Mayor Myeza celebrates his birthday by honouring the elderly
Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality (ILM) Mayor Mduduzi Myeza celebrated his birthday on Tuesday (July 22) with a heartwarming gesture of generosity towards the senior citizens of Estcourt. Hundreds of senior citizens, both men and women from all wards within ILM, gathered at the mayor's homestead in Rensburg, also known as Esigodlweni, to celebrate the special occasion with him. Each and every senior citizen was gifted with a grocery parcel as part of the celebration. He presented the newborns with essential items including nappies, wipes and dishes. The hospital staff were also acknowledged and given gifts in recognition of their dedicated service. Man nabbed for impersonating cop in Shelly Beach
Port Shepstone police arrested a 56-year-old man for impersonating a police officer. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said on July 22 at about 18:10, a police officer who was on his way home from work noticed a silver Mercedes Benz with police registration number plates at a mall in Shelly Beach. 'The vehicle was circulated and the registration number was found to belong to a different vehicle. The suspect was approached, searched and found with a fake police appointment certificate, fake firearm, a traffic police reflector jacket, blue lights and a fake Hawks working permit ' said Netshiunda. The suspect is due to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court tomorrow (Thursday). Conservation organisation helps deliver drinking water to thirsty KZN communities
Communities surrounding Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP), Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife's flagship Big 5 game reserve in KZN, no longer have to share drinking water with their livestock. This after the conservation entity brought relief to seven communities, including Mnyamane, Dikidiki, Finland and Nyongwana, through its water project. Before this initiative, residents were forced to share unsafe, undrinkable water sources with livestock; a situation that worsened during dry seasons when the rivers and other natural water sources would dry up. This transformative project now serves an estimated 64 homesteads, significantly improving health, sanitation and quality of life in the region. 'We would like to extend our deepest gratitude for your unwavering co-operation and the incredible support you have provided to our community. Your efforts have made us feel seen, valued, and treated with the dignity we deserve, like ordinary people living fulfilling lives,' said one community member, Miss SG Sithole. Talking on behalf of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Amos Tembe, who is the park manager of HiP, said, ' We manage the game reserves on behalf of the communities, and are committed to giving back wherever possible to improve their quality of life. 'When the communities surrounding the reserves thrive, human-wildlife conflict naturally decreases.' 'You have lifted an immense burden from our shoulders, one we had long carried without knowing how to overcome it. 'Thanks to you, many in our community are now recognising the profound benefits of being adjacent to HiP. The DTAF Chairperson, Dimpho Bessie said that the aim of the event was to restore dignity, hope and warmth to those who need it the most. 21 arrested for serious crimes in massive West Rand police sweep
Over 500 people and 136 vehicles were recently searched, resulting in 21 arrests during a massive police operation across the West Rand. The operations focused on high-crime areas including Westonaria, Randfontein, Magaliesburg, Khutsong and Carletonville. Offences included contravention of the Immigration Act, drunk driving, possession of suspected drugs, murder and illegal possession of explosives. According to Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane, nearly 400 suspects were arrested during high-density operations and Operation Shanela held from July 18–20 by Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, the police and metro police departments, among others. In the City of Johannesburg, 56 suspects were arrested for charges of possession of drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol, contravention of the immigration act, common robbery and other offences. 'It is notable that more than 163 suspects have been arrested across the province for driving under the influence of alcohol. This is a serious crime and will not be tolerated, as it compromises the safety of other road users.
