‘Out of this world': Fans react to Bregman's return as Red Sox win in walk-off fashion
The Red Sox beat the Tampa Rays Friday night to extend their winning streak to eight games. Cedanne Rafaela hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to help the Sox overcome an early deficit. There was a noticeable energy shift at Fenway Friday night. Coming into the game, the Sox hadn't lost in a week, and the young players are starting to come around at the plate. Advertisement Friday night was also the return of All-Star third basemen Alex Bregman, who had missed nearly seven weeks because of a leg injury. Fans were excited to see him back in the lineup. 'I'm so excited for Bregman to come back now that he's healthy and because I've seen Devers have so many errors over the years,' Sox fan Jones Stone said. 'Out of this world, actually probably better than I expected. I think he's great for the clubhouse as well.' Bregman went one-for-four Friday night with a double. Now, there are questions about what team management will do at the trade deadline. A few weeks ago many people thought the team would 'sell' and look to the future. But after a great week, many fans want the team to add and help the club compete this season. Advertisement 'Kind of scared because the same thing happened last season, they had a streak and after the all-star break weren't great,' Red Sox fan Bryce said. " The Red Sox host the Rays again Saturday afternoon for game three of the series. With another win, the Sox will win the four-game set ahead of the all-star break next week. Red Sox barely avoid Angels sweep with a wall-scraping walk-off HR
The post Red Sox barely avoid Angels sweep with a wall-scraping walk-off HR appeared first on ClutchPoints. Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox, is one of the most unique ballparks in Major League Baseball. Standing opposite of the Green Monster is the Pesky Pole in right field, 302 feet from home plate. Red Sox outfielder Cedanne Rafaela made use of the pole, bending a walk-off home run around it to beat the Los Angeles Angels. The 308ft. home run saved Alex Cora's team from a sweep at the Angels hands. Advertisement In a game that featured small-ball offense throughout the game, Rafaela stepped into the box in the bottom of the ninth inning. All it took was one pitch from Angels reliever Brock Burke for Boston's outfielder to be the hero. With just one swing, he iced the game, scoring himself and Abraham Toro to escape with a win in the series finale. Rafaela was lucky that the Red Sox were at home for Wednesday's game. His walk-off home run would not have gotten out at almost any other ballpark in the league. Fortunately for him and Cora, 308 feet was all he needed to win the game. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Boston. Now, they head to on the road for their first series of the season against the New York Yankees. The most iconic rivalry in Major League Baseball is crucial for both teams for different reasons. Advertisement The Red Sox are currently fourth in the American League East. Alex Bregman's injury has left a hole in Cora's lineup at third base, causing the team to slide. Getting back on track against New York would do wonders for a team looking for more contributions from players like Rafaela. The Yankees, on the other hand, are near the top of the league's standings. New York is in the middle of a series against the Cleveland Guardians, hoping to gain momentum before hosting Boston. Until then, the Red Sox can celebrate Rafaela's walk-off against the Angels. After winning a nail-biter, they prepare for what could be the most important series of their season so far against their chief rivals.
