute couture show for the brand by designer Demna, wearing earrings that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, in an outfit inspired by her character Maggie in the 1958 movie Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. In her second appearance on the haute couture runway, following her 2022 Balenciaga debut, Kardashian wore a clinging, ivory lingerie-inspired slip dress, with an off-white feathered coat falling off her shoulders. Kardashian is a fan of Taylor and purchased three jade and diamond bracelets at a 2011 auction that belonged to the legendary actress. For the Balenciaga show, the earrings were borrowed from jeweller Lorraine Schwartz, who purchased them at auction for $US374,500 ($572,890) in 2011. 'The Golden Age of Hollywood, a perpetual obsession of mine, informs a study of Old Hollywood glamour,' Demna wrote in his notes for the collection. 'A black sequined 'Diva' gown inspired by Marilyn Monroe, a pink 'Debutante' princess dress in the world's lightest technical organza.' Rather than share the runway with Kardashian again, Nicole Kidman, an ambassador for the fashion house founded by Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga in 1937, watched from the front row. Wearing a single-button black blazer and narrow pants with pointed glossy heels, the Australian Oscar-winner looked ready for a high-fashion remake of The Matrix. Kidman was joined in the front row by Naomi Watts and her 16-year-old daughter Kai Schreiber, who modelled at the Celine ready-to-wear show earlier in the week. 'There's something truly magical about couture—it's when fashion becomes pure art,' Watts told US Vogue. 'This year feels especially meaningful with it being Demna's final show, and I was so excited to experience it with my girl. She's really immersed herself in the fashion world now, which makes it all the more special.'

Demna and Balenciaga: A Beautiful Thing Is Over
PARIS — On July 1, 1968, Cristobal Balenciaga locked the doors on his couture house on Avenue Georges V and turned his back on fashion. Not even those closest to him — staff or clients — had an inkling of his decision. Too bad Demna couldn't engineer his departure from Balenciaga for the same date, rather than a week later. That would have been too perfect. But if his decade at the house that Cristobal built has taught him anything, it was that perfection is an impossible dream. As he said after the show, once he let his quest for perfection go, under the guidance of the therapist who transformed his life, everything became effortless. Balenciaga Couture Fall 2025 (Balenciaga) Besides, the whole world has known for months that Demna isn't quitting fashion, he's just moving on. The handwritten note on each seat at Wednesday's show declared that 'fashion lives on the edge of tomorrow, driven not by what we know but the thrill of discovering what comes next.' Hello, Gucci. But that's tomorrow. Today celebrated a transformative decade which scaled heights and plumbed depths. Like the revered Cristobal, Demna is a superb technician, so it was only right that he saw himself out with a handful of ballgowns that were masterpieces of construction. The exaggerated hourglass effect was achieved without boning. The corsetry was more shapewear. Eva Herzigova's draped duchesse satin gown had one seam. Eliza Douglas's sculpted Guipure lace gown didn't even have that. Minimalism at its most exquisite. Balenciaga Couture Fall 2025 (Balenciaga) The airy froth of a pink princess dress was cut from a technical organza that is The World's Lightest Fabric™. Demna indulged his lifelong obsession with Old Hollywood with Naomi's black sequinned 'Diva' dress, inspired by Marilyn Monroe, and Kim Kardashian's splendid simulacrum of Elizabeth Taylor: silk slip dress from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, 'mink' coat of embroidered feathers from Butterfield 8. That's the kind of high concept childhood-dream-coming-true fetishism that makes a moment of fashion magic. Balenciaga Couture Fall 2025 (Balenciaga) The high concept was less engaging with the men's tailoring. Last year, Last year, Demna fell for a documentary about Neapolitan tailoring. He was fascinated by its subtle codes, distinctions and intricacies. When he sees rules, he wants to break them. So he sent a bodybuilder for four fittings with a classic Neapolitan tailor and used the result as a 'one-size-fits-all' proposal for the male body types in his show. It's not the garment that defines the body, it's the body that defines the garment, he said. It's a solid humanist point, and it gelled with the innate generosity of Neapolitan tailoring — deconstructed, no shoulder pads — but even so, his models looked like boys wearing their dads' suits. Same with the boys in their technically exquisite bomber jackets and blousons. Maybe it was the quintessence of Demna's oversize revolution but his men couldn't help but look callow beside his powerhouse women. Balenciaga Couture Fall 2025 (Balenciaga) But maybe it's always been that way for his Balenciaga. Isabelle Huppert was on his catwalk again on Wednesday. Who could ask for anyone better to embody the Balenciaga woman? Well, maybe artist Eliza Douglas, who opened his first show at the house and closed his last, which means she was also the last image in the lookbook he had photographed all over 'his' Paris. She embodies the transformative confrontational beauty Demna chased at Balenciaga. Maybe he never achieved perfection, but he definitely found that. Which bodes exceptionally well for his faith that fashion dresses the future before it has a name. Balenciaga Couture Fall 2025 look 1. (Balenciaga) Balenciaga Couture Fall 2025 look 2.
